From 1970 – 1973 Richards was the resident DJ at The Grand Ballroom, Coalville (he was the last DJ to spin at their Sunday Club) where he attracted audiences of over 800. This venue was a very important one as it attracted many of the chart-topping bands of the day including The Foundations, The Tremeloes, Pickettywitch, Sweet, Johnny Johnson and the Bandwagon, Jimmy James and the Vagabonds and Sam and Dave to name just a few (perhaps we should not mention Gary Glitter!).
