Enabling a better Public (Government)-Public (Community) interface for efficient service delivery by the service providers as well as service utilisation by the community, so that the development achieved is sustained by the community with minimum or no dependence on external sources. The geographic coverage is 25 Village Panchayats in Thiruvallur district of TamilNadu State in India. Notable and Recent Community Development Activities: Leading a programme on Water and Food Security(WaFoS) by empowering farmers and so far nearly 1000 farmers are part of the programme implemented through Farmers’ Collectives Assisted 30 individual woman to improve their income and health by rearing milking cows which has turned in to many milk producers societies in the area at present Farmers Resource Team for Farming, recognising the local wisdom and traditional practices in farming Enabling public (government)-public(community) interaction to better the service provision as well as service delivery in different sectors, prominently in water and food, and education Supported more than 300 children from socially and economically deprived families to complete their schooling; more than 75% went for higher education, resulting in many good teachers, Engineers, Paramedical professionals (Occupational Therapy, Nursing) and other service providers (Photography, and electricians, etc). 6 Sustainable Learning Centres and WaSH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Clubs to work with children to inculcate social and environmental consciousness and help them improve their health and learning ability. Enabled Youth and women to establish their enterprises and micro-economic units. KTG Garments which today employs 75 women in three units, Vinayaka studio, Pollachi Coconunts and Sree Krishna Studio where four persons are employed by each, are few among them. Page 3 of 5 Trained 12 Panchayat Councils (Local Self Government) in drinking water management (under Water and Local Governance Programme) Trained 12 Water User Associations (under TamilNadu Farmers Management of Irrigation Systems Act 2000) in Governance issues in Irrigation Water Management Worked with community in 20 village panchayats to mobilise them for ‘Blue-Green Village Movement’ and evolved volunteer groups (Community Change Management Group) in each village to facilitate public service delivery Demonstrations, in Farmers field, of ground water recharge shaft, micro-irrigation systems, System of Rice Intensification, Fodder cultivation, azola cultivation, and use of machineries like paddy transplanter. Promotion of System of Rice Intensification in paddy cultivation (SRI); converted one village as exclusively SRI Paddy cultivation village - From one farmer in one village, now spread to eight villages Training in prudent farming practices including seed selection, seed treatment, soil testing, pest management, veterinary care and management, animal and crop insurance, post harvesting techniques, warehousing facilities and marketing strategies.     University Profile & Fact Sheet University of Kerala 2016 A PROFILE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF KERALA 1. Genesis & Evolution: One of the first 16 Universities in India, the University of Kerala was founded as the University of Travancore in the erstwhile princely state of Travancore (now southern part of Kerala) in 1937. Since then, the University of Kerala has transformed itself in many ways. The earliest origins of the University may be traced back to two institutions of modern learning in Kerala, the University College Thiruvananthapuram and the Trivandrum Observatory1. The University was modeled after the best Universities of the United Kingdom, and even today retains some of these features. The affiliating system of the University, however, evolved to be different from the college system in British Universities. The objective of the University was to effect re-organization of the system of education in the state so as to develop technical, technological education and research in applied science, in addition to promoting Kerala Art and Culture. The Logo of the University depicts a lotus with a conch shell (a symbol of erstwhile state of Travancore) and a traditional book stand with palm leaf manuscript on it, symbolizing scholarship. The motto of the University was drawn from Panchathanthra (a Buddhist work) and reads “Karmani Vyajyathe Prajna” which roughly translates to “Wisdom manifests in action”2 In 1954, the unified state of Kerala came into being. The Kerala University Act was brought into force in 1957 and the University of Travancore was renamed University of Kerala (a name which was considered even in 1937) with jurisdiction all over the state of Kerala.

Agriculture was introduced as an optional subject in the middle school classes in the State in 1922 when an Agricultural Middle School was started at Aluva, Ernakulam District. The popularity and usefulness of this school led to the starting of similar institutions at Kottarakkara and Konni in 1928 and 1931 respectively. Agriculture was later introduced as an optional subject for Intermediate Course in 1953. In 1955, the erstwhile Government of Travancore-Cochin started the Agricultural College and Research Institute at Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram and the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Mannuthy, Thrissur for imparting higher education in agricultural and veterinary sciences, respectively. Mar Thoma Church, part of the great tradition of the Malankara Syrian Church which had been formulated by St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, wielded education during the progressive period of Reformation in Kerala, as a mighty weapon for the liberation of the downtrodden masses from their stigmatized ignorance and backwardness. The establishment of St.Thomas College at Kozhencherry in 1953, as part of the altruistic missionary zeal of the church during Reformation, was the second educational venture under the auspices of Mar Thoma Church. The founding fathers, late Most Rev. Dr. Juhanon Mar Thoma Metropolitan and late Rev. K.T.Thomas Kurumthottickal, envisaged the college as an instrument for the realization of a bold vision that aimed at providing quality education to the people of the remote hilly regions of Eastern Kerala. The last six decades of the momentous historical span of the college has borne witness to the successful fulfilment of the vision of the founding fathers. The college has gone further into newer dimensions, innovations and endeavours which are impactful and relevant to the shaping of the lives of contemporary and future generations of youngsters.
