26.09.2021 Romania - MOTOURISMO -- 3 Route: Approximately 2650 km total distance, daily stages between 240 and 430 km.

Motorcycles: This trip is suitable for all motorcycles. However, it is most comfortable to drive with touring enduros or tourers with plenty of ground clearance and sufficient suspension travel. The motorcycles should be technically perfect. Please consider that with arrival and return journey up to 5.000 km are to be driven. Accordingly, the tyres should be new or as good as new.

Riding skills: This tour is suitable for every rider. Safe control of the motorcycle in hairpin bends and on low quality asphalt is a prerequisite.

Luggage: Pack only the bare essentials. Pay attention to low weight and small volume. The bike is put under a lot of stress on this journey, and the less weight the rider has to balance, the more stable and safe he or she will be on pothole tracks. We recommend a luggage roll or sturdily attached rear bags and a sturdily attached tank bag. Please use a sufficient number of tension belts for fastening.

Road condition/traffic: Mostly asphalt, sometimes coarse, sometimes fine, about 30 % bad road condition. Only at the top of a pass we ride on about 5 km of gravel road, which is quite good and easy to ride on. Except for a few main roads and in the big cities, Romania has little traffic. The same road traffic regulations apply as in Germany including right-hand traffic. You have to watch out for dogs, goats, sheep, donkeys and cattle - or very slow moving carts pulled by animals.

Daily routine: Normally a day of travel begins at 8 o'clock with breakfast. At 9 o'clock everybody should be on the bike. Lunch and breaks are taken regularly. Usually we reach the hotel by 18 o'clock at the latest. If there are exceptions, there is certainly a good reason for them.

Accommodation: In clean hotels and guesthouses typical of the country. Each room has its own bathroom and WC. According to the Romanian category, the houses are 3 star, although the houses do not always meet the Western European standard. Often the rooms are simpler than one would expect from the outside. Not every bathroom has a shower cubicle or shower curtain. However, every accommodation is characterized either by its unique location, history, cuisine or atmosphere - only in two cases we are forced to choose simpler, but cosy and clean hotels, as there is no alternative.

Rations: For breakfast there is typical Romanian, tea or coffee, mostly espresso, white bread, butter, jam, cheese, sausage, egg, tomatoes and cucumbers. Romanian cuisine is not particularly varied. Salads are rather rare, often there are hearty meats (pork, beef or poultry) with potatoes as a side dish. But the soups and stews are very rich and tasty. In the evening a multi-course menu is usually served. So we won't be eating so luxuriously at lunchtime. For drinking, besides water and the usual soft drinks, there are various kinds of tasty beer from Romanian breweries. Various Romanian red and white wines will round off a delicious dinner.

Additional costs: The gasoline in Romania is with about 1.20 Euro per liter a little cheaper than in Germany. In total, one has to calculate on the tour with approximately 150 to 200 euros fuel costs (with 4 litres and/or 6 litres consumption per 100 km). In Slovakia and Hungary, you can easily pay with credit card or Maestro card at petrol stations. In Romania this is not always possible and if so, then only with the PIN of the card. The drinks in restaurants and cafés are relatively cheap: ½ l beer about 1.20 to 1.70 euros, a bottle of red wine about 10 euros. Depending on the drinking pleasure one has to calculate with approximately 150 euros for the tour. On top of this, there is an additional 7 euros per day for lunch (i.e. a total of about 220 euros for drinks and lunch). As it is completely unusual in restaurants and cafés to pay individually, it is advisable to set up a joint cash register for lunch and drinks, which your tour guide can manage for the group if desired. So you actually have nothing to do with money anymore and can concentrate on the journey and the various impressions.

Climate: Romania has a continental climate, in the valleys and plains it is warm to hot in midsummer, in the mountains it is cooler - here it can also rain more often in summer.

Documents: For entry into Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, an identity card or passport that is still valid for 6 months is sufficient, a visa for German citizens is not necessary. A national driving licence is sufficient. Please also remember the green insurance card. Motorcycles are also subject to tolls on the motorways in Austria and Hungary, but not in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Electricity: The voltage is 220 volts. The sockets correspond to those in Germany.

26.09.2021 Romania - MOTOURISMO -- 4 Equipment / protective clothing: The most suitable clothes for Romania are waterproof textile clothing or enduro clothing and a helmet with visor (because of the possible rainfall). As there are large differences in temperature between the lowlands and the mountains (e.g. 35 degrees in Temeshwar, 5 degrees and rain in the Fagaras Mountains), the onion principle with many thin layers, which are put on or taken off as required, is best suited. Waterproof motorcycle gloves and boots should be a matter of course. Please do not forget your bathing suit. Also useful would be: a multitool or pocket knife, sunglasses that fit under the helmet, and a water bottle. On such tours, drinking rucksacks in the style of a camelback have proven to be particularly useful. Please also think about medication for the most common travel diseases. Diarrhoea and cold remedies as well as vitamins can be very helpful on the way.

Money requirements and means of payment: It is best to withdraw the 100 euros for the community cash box at the ATM in Romania and take 120 euros in cash with you. You can divide the money for refuelling fifty fifty into cash from the ATM and by credit or Maestro card at the petrol station. Money can also be exchanged in exchange offices. Apart from money for drinks (approx. 150 Euro), lunch (approx. 70 Euro) and petrol (approx. 150 to 200 Euro, of which approx. 120 to 170 Euro in Romania) you should also have some money for possible tips and souvenirs.

Minimum number of participants: 5 riders. If the minimum number of participants is not reached, we reserve the right to cancel the tour up to 28 days before the tour starts.
