We want Girl Scouts to keep active during the summer and to learn about all the great local places and events that are close to home. Only registered Girl Scouts from the Sandy Hook Region may earn a patch or rocker! (Challenge may be done with troop, with family & friends, or alone with adult supervision Instructions Step 1: Decide Where to Go ❑ Look through our list of things to do. Events/places not in the Sandy Hook Region do not count toward the challenge. ❑ Complete 20 activities between Memorial Day & Labor Day. All numbered items count as 1 activity. More info: http://bit.ly/SHSummerFun18 ❑ Already have the patch? Complete 20 activities this summer to earn an add-on rocker. At least 15 activities must be new. 3RD & 4TH YEAR CHALLENGERS: only 15 activities/10 new are required. All events count as new. Step 2: Take Photos ❑ Take a photo at each location; make sure that you are in it. Selfies are ok. ❑ Or take photos with Flat Juliette. Step 3: Create a Photo Collage ❑ Creating a collage is easy! There are many different apps that you can download to your phone. Or use a free online collage site, such as photo-collage.net or photocollage.com. Step 4: Notify Council ❑ Register for your patch/upload your collage at http://bit.ly/SumFun18 by Sept. 10, 2018. Don’t register until you have completed the challenge. ❑ Post your collage, individual photos or videos on our Facebook page (optional) www.facebook.com/SandyHookGirlScouts EVENT RULES These events can be used toward the 2018 Sandy Hook Summer Fun Challenge: ▪ Summer events sponsored by any town, local girl scout communities or troops, local library, etc. that takes place in the Sandy Hook Region. This is to be construed as the full annual report of the Garden State Preservation Trust for the 2011 Fiscal Year in compliance with P.L. 1999 C.152 section 8C-15. It is also intended to be a comprehensive summary of required financial reporting from FY2000 through FY2011. The core of the public-information mission of the Garden State Preservation Trust has been to document and illustrate achievements in conservation and preservation – with an emphasis on accomplishments at the municipal level. We measure this by acres preserved. But it is also importation to show grants for recreational development, historic site funding and the intact farms that have been protected. The bulk of the Annual Report focuses on all of this information. Of course, the statutory function of this Annual Report concerns GSPT financing, appropriations and agency operations. These are contained in the chapters which follow the Legislative District preservation tables. This is to be construed as the full annual report of the Garden State Preservation Trust for the 2013 Fiscal Year in compliance with P.L. 1999 C.152 section 8C-15. It is also intended to be a comprehensive summary of required financial reporting from FY2000 through FY2013, providing a full accounting of Garden State Preservation Trust activities since July 1999.     Site Name Site Name Address Address Welcome to Monmouth County History The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Historical Commission welcome you to the Twelfth Annual Weekend in Old Monmouth self-guided tour of historic sites. This year, the tour includes more than 50 sites organized into four segments: Bayshore or Purple Tour - sites 1 - 14 Two Rivers or Blue Tour - sites 15 - 26 Seashore or Green Tour - sites 27 - 36 Western or Orange Tour - sites 37 - 50 Experience indicates that some tour followers attempt to visit as many sites as possible while others opt for a small number, often those close to home. Regarding organization, the tour places some widely separated sites in a semblance of order. Conversely, other sites are located close together. Visitors may see the sites in any order, or no order, or reverse the sequence from the proposed starting points. Three of the tours begin in proximity to county borders, while Two Rivers begins in a population center that is readily accessible from the Garden State Parkway. The suggested routes offer logical, easy-to-follow directions, but those familiar with the local landscape or possessing GPS systems may wish to use alternate roads. We suggest making a point to visit Site 48, the Monmouth County Historical Association Museum and Library. The Association has an incomparable collection of Monmouth artifacts, extensive research holdings and features informative changing exhibitions on Monmouth County history. Byers Had things gone differently, this state we’re in might have been called New Netherland, New Sweden, Nova Cesarea, or even Albania. But we ended up as New Jersey, a name that honors the Isle of Jersey in Great Britain … and gives us our famous “Jersey” attitude. This year marks the 350th anniversary of the birth of New Jersey, when the English seized control in 1664. The story of how this little peninsula between the Delaware River and the Atlantic Ocean became New Jersey starts with early European explorers and colonists, and their quest for control over lands that had been inhabited for mil- lennia by Native Americans. The true colonial era began in 1609 with Henry Hudson, who sailed for the Dutch East India Company. Hudson explored the Delaware and Raritan rivers, the Hudson River valley, and the Newark and New York bays. Dutch mapmaker Adriaen Block subsequently surveyed the coast from New England to Delaware, naming it New Neth- erland. Dutch colonists settled throughout New Jersey, Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Hudson Valley. Meanwhile, Swedish settlers migrated to southern New Jersey, what’s now Salem and Gloucester counties. In 1638 the colony of New Sweden was founded, straddling the Delaware River. It was short-lived, eventually taken over by the Dutch.
