Nasz Pan Jezus Chrystus przyszedł, aby pokazać nam Miłość i my odkrywamy naszą rolę jako mężczyźni, którzy dostrzegają potrzeby inne niż poszukiwanie mocy i przywilejów (Łk 22,25). Mężczyźni Świętego Józefa to katolicka sieć mężczyzn. Spotkanie Grupy w naszej parafii odbędzie się w pierwszy czwartek miesiaca, o 7:00 pm. Serdecznie zapraszamy.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

The Reign of God comes about because people commit to reversing their lives completely, to embracing new vision, new values. Many popular television shows exploit an unattractive side of human nature by pitting contestants against one another, even to the point of performing dangerous stunts or devious schemes, to gain money or favor. At the liturgy, we counter that impulse by committing ourselves to live generously. In response to Christ’s total gift, we offer bread and wine as the emblems of our lives, our hopes, our joys and sorrows. The bread and wine carried to the altar contain our lives, and by offering our lives to God, we prepare to receive the gift of God’s own life. We are to become what we receive: the body of Christ. On Sundays, this self‑giving is often accompanied by a collection and procession of gifts for the poor and money for the upkeep of the parish. There are certainly other methods of collecting money, some perhaps more efficient. Yet the act of giving from our abundance, and attending to the needs of the poor, opens us up to participation in the changes the Reign of God requires.

HUMANAE VITAE S ?

50 years ago when the encyclical Humanae Vitae was issued by Pope Paul VI, it caused an explosive reaction in the Church and in the larger world. What did it proclaim? What did Pope Paul VI predict? What have been the results? Is it still relevant today? Was its publication and position the right move to make at this point in history?

Relationship Check In World Marriage Day - February 10

There have been times in our marriage when we felt ourselves drifting apart. Not because of any one catastrophic event, but just because we weren’t working on our relationship. We were just getting by. But in a culture antithetical to marriage, just getting by is not enough. All Catholic couples need to work to cultivate a dynamic, vibrant relationship, strong enough to bear the demands of family life, and weather everything the world will throw at it.

The reality is, we are never done working on our marriage. St. John Paul teaches us, “Love is never something ready made, something merely given to man and woman, it is...a task which they are set. Love should be seen as something which never ‘is’ but is always only ‘becoming’...” This is true whether you have been married for 5 years or 50 years. We can never get to the point with our spouse when we say, “OK, now we finally have learned to love perfectly!” We never get there!

Take some time on to celebrate World Marriage Day by doing a “Relationship Check” with your spouse. Get away from the kids, from work, from the house and ask, “How are we doing?”. Imagine your relationship as a separate entity (a tree is a good image). Step back from it and assess its health together. This isn’t a time to point out faults or establish blame, instead it’s a time to work together towards a noble goal.

You are the primary witness to the sanctity of the sacrament of matrimony. Your marriage is of vital importance not just to your family, but also to the whole Church! Don’t allow yourselves to drift apart, but be intentional about having an exceptional marriage. Get more advice, ideas, and encouragement at our website: www.messyfamilyproject.org. We can change the world, one family at a time.

Before you begin your discussion, start by honoring each other, then go on to other questions. (I love you because…, I feel loved when you…, Thank you for…)

Do we make each other a top priority? • Do you feel I make enough time for you? • When do we have uninterrupted time to talk? • Are there activities we should make more room for? Do we experience generous physical love? • How do you feel most loved by me? • What are your expectations? • What would an ideal romantic evening be for you? Do we provide each other emotional support? • Do you feel safe with me? • Can talk you with me about anything? • Do I help you with challenges in your life? • How can I support you? Do we feel respected and valued when we discuss issues such as finances? • When we talk, do you feel listened to? • Do you think I understand your values? • How can we work together on this? Have we created a “vessel of grace” in our marriage? • In what areas of our life can we be more in union with the Church? • How can we pray better together? • How can I support you in your relationship with Our Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit?

St. John Paul on marriage.... “In this entire world there is not a more perfect, more complete image of God, Unity and Community. There is no other human reality which corresponds more...to that divine mystery.”

2019 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal

Prayfully consider your support of the 2019 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal. The Diocese of Joliet is mailing information about the 2019 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA) to all registered parishioners this month. As you know, the CMAA supports 30 ministries that benefit every parish in the diocese, including ours, and are Signs of Hope to our broth- ers and sisters most in need. Our parish’s goal for the 2019 CMAA is $10,700. Please remember that 70 percent of any amount we raise over goal will be returned to us for our use. This is a great opportunity for our parish! Please review the materials you receive and prayerfully reflect on your gift to this year’s annual appeal.

If you do not receive a mailing from the diocese about the CMAA, please contact the parish office.

Feeling a Bit Uneasy? Do you have an uneasy feeling to do something but don’t know what it is? Do you hear a faint voice nudging you to do something you can’t put your finger on? If that uneasy feeling or persistent voice keeps coming back, it could be the Holy Spirit trying to tell you something. If so, pray and be open to God’s direction. For some of you, it may lead to a job God wants you to do. And for others, it may be a call to become a volunteer phone counselor for The Upper Room Crisis Hotline. We are a Catholic hotline providing counseling and referral assistance to anyone struggling to find his or her way back to God or a more rational life. We help everyone regardless of their faith or background. For that reason, all our phone counselors have gone through extensive professional training to prepare them to handle every sit- uation. Does this sound like you? If so, contact us now for information. Call Sr. Mary Frances Seeley at 815-341-9124, or email [email protected] with questions or to reserve your place in our next training session. Our next training session begins February 19th at 10 a.m-12p.m. You can also check us out at catholichotline.org. Thank you and God Bless!
