Which is one reason heaven envy the ‘land of high passes’. This time we at vajor open ways to top attractions and off beat places to visit in Leh Ladakh wandering on the trails of Gilgit Baltistan King- dom. These places aren’t typical, not a lot of travelers know about it, so you can think we have something exclusive for you. Day 1 Reach Ladakh early morning. After the thrill of landing in Ladakh kicks in, relax and make yourself at home at a beautiful homestay in Sanker. Take a tour of the serene accommodation before an important brief on the safety and emergency procedures. And to the most important part, we will take the whole day off to just rest and acclimatize to the low oxygen levels before engaging in further activities. HIGHLIGHTS: • Homestay, • Acclimatization, • Brief on emergency procedures and measures Ladakh Ceremony Monks Day 2 At a distance of 18km from Leh, is the Phyang village. Witness old traditional ladakhi houses and interact with the locals. Learn how the locals practise sustainability in their daily lives as you assist them in their daily farming activities. Plant a tree each as an ode to give back to nature. Walk with the experts of Himalayan Institute Of Alternatives (HIAL) and hear insightful talks on sustainability and how it holds the place together against mindless tourism. Post that we visit the Phyang monastery, a famous Buddhist insti- tution. Spend time taking a tour of the various holy shrines in the large temple complex that exhibits beautiful wall paintings and artworks dating back to the royal period. We end the day relishing the authentic and heavenly momos and thukpa dishes and stay at a traditional Phyang homestay for the night. At an altitude of over 12,000 ft, it is con- sidered one of the highest Gurudwaras in the world and was built to commemorate Guru Nanak Dev’s visit to Ladakh. And as we reach Leh, get ready to drool as your eyes witness colorful delicacies in the bazaars of the old town. Shop exquisite souvenirs that will stay with you and remind you of your Ladakh foray. For one of the most enlightening uphill journeys, we first visit the ‘The Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation (LAMO)’ for a learning scoop of how the arts and crafts in Ladakh has developed and evolved over a period of time. And after, we go a little above to visit to the imperial beauty of the Leh Palace that housed the formal royal family of Leh. From a height like that, be ready to spot the most breathtaking views of the town below, Stok Kangri and other marvelous mountain ranges. Keep your cameras ready people! Take in Buddhist teachings and the views of the beautiful shrines at the Likir monastery. Warm up for an exciting activity ahead. In the small village in the valley, become part of a clay workshop and create your own work of art and take it home with you. The clay contains Sulphur that lends a green color to the clay when it’s windy outside, a clay that’s otherwise bright red in color. Post this, we spend the evening in luxury ‘Indus River Camps’ by the Indus river. It will be a night under the moon and stars camping by the fire following storytelling and stargazing. HIGHLIGHTS: • Likir Village, • Buddhist teachings, • Clay workshop, • Stay at luxury ‘Indus River Camps’, • Camping by the fire under the night sky Day 5 Wake up excited as we plan to visit one of the most famous Indian marvels - the Pangong Tso Lake. The view of the lake will be a sight you won’t ever forget. Post that, we visit the Mang village on the shores of Pangong lake where the women make beautiful handicrafts which you can bring home as souvenirs. Stay in a homestay with a gorgeous pic- ture-perfect view of the lake and the surround- ing mountains. Then later, we gorge on healthy delicious local cuisine. HIGHLIGHTS: • Pangong Tso Lake • Mang Village • Shop beautiful handicrafts in Mang village • Local cuisine and accommodation at a homestay Day 6 The second last day includes a special curated tour of the colorful bazaars of Leh. Explore the charm of these bazaars and shop exquisite ladakhi jewellery, ornaments, household furnishings, clothing and so much more. And while shopping is a must-do affair in ladakh, we will also meet the artists and traders from around the region explore the intricacies behind their creations. And for the perfect end to the last night of our sojourn together, we have an exclusive dinner planned for you at Syah, ladakh’s farm-to-table restaurant that is a gastronomical experience in itself. The dinner will include a 9-course tasting menu inspired by the geolo- gy and time-honored culture of the place. A hearty breakfast before we bid our goodbyes, write letters to each other as tribe, share our favorite anecdotes and leave the beautiful highland for the airport.
