This Petition coming on for Hearing this day, the Court made the following:- O R D E R The learned counsel for the parties state that the matter has been settled. However, a formal joint memo regarding the settlement is to be filed and the learned counsel seek time. 2. It is unnecessary for the matter be listed before the Court for the purpose of recording the joint memo. The statements of the counsel Shri K.B.Narasimha Swamy and Shri H.N.Muralidhar appearing for the respective parties are recorded. The Joint memo shall be filed in the Registry, in due course. 3. The learned counsel Shri H.N.Muralidhar states that the amount in deposit would be withdrawn and the agreed amount would be paid to the respondents. The petitioner is permitted to do so. 7 4. By way of caution, in the event that the petitioner should resile from this undertaking, the respondents are at liberty to move the Court. The petition stands disposed of, in terms of this order.     Article NIMHANS Journal Near-Death Experiences in South India: A Systematic Survey in Channapatna Volume: 10 Issue: 02 July 1992 Page: 111-118 Satwant Pasricha, - Department of Clinical Psychology, National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences, Bangalore 560 029, India Abstract The study of unusual experiences of persons who survive death (NDE) has attracted the attention of scientists over the past two decades. However, very few reports concerning the prevalence of NDEs are available. So far, only two reports of surveys of such experiences have been published; one from the United States of America and the other from India. In the present article, the author reports the findings of another survey of NDEs and conducted in a region of southern India. A population of 17192 persons was surveyed and 2439 respondents were interviewed for identification of NDE cases. Twenty-six persons were reported to have died and revived, 16 (62%) of these having had NDEs. Thus the prevalence rate of NDEs, was found to be approximately one in thousand persons. Except for one subject all the subjects had NDEs at home. The characteristics of the NDE cases identified during the survey are presented. Similarities and differences in features between subjects of the cases reported from India and the USA are discussed and possible interpretations offered. Key words - NDEs, Survey Some persons after recovering from a close encounter with death from illness or other life-threatening situations, report unusual affective, cognitive and seemingly transcendental experiences. With increasing frequency and intensity of disasters and large number of people coming in their way, the subject needed a more systematic attention and a planned approach. Disaster management Act, 2005 provides mandate for development of comprehensive disaster management plan at national, state and district level. In particular, there is a need to have a comprehensive plan at district level, which is the cutting edge level for implementation of all policy guidelines and strategies. There has also been a significant change in understanding of disaster management from Global to grassroots levels in last few years. Hyogo Framework for Action and later Disaster Management Act, 2005, brought a paradigm shift in disaster management from a reactive relief based approach to a more proactive disaster risk reduction approach. It has many pre-historic sites and most of them are in the river valleys. The pre-historic culture of Karnataka is quite distinct from the pre- historic culture of North India, which may be compared with that existed in Africa. 1 Parts of Karnataka were subject to the rule of the Nandas, Mauryas and the Shatavahanas; Chandragupta Maurya (either Chandragupta I or Sannati Chandragupta Asoka’s grandson) is believed to have visited Sravanabelagola and spent his last years in this place.

Central Ground Water Board has decided to bring out district level ground water information booklets highlighting the ground water scenario, its resource potential, quality aspects, recharge – discharge relationship, etc., for all the districts of the country. As part of this, Central Ground Water Board, South Western Region, Bangalore, is preparing such booklets for all the 27 districts of Karnataka state, of which six of the districts fall under farmers’ distress category. The Bangalore Ruaral district Ground Water Information Booklet has been prepared based on the information available and data collected from various state and central government organisations by several hydro-scientists of Central Ground Water Board with utmost care and dedication. This booklet has been prepared by Shri A. Kannan, Scientist-B under the guidance of Dr. K. Md. Najeeb, Superintending Hydrogeologist, Central Ground Water Board, South Western Region, Bangalore. The figures were prepared by S/Sri. H.P.Jayaprakash, Scientist-C and K.Rajarajan, Assistant Hydrogeologist. The efforts of Report processing section in finalising and bringing out the report in this format are commendable. I take this opportunity to congratulate them for the diligent and careful compilation and observation in the form of this booklet, which will certainly serve as a guiding document for further work and help the planners, administrators, hydrogeologists and engineers to plan the water resources management in a better way in the district.

  • The Channapatna Plates: a New Set of Copperplates of the Western Gaṅgas
    Andrea Schlosser & Pankaj Tandon1 The Channapatna plates: A new set of copperplates of the Western Gaṅgas 1. Introduction Some time around October 2005 a new set of copperplates of the Western Gaṅgas, representing a land grant, was found in Karnataka and one of the authors (Tandon) was able to examine them closely and to photograph them. The exact original ind spot is unknown, but according to the locals the plates were discovered 100 –120 km from Mysore in the direction towards Bangalore in a place they named as “Channarayapatna”. However, Channarayapatna is a place due north from Mysore, and not at all in the direction of Bangalore. On the other hand, there is a place called Channapatna that is precisely in the location that had been indicated. Therefore, we are estimating that the ind spot of the plates is Channapatna (12°39'15.03" N, 77°11'53.12" E, ig. 1, p. 220), and the plates are named after that, i.e. “Channapatna plates”. The plates are now in a private collection. The discovery comprises three of what must have been originally ive plates, which recorded a royal grant. Unfortunately, one of the missing plates must have contained the date, the issuing ruler, and the donation, and so these vital details are lost to us for now. The three existing plates provide merely the bulk of the genealogy and the customary closing verses. Nevertheless, they remain an interesting document as they are in a ine state of preserva­ tion and contain some unusual letter forms and other interesting features.

College of Horticulture, Arabhavi - 591 307 Gokak , Belgaum, Karnataka, INDIA e-mail:[email protected] KEYWORDS ABSTRACT Panama wilt Fourteen different isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense studied in vitro to know there growth and media morphological characteristics on Richard’s medium and Asthana and Hawkers medium.Among fourteen different morphology isolates grown in Richard’s agar, Maddur (Kowdle) and Mysore (Konnur) isolates produced maximum growth of 90.00mm and good sporulation (>75conidia per microscopic field) with pinkish to purple colour colony Nitrogen growth and maximum macro and micro conidial spore size of 33.4x3.8 and 13.1x3.3µm respectively.In Asthana and Hawkers medium Channapatna (Abbur)and Bangalore (Hessaraghatta)isolates showed best growth of 90.00 Received on : and 87.67 mm respectively with good sporulation and isolates produced whitish to purple colour mycelium and maximum macro and micro conidial spore size of 30.3x3.7 and 12.3x3.0µm respectively. Among the different 26.03.2016 nitrogen sources tested in Richard’s medium, ammonium nitrate was better utilized by Bangalore and Mysore Accepted on : isolates, sodium nitrate was better utilized by Channapatna isolate, the mean dry weight of mycelium was 351.77, 356.03 and 435.47 mg respectively.
