hese two die proofs have not seen the light of day in 37 years. In 1973, they appeared in the first Greg Manning auction. This sale was held on the behalf of The Philatelic Foundation. It contained only small die proofs starting with the Louisiana Purchase Exposition issue and ending with the 1945 Navy issue. These proofs had been donated to the PF by Stephen G. Rich sometime in the late 1940s.T Over half of the 263 lots went to dealers (Bob Siegel, Stampazine, Stanley Richmond, Richard Ellis and Scott). Another 14 lots went to agents, Ezra Cole and Lou Robbins, eight lots went to collectors on the floor, and 43 went to the book. These two proofs were purchased by Lou Robbins for an unnamed collector. They were part of a complete set of Presidential issue proofs which wound up selling individually. Both proofs brought the highest prices of any of the Prexie issues, $1,000.00 each. The Scott catalogue has barely moved in all of the years these proofs have been listed. We expect these to sell rather quickly.

The George Walcott Collection of Civil War Patriotic Covers Cataloged and compiled by Robert Laurence, 1934 first edition, 261p, HB with original P/R pamphlet. George Walcott was the consum- mate collector and when it came to Civil War patriotic covers, his col- lection totaled over 3,300 different examples at the time of his death in 1932. In his will George Walcott requested that his good friend Robert Laurence dispose of his collection. The sale was the first of its kind to feature such a large accumulation of patriotic covers with each one photographed. Furthermore it propelled Laurence into the auction busi- ness. After a lengthy series of sales he teamed up with Kellogg Stryker to form the auction house of Laurence and Stryker. This catalog has sold for as much as $125.00 over the years. We are offering it for the special price of just $40.00 plus shipping.
