  • Leach Takes Three Wickets but Australia XI Build Strong Lead Against England Lions
Jack Leach celebrates with Sam Hain and James Bracey Jul 16, 2019 19:36 BST Leach takes three wickets but Australia XI build strong lead against England Lions SCORECARD: https://www.ecb.co.uk/matches/10411 England Lions trail the Australia XI by 353 runs going into the final day at Canterbury after a day of mixed fortunes. The first hour of day three was almost a carbon copy of the same period on day two. This time, though, it was England who lost quick wickets to bring their innings to a close, 130 behind the tourists. Lewis Gregory and Jack Leach went for ducks, while Sam Curran reached 50 and then got out stumped to spinner Jon Holland. And Jamie Porter was the last to fall, lbw to Chris Tremain. Porter delivered with the ball early on though, having Joe Burns caught in the slips by Sam Hain. Marcus Harris and Kurtis Patterson added 73 before Harris gave Somerset spinner Leach his first wicket of the match, chipping the ball up to Dom Sibley. Leach then dismissed Patterson in his next over thanks to a smart catch from Ollie Robinson at slip. Robinson also picked up his first wicket of the match, and first for the Lions, trapping Mitchell Marsh in front for 26. Test captain Tim Paine batted patiently for 38, only to then get a leading edge to Leach, which took an eternity to come down into the bowler’s hands, bringing reward for bowling unchanged for the entire evening session. Matthew Wade, who scored a century in the first innings, retired hurt over the tea interval having taken a blow on the elbow from Lewis Gregory.

  • Sussex CCC Vs. Warwickshire Specsavers County Championship - Division Two the 1St Central County Ground, Hove Tuesday 18Th – Friday 21St September 2018
Sussex CCC vs. Warwickshire Specsavers County Championship - Division Two The 1st Central County Ground, Hove Tuesday 18th – Friday 21st September 2018 Day One Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott made Sussex's bowlers toil and put second division leaders Warwickshire in a strong position on day one of their Specsavers County Championship match at The 1st Central County Ground. Bell scored his fifth Championship hundred against the county and Trott is in sight of his sixth against Sussex in his final away game before retirement. Together they helped Warwickshire reach 308 for 2 at stumps. Bell will resume on 108 and Trott 86 after they shared 206 in 68 overs for the third wicket. A draw would seal an immediate return to the top flight with a game to spare for Warwickshire and Bell and Trott made sure they didn’t waste the advantage of winning the toss and batting first on a slow pitch expected to turn later on. Dom Sibley and Will Rhodes laid solid foundations with a stand of 96 for the first wicket and although both fell just before lunch that proved to be the most productive part of the day for Sussex’s attack who were blunted by a combination of the pitch and Bell and Trott’s enduring excellence. They came together after Sibley and Rhodes had departed in the space of 15 balls. Sibley (44) was rightly furious with himself when he squandered a good start by picking out mid-wicket after coming down the pitch to drive left-arm spinner Danny Briggs - making the 100th appearance of his first-class career - only to get a thick inside edge straight to Michael Burgess at mid-wicket.

14 Established 1961 Sports Sunday, July 26, 2020 Photo of the day IPL cricket to start Sept 19 in UAE NEW DELHI: The star-studded Indian Premier League cricket will start on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates, its chairman told AFP on Friday, adding that players may need to undergo quarantine. Although India’s cricket authorities are still awaiting government approval, Brijesh Patel said the world’s richest cricket tournament will be played for 51 days with the final on November 8. Under current UAE coronavirus rules, all trav- ellers must self-isolate for two weeks after arriving. “Whatever are the UAE rules for tourists will be fol- lowed by everyone,” Patel told AFP. “The IPL will take place between September 19 to November 8. This is confirmed and the rest we will decide in the (IPL) governing council meeting next week.” Top stars ranging from England’s Ben Stokes to Australians Steve Smith and David Warner have been lined up by the eight IPL teams on lucrative contracts. Any quarantine period could clash with domestic seasons. Patel said the Board of Control for Cricket in India will prepare operating procedures to combat the virus threat during the tournament. “It is going to be a full-fledged 51-day IPL. We are in touch with the ECB — Emirates Cricket Board. And we will get clearance from the Indian government soon,” he said. The 13th year of the IPL was meant to have started in March but has been repeatedly post- poned because of the pandemic. Dates were final- ly set after the T20 World Cup, which was sched- uled to start in Australia in October, was post- poned this week.

No 15, July 8th 2020. The Virtual Wisdener The Newsletter of the Wisden Collectors’ Club hope that readers find the two main arcles in this edion of the VW of interest. I was unsure as to whether I or not to take up space with the 1970 Journal but when I started to read through Tony Lewis’s thoughts on the 1970 season it became an easy choice to make. The full journal will feature in the Virtual Wisdener’s to follow but I will admit that one of the main reasons for re-prin1ng it in full was the reminder that although each years’ Wisden can give us a review of the previous year, it can never really detail - nor does it try - the unfolding season. Reading Lewis’s thoughts on the ‘pro’ and ‘an?’ South AfriCan tour fac?ons and despite thinking that I knew that the tour was CanCelled ‘late’ - it was remarkable to learn that the actual tour was CanCelled well into the English season and the replacement ‘Tests’ against a Rest of The World side, were very has?ly arranged. Could suCh a tour be arranged so quiCkly today? August the 1st is s?ll the day for domes?C CriCket to resume, but nothing really has Changed in the past week apart from the Coun?es agreeing to have both the forms of the game played upon the restart. Without boringly going over the ground from the last VW, in a week, they have deCided one thing and now they are going to disCuss the detail.

  • Broad Boosts England's Victory Bid in Second West Indies Test
14 Established 1961 Sports Tuesday, July 21, 2020 Photo of the day Coach Rennie not committing beyond 2023 World Cup SYDNEY: New Wallabies coach Dave Rennie has hint- ed he may not stay after the 2023 World Cup, with the New Zealander suggesting it would be better to have an Australian in charge in the future. The 56-year-old took charge this month after see- ing out his commitments with the Glasgow Warriors. He replaced Michael Cheika who departed following the country’s disappointing 2019 World Cup quarter- final exit. No other Australian coach was available or consid- ered up to the task, with Rennie appointed to lift the Wallabies from their lowly seventh world ranking and help groom a successor. “I’m not certain,” he told The Australian newspaper yesterday when asked if he planned to be around for the 2027 World Cup, which Australia are keen to host. “The ideal scenario is that the next coach is Australian and there needs to be some thought around that. If there is someone ready to go after the (2023) World Cup, that may be in the best interests of Australian rugby. “You can’t think too far ahead in this game,” added Rennie, who is on deal that takes him to the next World Cup. “I’m fully committed to the (2023) World Cup but what happens beyond that ... there has to be an empha- sis around identifying and developing other coaches to coach Australia.” The Wallabies have almost exclusively had Australians in charge, with New Zealander Robbie Deans the last foreigner at the helm, for five years from 2008.
