Maccabi will therefore qualify if they avoid defeat, whereas the Turkish group stage debutants can only leapfrog their hosts into second place with a victory. Previous meetings • Sivasspor's first game against an Israeli club in UEFA competition, on Matchday 2, ended in defeat as Maccabi came from behind to win, goals from Dan Biton (penalty) and Dor Peretz turning the tide after the home side, who had opened the scoring through Olarenwaju Kajode, were reduced to ten men. • That was Maccabi's first victory in seven matches against teams from Turkey (D2 L4). Their only previous such encounters in the UEFA Europa League group stage were defeats against Beşiktaş in 2011/12 (1-5 a, 2-3 h), making their home record against Turkish visitors D1 L2. Form guide Maccabi • Maccabi made up for a disappointingly brief European campaign last season – eliminated on entry in the qualifying phase of both competitions – by retaining their Israeli league title in style to make it 23 championship wins in all. A third appearance in the UEFA Champions League group stage beckoned this term after new coach Giorgos Donis led them through qualifying ties against Riga (2-0 h), Sūduva (3-0 a) and Dinamo Brest (1-0 h), but they met their match in the play-offs, losing both legs to Salzburg (1-2 h, 1-3 a). • The Israeli title holders are making their fifth appearance in the UEFA Europa League group stage. They have only progressed to the knockout phase once before, in 2013/14, and struggled in particular on their most recent appearance, in 2017/18, failing to score in their first five matches before signing off with a consolation 1-0 win at already-qualified Villarreal. • Maccabi have won only four of their 15 home games in the UEFA Europa League proper (D6 L5), though the 1-0 victory against Qarabağ on Matchday 1 ended a three-game sequence without a win or a goal. They drew 1-1 with Villarreal on Matchday 4. Sivasspor • Sivasspor finished fourth in the 2019/20 Turkish Süper Lig to qualify directly for the UEFA Europa League group stage. Led by coach Rıza Çalımbay, they are the ninth different club from Turkey to play in the competition proper. • This is only Sivasspor's third experience of European competition. UEFA Intertoto Cup participants in 2008, where they beat Grbalj and lost to Braga, they qualified for the UEFA Champions League in 2009/10 as Süper Lig runners- up but lost their third qualifying round tie to Anderlecht (0-5 a, 3-1 h) before suffering the same fate in the UEFA Europa League play-offs against Shakhtar Donetsk (0-3 h, 0-2 a). • The Turkish club had lost four successive European away games, the last of them 5-3 at Villarreal on Group I's opening night, before beating Qarabağ 3-2 – albeit on Turkish soil, in Istanbul – on Matchday 4. Links and trivia • Maccabi midfielder Avi Rikan's next appearance in UEFA club competition will be his 50th. • Sivasspor's on-loan Nigerian striker Kayode, a goalscorer on each of the first four matchdays, played in Israel for Maccabi Netanya. He won promotion in his first season, 2013/14, and scored 13 goals in the top flight in his second, three of them against Maccabi Tel-Aviv (one in a 3-1 away defeat, two in a 3-3 home draw). • Ghanaian midfielder Isaac Cofie joined Sivasspor in 2019 from Spanish Segunda División side Sporting Gijón, where he was a team-mate of Maccabi loanee Nick Blackman. • Sivasspor are one of six clubs making their UEFA Europa League debut in 2020/21, the others being CSKA-Sofia (Group A), Granada and Omonoia (E), Leicester City (G) and Royal Antwerp (J). They are the only one of the six whose qualifying fate is yet to be decided going into Matchday 6. 3 Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC - Sivasspor Thursday 10 December 2020 - 21.00CET (22.00 local time) Match press kit Bloomfield, Tel Aviv Team facts Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC Formed: 1906 Nickname: The Yellows UEFA club competition honours • None Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 23 (2020) Israeli Cup: 23 (2015) Ten-year record (UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2019/20: third qualifying round (having transferred from UEFA Champions League second qualifying round) 2018/19: play-offs 2017/18: group stage 2016/17: group stage 2015/16: UEFA Champions League group stage 2014/15: play-offs (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2013/14: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA competition 2011/12: group stage 2010/11: play-offs Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 6-0 twice, most recently v Željezničar 04/08/11, UEFA Europa League third qualifying round second leg • Biggest away win 0-3 three times, most recently v Sūduva 26/08/20, UEFA Champions League second qualifying round • Heaviest home defeat 0-4: Maccabi v Chelsea 24/11/15, UEFA Champions League group stage • Heaviest away defeat 5-1 twice, most recently v Beşiktaş 15/09/11, UEFA Europa League group stage 4-0 three times, most recently v Villarreal 05/11/20, UEFA Europa League group stage UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 6-0 twice, most recently v Željezničar (see above) • Biggest away win 0-3: Tirana v Maccabi 06/07/17, first qualifying round second leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-2: Maccabi v Slavia Praha 23/11/17, group stage • Heaviest away defeat 5-1: Beşiktaş v Maccabi (see above) 4-0 twice, most recently v Villarreal (see above) Sivasspor Formed: 1967 Nickname: Yiğidolar (The Braves) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • None 4 Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC - Sivasspor Thursday 10 December 2020 - 21.00CET (22.00 local time) Match press kit Bloomfield, Tel Aviv Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) None Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2019/20: did not take part in UEFA competition 2018/19: did not take part in UEFA competition 2017/18: did not take part in UEFA competition 2016/17: did not take part in UEFA competition 2015/16: did not take part in UEFA competition 2014/15: did not take part in UEFA competition 2013/14: did not take part in UEFA competition 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA competition 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 3-1: Sivasspor v Anderlecht 04/08/09, UEFA Champions League third qualifying round second leg 2-0: Sivasspor v Qarabağ 05/11/20, UEFA Europa League group stage • Biggest away win 2-3: Qarabağ v Sivasspor 26/11/20, UEFA Europa League group stage • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Sivasspor v Shakhtar Donetsk 20/08/09, UEFA Europa League play-off first leg • Heaviest away defeat 5-0: Anderlecht v Sivasspor 28/07/09, UEFA Champions League third qualifying round first leg UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 2-0: Sivasspor v Qarabağ (see above) • Biggest away win 2-3: Qarabağ v Sivasspor (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-3: Sivasspor v Shakhtar Donetsk (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 5-3: Villarreal v Sivasspor 22/10/20, group stage 2-0: Shakhtar Donetsk v Sivasspor 25/08/09, play-off second leg 5 Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC - Sivasspor Thursday 10 December 2020 - 21.00CET (22.00 local time) Match press kit Bloomfield, Tel Aviv Squad list Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC Current season All-time UCL UEL League UEL UEFA No.
