The town will be enforcing temporary parking restrictions during the RBC Canadian Open week to ensure local traffic and emergency vehicles can move safely through the neighbourhood. New parking information for Glen Abbey Golf Course area residents – July 24–30 Temporary No Parking / Tow Away signs will be strictly enforced between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on roads near the Glen Abbey Golf Course. On-street parking will be limited to three hours outside these times. What if I am having guests or work done during this week? A limited number of permits for temporary on-street parking will be approved for residents in the restricted parking areas between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. These may be available on a first-come first-served basis and subject to approval by Parking Operations. If you require a temporary permit for July 24-30, please visit oakville.ca and complete your RBC Canadian Open temporary parking request form. Alongside the R&A, Wales Golf are able to offer 2 free tickets for the matches to every club. The tickets will be played for in a handicap club medal which will be open to all male and female members, with the winning golfer claiming the prize of the complimentary tickets. Running a Mixed Gender Medal In order to ensure male and female golfers can compete fairly against one another, some minor handicap alterations may be required depending on SSS ratings of your course. The information required is available below from the CONGU Unified Handicapping System Manual (Page 92 & 93, App. O) When to run the Club Medal There is no set date or time frame in which to run your club medal, and it can be tied in to existing club competitions if required provided the medal can be run effectively.     Betsy King Betsy King was the best player in women’s golf in late 1980’s/early 1990’s. From 1985 through 1990, Betsy won a total of 20 LPGA Tour events, more wins than any other golfer in the world, male or female. She played on the LPGA tour for 28 years with 34 career wins total, including six major championships. She played on five Solheim Cups and was the captain of the victorious 2007 Solheim Cup. In 1995 Betsy was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame and inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, Betsy played collegiately at Furman University where she was on the 1976 national championship team. King was low amateur at the 1976 U.S. Women's Open, then joined the LPGA Tour in 1977. Betsy retired from the Tour in 2005 and dedicated her life to helping others. In 2007 Betsy founded Golf Fore AFRICA after a trip to AFRICA where she saw the devastating plight of AIDS orphans and extreme poverty. By enlisting the support of LPGA players and golfers, Betsy and Golf Fore AFRICA have raised over $6 million to build health clinics and bring clean water to villages in Zambia and Rwanda. Golf Fore Africa Golf Fore Africa was founded in 2007 by LPGA Hall of Fame Golfer Betsy King following a 2006 trip with World Vision to Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia. After witnessing the terrible plight of poverty and HIV/AIDS, and its devastating effects on the children of Africa, she came home with a passion to make a difference in these children’s lives and a vision to do so using her gifts and experience in golf.

ABOUT WESTCHESTER COUNTRY CLUB Three-time U.S. Amateur champion Walter J. Travis laid out the two 18-hole golf courses at Westchester Country Club, just 30 miles outside New York City, that opened in 1922. The courses were built by the Philadelphia-based architectural firm of Toomey and Flynn who built the modern course at Shinnecock Hills toward the end of the same decade. The club joined the USGA on Jan. 13, 1922, several months before the courses opened for play that summer. The West Course has hosted many memorable golf events over its history. Beginning with the 1923 U.S. Women’s Amateur, the course went on to host 44 PGA Tour events. The Thunderbird Classic came to Westchester in 1963, with Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus winning two of the first three years.
