The course number will be announced and displayed in the Café by 13h30 and on the port side of the Committee boat. See overleaf for courses. 2. For all starts, the starting line will be between the mast on the Committee boat flying an orange flag and a Dan buoy carrying an orange flag. The starting line is not a gate on subsequent laps. 3. To alert boats that a race will begin soon, the orange starting line flag will be displayed with multiple sound signals at least one minute before a warning signal (numeral board zero) is displayed at 14:00. 4. The starting numeral board on the Committee boat shall display minutes after 14.00, changing with a sound signal every minute until 15:17 or for as long as there are starters in the area. 5. Boats start when the numeral board for their start is displayed. A full list of start times is available in the office. 6. Near the end of the race boats must keep within 50 metres of the centreline of their sailing leg to make sure they receive a finish, especially when beating or sailing downwind. 7. The race will end at 16:05. Finish ranking is the order of boats on the water at that time, the leader being finished from a RIB or other boat at 16:05. 8. Boats must continue sailing until finished with an individual sound signal from a RIB as soon as possible after 16:05. Each sailor is also requested to note the boats next in front and behind. • Portsmouth Number List 2016
Portsmouth Number List 2016 The RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme is provided to enable clubs to allow boats of different classes to race against each other fairly. The RYA actively encourages clubs to adjust handicaps where classes are either under or over performing compared to the number being used. The Portsmouth Yardstick list combines the Portsmouth numbers with class configuration and the total number of races returned to the RYA in the annual return. This additional data has been provided to help clubs achieve the stated aims of the Portsmouth Yardstick system and make adjustments to Portsmouth Numbers where necessary. Clubs using the PN list should be aware that the list is based on the typical performance of each boat across a variety of clubs and locations. Experimental numbers are based on fewer returns and are to be used as a guide for clubs to allocate as a starting number before reviewing and adjusting where necessary. The list of experimental Portsmouth Numbers will be periodically reviewed by the RYA and is based on data received from the PY Online website (www.pys.org.uk). Users of the PY scheme are reminded that all Portsmouth Numbers published by the RYA should be regarded as a guide only. The RYA list is not definitive and clubs should adjust where necessary.
