World Juniors Success - The 2021 World Junior Championship kicked off last Friday night for the U.S., led by Friars Head Coach Nate Leaman and Director of Hockey Opera- tions Theresa Feaster. Team USA fell 4-3 to Russia on Friday night before re- bounding for an 11-0 win over Austria on Saturday. Freshman Brett Berard had a goal and two assists, while sophomore Patrick Moynihan added two assists in the win over Austria on Saturday. On Tuesday, the U.S. defeated the Czech Republic by a score of 7-0. Berard also added an assist for his fourth point of the tournament. The Cata- mounts earned one point in the Hockey East standings last weekend after a loss and tie (SO loss) at home against Northeastern. Alex Esposito and Ray Vitolins lead the way with a goal and an assist each over the first four games. Senior goaltender Tyler Harmon has started all four games with a 3.66 GAA and .892 save percentage. New Head Coach Todd Woodcroft is also remotely serving as an assistant coach for Team Sweden at the World Junior Championship. Series History vs. Vermont (PC trails 27-28-10, .492) Providence has struggled in recent years against the Catamounts, going 2-2-3 over the last seven meetings dating back to 2017. He is only the second defen- seman to receive this honor in the 12-year history of the award. The award is voted on by the nation’s assistant coaches and is named for the former Yale University and U.S. Olympic Team head coach. Perunovich was 11-25-36 through 40 games for the Bulldogs, putting him fourth in NCAA freshman scoring and the only non-forward in the top eight. He is also eighth in scoring among all defensemen nationally. A strong two-way player, Perunovich is a major rea- son that Minnesota Duluth advanced to this year’s NCAA Frozen Four in St. Paul, MN. “We certainly knew he had the offensive ability and I’m not surprised that he is where he is,” said UMD coach Scott Sandelin. “He does surprise me with some of the plays he makes game in and game out. The big thing is defensively he’s been really good. Overall, it’s probably a little more than we expected as far as the kind of year, but I’m not surprised he’s done what he’s done.” “He’s a special player.

The nation's top 24 college hockey players were announced tonight at the NCAA Men's Division I Frozen Four in Boston, Massachusetts. Five schools enjoyed a pair of honorees each: Boston University, Denver, Michigan, Minnesota State and Yale. Noteworthy this year: • Five players had been recognized previously, including Miami University senior forward Austin Czarnik, who has been honored three times (twice on the Second Team and once on the First Team.) • There are 18 players from 11 different U.S. states and six Canadian players hailing from four different provinces. • The sources of the most players: Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota and Ontario, with three each. • 10 of the honorees are seniors. Afternoon Matchup: After suffering a 3-1 loss on Friday night, the San Jose Barracuda look to get back on track as the Tucson Roadrunners make their first ever trip to SAP Center. After winning four-straight games from Dec. 20 to Dec. 28, the Roadrunners have now lost three straight including a 3-2 overtime loss to the Stockton Heat on Friday. Special Group: The San Jose Barracuda killed off both Milwaukee power-play tries on Friday night and still sit atop the AHL on the penalty kill (87.9%). The Barracuda also rank within the top five in the league on the power play. On Wednesday, the Barracuda matched a season high with three power-play tallies and went 1-for-2 on Friday. All-Star Nods: On Thursday the AHL announced that Barracuda Goaltender Troy Grosenick and rookie Forward Danny O’Regan had been named to the 2017 All-Star game, which will take place in Lehigh Valley at the end of the month. Grosenick is having a career campaign in his fourth season as a pro, posting a 9-6-1 record in 20 games played. The Brookfield, WI, native leads the AHL in shutouts (5), is T-14th in wins, fourth in save percentage (.928) and fifth in goals-against average (2.12).

The award is voted on by the nation’s assistant coaches and is named for the former Yale University and U.S. Olympic Team head coach. Farabee was 17-19-36 in 37 games for BU, his season ending prematurely after the Hockey East quarterfinals due to injury. Farabee was selected as the Hockey East Rookie of the Week three times this season and his 21 league points were good for eighth in the conference (tied.) He was named to the 2018- 19 All Hockey East Rookie Team. Drafted #14 in the first round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by Philadelphia, Farabee has already signed with the Flyers and hopes to compete for a position next fall.The runner-up for the 2019 National Rookie of the Year Award was Niagara University forward Ludwig Sten- lund (Skelleftea, Sweden).
