    Class - VIII AGRICULTURE OF ASSAM Agriculture forms the backbone of the economy of Assam. About 65 % of the total working force is engaged in agriculture and allied activities. It is observed that about half of the total income of the state of Assam comes from the agricultural sector. Fig 2.1: Pictures showing agricultural practices in Assam MAIN FEATURES OF AGRICULTURE Assam has a mere 2.4 % of the land area of India, yet supports more than 2.6 % of the population of India. The physical features including soil, rainfall and temperature in Assam in general are suitable for cultivation of paddy crops which occupies 65 % of the total cropped area. The other crops are wheat, pulses and oil seeds. Major cash crops are tea, jute, sugarcane, mesta and horticulture crops. Some of the crops like rice, wheat, oil seeds, tea , fruits etc provide raw material for some local industries such as rice milling, flour milling, oil pressing, tea manufacturing, jute industry and fruit preservation and canning industries.. Thus agriculture provides livelihood to a large population of Assam. AGRICULTURE AND LAND USE For the purpose of land utilization, the areas of Assam are divided under ten headings namely forest, land put to non-agricultural uses, barren and uncultivable land, permanent pastures and other grazing land, cultivable waste land, current fallow, other than current fallow net sown area and area sown more than once. 72 Fig 2.2: Major crops and their distribution The state is delineated into six broad agro-climatic regions namely upper north bank Brahmaputra valley, upper south bank Brahmaputra valley, Central Assam valley, Lower Assam valley, Barak plain and the hilly region.

The objective was to understand the aquifer system down to the depth of 200 meters, decipher the aquifer geometry, its characteristics, quantity, quality and formulate a complete sustainable and effective management plan for ground water development in the study area. A multi disciplinary approach of geology, geophysics, hydrology and chemistry was adopted to achieve the objectives of the study.And also with the help of Agricultural Scientists, a management plan was made. This report elaborates the different aquifer system prevailing in the study area, its characteristics and also provides the different scientific data which will help in proposing plans to achieve drinking water security, irrigation facilities etc through sustainable ground water development. The groundwater management plan was made with an emphasis in providing irrigation facilities through ground water development as agriculture is the main means of livelihood of the people in the district which covers about 60% of the total population.To use the groundwater for irrigation purpose, a cropping plan has been designed for the district by using CROPWAT model developed by FAO.

I had a dream to serve the country. That's why I want to join the Indian Army. When I passed HS, I first applied for recruitment in the Indian Army. 3rd January 2018 I was my first recruitment then I was physical and medical clear then I was very happy then gave us the date of written examination by recruitment agencie. I and one of my brothers, both, had passed, together, we both started preparing for the written examination. When we went to take the exam, my brother had a C-Certificate of NCC, that is why he did not have to give his written examination and I had to give the exam. When the results came, there was no Mara name in that list, but my brother's name was, My brother got a job in the Indian Army. Then I thought I would also join NCC. Then I reported in which college NCC is very good in our district. I got 4th Assam BN NCC at Karimganj in Karimganj College. Then I first joined the college, and to join the NCC, I approached the unit and told them to talk to the college's ANO. Then I saw the NCC enrollment notice in the college notic board and I contacted them and filed the form for joining NCC.He gave me the date of NCC selection 5th August 2018 I was very pleased.

Bahuwa nas, Hogra nas, Haidang Geet, Hunchari Geet, Kulabudi nas, log bihu, Gayan Bayan, Phulkonwar-MoniKonwar geet, Ainam, Lakhimi naam etc. are some of the unique Folk performing art traditions of this tribe. With the tribal behavior and immense attachment with their land, river, sky and above all the universe, they deliver some performances during their working or in the leisure time which are associated to their life, activities, thinking and the universe. Struggle, pleasure, sorrow, tiredness, hunger, and other experiences of their life are reflected in these performances. The Haidang Geet is the unique type of ritualistic folk song which not only give recreational or ritualistic communication but also describe about the creation of the universe, their deities with their social and ritual life. Out of the proposed 10 exploratory drilling wells, 3 exploratory drilling wells fall in Rudrasagar PML area, 3 exploratory drilling wells fall in Lakwa PML area, 1 exploratory drilling well fall in Geleki PML area, 1 exploratory drilling well fall in Namti PML area and 2 exploratory drilling wells in Mekeypo Re-Santak Nazira PML area of Sivasagar district, Assam. The chapter also describes the scope of the study, details of regulatory scoping carried out as per Terms of Reference (TOR) issued by Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), New Delhi. 1.1 Purpose of the Report As per Environmental Impact Assessment Notification dated 14th September, 2006 and 01.12.2009, the proposed project falls under category ‘A’, Schedule 1(b) and requires Environmental Clearance (EC) to be obtained from Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) before the commencement of ground activity. In line with the said notification, TOR application was filed to MOEF&CC. Accordingly, scoping meeting was held in MoEF&CC during 30th November -1st December 2015 for determining the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the preparation of EIA report for the proposed project.
