Message from the President Top Message Message from the President We shall aspire to support the “now” and “future” of the mobility society, and to be a company that is a welcomed presence in society. We have put “mobility-related business” in tires and automotive parts at the core of our business portfolio, and play our role as a key support of the auto industry on a global scale. With pride and determination to fulfill these responsibilities in both word and deed, we are going to change our name to Toyo Tire Corporation in January 2019. We established ourselves in August 1945 as a manufacturer of tires and other rubber products to meet the needs of the times. Over more than 70 years since then, we have constantly made technical innovations and delivered products reflecting social changes and advances to customers around the world. Besides polishing performance and quality, we continue to be particular about producing designs that are brimming with creativity and ingenuity. The generation of differentiated, high-level added value is the company philosophy driving our activities. How can we make effective use of not only our intangible assets in the form of our store of technology but also our resources represented by equipment and locations, and maximize their value? To do so, each and every one of our employees must pool their wisdom and join together in agile action. As I see it, this is our distinctive strength and the source of the meaning in our existence. As many of you already know, the auto industry is now at a critical crossroads of the sort that comes along only once a century. The motorized society we will see 10 or 20 years from now is undoubtedly going to look extremely different from that at present. With our eyes on the coming “mobility society” of the future, we are already striving to develop a diversity of advanced technologies. One example is an airless tire that does not have to be inflated. It has reached the level permitting attachment and operation on actual vehicles. We have also launched development of a suspension module with a start-up firm developing EVs, and created mobility aerodynamics technology enabling highly precise simulation of aerodynamics. This technology can help to further heighten the fuel efficiency of passenger cars and have a positive influence on the continuous driving distance of EVs without a recharge. Then there is our Toyo Silent Technology, which is linked to the development of devices for effectively reducing the cavernous resonance produced by tires. As this indicates, we have been germinating the seeds of new technologies for the future. In the company philosophy, our Mission sets forth the goal of “creating excitement and surprise with our products that exceed customer expectations and enrich society.” This is our commitment to society, as we make it our creed not only to resolve issues in response to needs but also to provide new realizations and joy. I am requesting all of our employees to bear in mind our origins as a manufacturing company while aspiring to make us a company with presence that will be welcomed by society as a whole, and am counting on your continued patronage into the future. (2) March 2018 http://www.toyo-rubber.co.jp/english/ Tire Business Products Introduction The manufacture and sale of tires is the core business of Toyo Tires, accounting for approximately 80% of total sales. We make tire products for passenger vehicles, large vehicles such as SUVs, CUVs and pickup trucks as well as trucks, buses and construction vehicles. Three Toyo Tires Brands The tire business is comprised of three brands: Toyo Tires, Nitto and Silverstone. Brand-specific business strategy propels the development and supply of products tailored to each brand’s target market. These brands are the choice of customers around the world for high performance, quality and distinctive brand character. Toyo Tires is a trusted, technology-focused global tire brand with an extensive product lineup acclaimed for exceptional performance and quality. The TRANPATH minivan tire brand was developed as a “specialized tire” and released in 1995, and has been popular in Japan for 20 years as a product that defines the specialized minivan tire. In 1991 we developed a winter tire that incorporates walnut shells, and it continues to be popular today as a winter tire concept that provides stable driving on slippery winter roads. The NANOENERGY series made its long-anticipated debut in 2012 as the next-generation fuel-efficient tire concept. This tire achieves a premium “AAA” grade based on Japan’s labeling system for rolling resistance performance, while combining “a” and “c” grades for wet grip performance. Since it went on sale in Japan, NANOENERGY has been released globally in Europe, Southeast Asia and elsewhere. In North America, our large-diameter tires for bigger passenger vehicles like SUVs, CUVs and pickup trucks are increasingly popular and highly rated. The OPEN COUNTRY series features an extensive size lineup with superior performance for city and off-road driving proven in rigorous road races, accounting for its popularity in North America as well as the rest of the world. For small trucks, we developed the DELVEX small-truck brand tire, which delivers improved wear performance and maintainability. The ZEROSYS fuel-efficient tire brand is our truck and bus tire. Rather than rely on existing technology, this tire was developed from “zero” into a fully finished tire product that supports both cost reduction and environmental conservation. We also developed the new NANOENERGY M638 as the first NANOENERGY brand product in the truck and bus category, offering a large, fuel-efficient route bus tire. Nitto is our strategic brand that fuses creativity with unique, innovative designs based on imaginative ideas under the motto of creating products desired by car enthusiasts. The brand enjoys niche-market support particularly among car dress-up and tuning fans in North America, where is has deployed large-diameter, high-value-added tires for light trucks and ultra-high-performance tires. Supply With a growing worldwide tire demand, the Toyo Tires Group is building a global production and supply system to serve North America, Japan Silverstone, the famous Malaysian brand, joined the Toyo Tires Group in and Asia with the aim of ensuring a quick supply of products critical to 2010. Fulfilling large delivery quantities to car manufacturers in Malaysia, each regional market. SILVERSTONE enjoys considerable local recognition. We are steadily To ensure consistent, high performance and quality anywhere, our growing this brand around our existing clients as a high dependable tire unique philosophy is to continue to refine our technologies and then brand with a clear Southeast Asia presence for passenger cars. transplant the latest technology into our newly built plants. Our unwavering policy is to deliver to the world the high performance and quality (=Japanese quality) that we create as a Japanese tire maker. • Mid-Term '21 Plan Beginning with Our Forecast for the Company’S Future Operating Environment
TOYO TIRE Corporation New Medium-Term Business Plan “Mid-Term ’21 Plan” (Presentation scripts) Table Greetings everyone. My name is Takashi Shimizu, the President of Toyo Tire Corporation. I am pleased to share with you today our Mid-Term ’21 plan. In the past, we would estimate the likely size of our company at the end of the next mid-term period, and base our plan on that scenario. This time, we began by reaffirming our strengths and the ideal state of our business, and confronting possible changes and challenges unique to us. From there, we discussed what transformation was necessary for the company to reach a higher stage of development. In the limited time available, I will provide you with key highlights of our new mid- term business plan. Page 2 : The TOYO TIRE Philosophy One year ago, COVID-19 began its full-scale spread across the world. Since then, each of us has had to live through this uncharted "life with Covid." And we won’t be returning to that life before the pandemic. We must instead face this irreversible paradigm shift and find a way to maintain and grow our business in a sustainable manner. We do this by reaffirming a future vision for our company. That includes our relationship with different stakeholders such as our employees. In the U.S., we did not suspend our operations. Rather, we were designated an “essential business”, which allowed us to continue to do business. It made us realize the critical role of the tire business there. We included our Corporate Philosophy on the first slide of this presentation because we want the world to know why we exist, and our plan to live up to those words.
