With a 4-0 beating of FC Astana on matchday three, Club Atlético de Madrid went some way to making up for the disappointment of their home defeat by SL Benfica in the previous game. They will look to build on that win in the return in Kazakhstan. • Atlético are level on six Group C points with Benfica; Astana are trailing with just a single point. Match background Astana • Astana, the first ever representatives from Kazakhstan to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage, lost 2-0 at Benfica on matchday one and then drew 2-2 at home with Galatasaray AŞ. • Participation was secured with a 2-1 aggregate victory against APOEL FC in the play-off round. Nemanja Maksimović's dramatic equaliser six minutes from time in Cyprus proved decisive after Baurzhan Dzholchiyev had sealed a 1-0 first-leg success. • In the third qualifying round Stanimir Stoilov's side won 4-3 at home against HJK Helsinki after a goalless away leg. In the previous round they defeated NK Maribor, winning 3-1 at home to overturn a 1-0 away reverse. • Before this season, Astana's only experience of tackling Spanish opponents was a sobering one – losing 3-0 at home and 4-0 away to Villarreal CF in last season's UEFA Europa League play-offs. They have therefore lost all three fixtures against Spanish sides, conceding 11 goals without scoring themselves. Atlético • The 2014 finalists began their sixth group stage campaign with a 2-0 victory at Galatasaray but then succumbed 2-1 at home to Benfica, their first European defeat at the Vicente Calderón since a 2-0 reverse to FC Rubin Kazan in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 in February 2013. • Atlético are taking part in the competition for the third year in a row – the first time they have achieved that feat. The matchday three contest was the first time they have faced Kazakhstan opponents. • They took four points from their other two group away games in 2014/15 and lost their round of 16 away leg 1-0 at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, eventually going through on penalties after the same score at home. They lost 1-0 at Real Madrid, and by the same aggregate score, in the quarter-final second leg. Coach and player links • Antoine Griezmann scored in France's 3-0 win over Kazakhstan in the Astana Arena in a UEFA Under-21 European Championship qualifier on 8 June 2012. Dmitri Shomko, Baurzhan Dzholchiyev, Aleksei Schetkin, Abzal Beysebekov and Yeldos Akhmetov all played for the hosts. • Tiago played in Portugal's 3-0 defeat of Kazakhstan in a UEFA EURO 2008 qualifier in Coimbra on 15 November 2006. Match facts Astana • Patrick Twumasi completes a four-game ban imposed for his red card in the third qualifying round second leg against HJK. Dzholchiyev is a booking shy of a suspension. • Astana have won their last five Kazakh Premier League matches, including a 1-0 success at title rivals FC Kairat Almaty on 25 October. • Stoilov's team are a point clear of Kairat – who they play in the domestic cup final on 22 November – going into the final day of the season on Sunday 8 November. • Beysebekov's goal in the 4-1 triumph against FC Atyrau on 28 October was his first since he struck in a UEFA Europa League qualifier against Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC on 17 July 2014. • Tanat Nuserbayev's effort at home to Atyrau was his tenth goal in the league this term, equalling the career-best tally he set in the 2012 campaign. Atlético • Atletico are five games unbeaten (W3 D2) since their matchday two loss to Benfica. • Tiago scored his first goal in seven months on Friday as Atleti were held 1-1 at RC Deportivo La Coruña, missing out on the chance to temporarily go top of the Liga. • Fernando Torres is on 99 goals for the 2014 runners-up. • Diego Simeone's men have conceded just eight goals in 13 fixtures in all competitions this season.

8 FC Astana - Club Atlético de Madrid Tuesday 3 November 2015 - 16.00CET (21.00 local time) Match press kit Astana Arena, Astana Head coach FC Astana: Stanimir Stoilov Date of birth: 13 February 1967 Nationality: Bulgarian Playing career: FC Haskovo, PFC Levski Sofia (three times), Fenerbahçe SK, PFC CSKA Sofia, SC Campomaiorense, PFC Slavia Sofia Coaching career: PFC Levski Sofia, PFC Litex Lovech, Bulgaria (twice), PFC Botev Plovdiv, FC Astana • A stellar name at Levski, Stoilov had three spells at the club, starting and ending his senior career there and amassing four league titles plus five Bulgarian Cups. • Started out as a midfielder but later moved up front and, towards the end of his career, into defence. Scored three goals in 14 international appearances for Bulgaria, two of them on his debut in September 1992 in a friendly against Turkey, where he had just arrived to play for Fenerbahçe. • Captain and assistant trainer at Levski in his later years, he was appointed head coach in 2004. In four seasons in charge won two league titles, two national cups and became the first man to lead a Bulgarian club into the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. • Stood in as caretaker national team coach in June 2007 following Hristo Stoichkov's resignation. Sacked by Levski in May 2008, he joined Litex and took them to victory in the Bulgarian Cup, having in the meantime also been appointed Bulgaria coach. Left Litex in August 2009 to concentrate solely on the national side but missed out on 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification and resigned in September 2010. • Took over the Botev Plovdiv reins in winter 2012 and led the side into the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round in 2013/14 as well as steering them to the Bulgarian Cup final. He then joined Astana in June 2014 and oversaw the club's maiden Kazakh title later that year, before navigating their route through 2015/16 UEFA Champions League qualifying to seal Kazakhstan's first ever group stage spot. Club Atlético de Madrid: Diego Simeone Date of birth: 28 April 1970 Nationality: Argentinian Playing career: CA Vélez Sarsfield, AC Pisa, Sevilla FC, Club Atlético de Madrid, FC Internazionale Milano, SS Lazio, Club Atlético de Madrid, Racing Club Coaching career: Racing Club, Club Estudiantes de la Plata, CA River Plate, CA San Lorenzo, Calcio Catania, Racing Club, Club Atlético de Madrid • Launched career as a combative midfielder with Vélez Sarsfield and was a full Argentinian international at 18, making debut in a July 1988 friendly against Australia; went on to play in three FIFA World Cups and retired as Argentina's most-capped player (106 appearances, 11 goals). Moved to Italy in 1990 to join Pisa; two years later he left for Sevilla, where he played under Argentina's 1986 World Cup-winning coach Carlos Bilardo and – for one season – alongside Diego Maradona. • Joined Atlético in 1994 and won the Spanish domestic double in his second season, his first major club honours to add to two Copa América titles (1991 and 1993) plus the 1992 FIFA Confederations Cup with Argentina. • Enjoyed further success after returning to Italy, winning the UEFA Cup with Inter, plus a Serie A and Coppa Italia double in his debut campaign with Lazio (1999/2000). After four years in Rome, he returned to Madrid for a second spell with Atlético before ending his playing career in Argentina with Racing Club. • Started coaching career with Racing Club and won Argentinian titles with Estudiantes (2006 Apertura) and River Plate (2008 Clausura); brief spells at San Lorenzo, Italian club Catania and Racing (again) preceded his appointment in December 2011 at Atlético. • Led Atletico to victory in the 2012 UEFA Europa League final against Athletic Club and to a Copa del Rey final triumph over Real Madrid CF in 2013. A year later, Atlético held off FC Barcelona and Madrid to win their first league title since 1996, although they lost to Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final. Simeone won the Supercopa de España at the start of the next season, which ended with Atlético finishing third in the Liga.
