Cale finished the match with a nice 60 break but had a couple of tough 3 earlier matches early on against Paul Thomerson and Joe Minici. Shaun also had a great tournament defeating tournament favourite Ryan Thomerson as well as Hassan Kerde but ran out of steam against the young Tasmanian who will now have to consider his future as taking the illustrious spot on the professional Main Tour. Hassan Kerde also had the high break of the event with another solid 120. Snooker & Billiards NSW (with Theresa Whitten's assistance) have secured NSW Government funding to assist with a new project which includes a snooker ‘Development Camp’ and incorporates a new National Women’s Ranking Event. The project focuses on building skills through coaching, sports psychology, team building, competitive match-play and other activities to help female players improve/hone their abilities. This will be relevant and useful for players of all abilities. We're also hoping to utilise as many female referees as possible, so that we're able to really showcase women's abilities in all facets of our game! Travel subsidies will be available for all players, which will assist with the average cost of flights (or driving) from most major locations around Australia. (accommodation & entry fee will be at players expense) - Carlie Tait, Snooker & Billiards NSW REVENTON SNOOKER is pleased to finally announce the expansion of the HAT TRICK SNOOKER SERIES into NSW in 2020... This announcement could not have been timed any better, just hours after the completion of yet another successful event in Melbourne just last night. Event creator GEORGE SPITERI and BSNSW have worked tirelessly together to incorporate a "trial" event into the already bustling NSW Billiards & snooker calendar. All going well, NSW intends to facilitate all 3 events in the 2021 season. The inaugural event will take place with the support of the BLACKTOWN WORKERS CLUB on the weekend of May 30-31, bringing it into line with the event in Melbourne and will include all of the usual REVENTON INCENTIVES! Details will be refined and made available very soon so stay tuned. NELSON WIN HAT TRICK 1 Cheltenham Club's ROD NELSON has taken out the opening event in the REVENTON HAT TRICK Snooker Series for 2020. Nelson overcame Ban Bain in his morning match and then went on to get over the line over MICHAEL ZHANG in his semi-final encounter. The final however was a much scrappier affair against BEN GORSKI who was hoping to get the Gorski name etched onto the perpetual trophy once again. Rod took an early 2 frame to nil lead but couldn't make the most of the opportunities given to him by Ben, who then started to mount something of a challenge to find himself 2-1 and 3-2 down. But in the end, after some bad shot selection from his opponent, Rod was able to get over the finish line and claim his maiden Hat Trick Title. REVENTON SNOOKER wishes to congratulate Rod on his victory and looks forward to seeing both Rod and Ben and the rest of the field in the next Hat Trick event. Peter Gilchrist – Club Marconi Open Billiards Champion Peter Gilchrist won the 2020 Club Marconi Sydney Open Billiards. Peter defeated Joe Minici In the 2 hours long final with a final score of 811 - 450. Peter also had the highest break of 317 earlier in the tournament which was not that much better than his 316. Well done also to the semi-finalists Michael Pearson and Frank Humphreys. A big thanks to Club Marconi for hosting this fantastic Billiards event early on the 2020 calendar. And well done to everybody who helped, in particular Steve Cowie as Tournament Director and Neville Moore for his quality live streaming. Please Find this Trophy Brien J Bennett Test Match Trophy It is quite often the case that our important trophies of both Snooker and Billiards, seem to disappear from the scene, so maybe all clubs and individuals can have a look in their Club trophy display cabinets or personal trophy collections to find this trophy Way back in the late 1980s, the first Snooker Test Match between our two countries was played in Hamilton New Zealand. In my then position of President of the NZ Billiards and Snooker Association and Chairman of the International Billiards and Snooker Federation, I donated a Cup for this event and future such events. It was presented at that time in Hamilton. This trophy seems to have disappeared and although I have asked many people, but no one seems to know where it has got to. The trophy was a cup. I think it was inscribed: "Brien J Bennett Trophy" It was presented only the one time in Hamilton. To whom, I cannot remember. From memory I believe that it was won by Australia. I should be grateful if you could make further enquiries as to its whereabouts.
