The vineyards are managed by Gabriella and by Sergio and they are supported by the well know oenologist Paolo Caciorgna in the cellar. The altitude of San Paolo district, in the commune of Tufo, where the estate is located, is 500 meters above sea level, the excellent exposure is east/east-west. -

Mastro Greco Campania IGT 2017 W I N E D E S C R I P T I O N Made from 100% Greco grapes, this wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures. A B O U T T H E V I N E Y A R D The estates for the production of the Mastro Greco are located mainly on clay soils with a South-East exposure at 350 m a.s.l. on average. The training system is the espalier with guyot pruning system and the density of plantation of 3,000 vines/ha on average and the yield is of about 8,000 kg/ha (7,140 lbs/acres) and 2.6 kg/vine (5,80 lbs/vine). W I N E P R O D U C T I O N Classic white vinification in stainless tanks at controlled temperature. Refines for at least 1 month in bottle. One group of plant secondary metabolites known as flavonoids contribute to the visual character, taste and health benefits of wine, particularly the classes; anthocyanins, flavonols and tannins. While the initial focus grape flavonoid research was on the development of anthocyanins and their contribution to red wine colour, the accumulation of other flavonoids such as tannins and flavonols has been investigated recently due to their influence on grape and wine quality (Boulton 2001; Brossaud et al. 2001; Downey et al. 2003a; Downey et al. 2003b; Harbertson et al. 2002; McDonald et al. 1998; Price et al. 1995a; Spayd et al. 2002). 1.2 Wine production 1.2.1 Winemaking Winemaking involves the extraction of juice from ripe grapes and fermentation of that juice with a cultured yeast. FIORANELLO ROSSO 2014 Category ROSSO LAZIO IGT (Typical Geographical Indication) Blend Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc Climate The 2014 vintage’s growing season was a difficult one from a viticultural point of view. The frequent and abundant rainfall during the first months of the year, in addition to delaying the vineyard work which had been programmed, gave the vines ample reserves of groundwater in the soil. The vineyards, accordingly, went through a period of lengthy and vigorous growth and development during the spring, thanks as well to mild seasonal temperatures. The grapes, for this reason, were picked several weeks later than usual compared to previous vintage and were able to be harvested in a ripe and healthy state in late September only due to timely and careful systematic vineyard work and a dry month of August. Fermentation and Aging As in every vintage, the grapes were selected in the field during the harvest and then a second time on a sorting belt in the cellars which eliminated both unripe and unhealthy grapes not seen during the picking operations. The must fermented in the property’s conical cement fermenting tanks, and the fermentation took place in temperature-controlled conditions to best preserve aroma and flavor. The 12 to 18 month aging period took place in traditional 420 and 840 gallon (16 and 32 hectoliter) oak casks, and the wine was constantly monitored and regularly tasted to verify its evolution. It was then blended and completed the aging phase in stainless steel tanks until bottled. Alcohol 13° Historical data The Fioranello Rosso is produced at the Fattoria di Fiorano estate located in the Appia Antica Park just outside the city of Rome. -
