NOTICE OF DEATH

It is with regret that the Club has to announce the following deaths:

Terry Sanger, Life Member passed away on Saturday 14 August, aged 79.

Terry was elected a Full Member in 1973, becoming a Life Member in 1994. He first came to prominence on the national racing scene in the 1960s with a Ford Cortina V8 shod with outrageously wide wheels and tyres with which he won the Redex Saloon Car Championship before progressing to the British Saloon Car Championship with first a Ford Falcon and then a Chevrolet Camaro. He also raced in international sports car races, in particular sharing Terry Drury’s Ford GT40, and in Formula 5000. For many years Terry was a director of Research Consultants Ltd and played a notable role in the development of the Marcos 1800 amongst other projects. More recently he returned to racing in historic events with a Healey Silverstone.

Terry’s interest in motor racing was ignited by a visit to an early grand prix at Silverstone just after he had started an engineering apprenticeship with Bristol Aero Engines.

The Club has sent condolences to Terry’s wife Dianne and children, Tim and Jenny. The funeral has already taken place and a memorial service is to be arranged for a later date.

Jimmy Blumer, Life Member passed away on Saturday 24 August, aged 82.

Jimmy started his racing career in 1950 and took part in that year’s Monte Carlo Rally, where he was the youngest driver (18) in the oldest car, a 1938 Morris Ten. From the mid 1950s, Jimmy raced sports cars, including his ex-Moss Cooper Manxtail, Lotus Eleven and his beloved Cooper Monaco across Europe. In addition to his own cars, he also drove for Ecurie Ecosse and the Border Reivers, amongst others.

Jimmy shared the Equipe Endeavour Jaguar MK2 with Mike Parkes to win the 1962 Motor Six Hour Race at . In 1963, Jimmy competed in the British Saloon Car Championship, driving the Alan Andrews Racing Cortina GT. He finished 5th overall. He also finished 2nd in the Marlboro 12 hours. 1964 took Jimmy to Le Mans, where he shared a Sunbeam Tiger with Peter Procter.

The Club has sent condolences to Jimmy’s sons Paul and Guy. Funeral details are not yet known.
