2012 2012 Mission statement The Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment (NCEA) is an independent advisory body of experts which advises government at home and abroad on the quality of environmental assessment and makes its extensive knowledge of environmental assessment available to all. Terminology At present, two types of environmental assessment exist in the Netherlands: • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) provides the information needed to allow full consideration of environmental interests in decisions and projects, likely to have significant environmental impact. The EIA report shows how proposals will affect the environment and whether other alternatives would achieve the goals in a more sustainable way; • Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) focuses on consideration of environmental consequence for plans and programmes in the strategic phase.
