October 2006
OCTOBER 2 0 0 6 http://www.universetoday.com TAMMY PLOTNER WITH JEFF BARBOUR 283 SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1 In 1897, the world’s largest refractor (40”) debuted at the University of Chica- go’s Yerkes Observatory. Also today in 1958, NASA was established by an act of Congress. More? In 1962, the 300-foot radio telescope of the National Ra- dio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) went live at Green Bank, West Virginia. It held place as the world’s second largest radio scope until it collapsed in 1988. Tonight let’s visit with an old lunar favorite. Easily seen in binoculars, the hexagonal walled plain of Albategnius ap- pears near the terminator about one-third the way north of the south limb. Look north of Albategnius for even larger and more ancient Hipparchus giving an almost “figure 8” view in binoculars. Between Hipparchus and Albategnius to the east are mid-sized craters Halley and Hind. Note the curious ALBATEGNIUS AND HIPPARCHUS ON THE relationship between impact crater Klein on Albategnius’ southwestern wall and TERMINATOR CREDIT: ROGER WARNER that of crater Horrocks on the northeastern wall of Hipparchus. Now let’s power up and “crater hop”... Just northwest of Hipparchus’ wall are the beginnings of the Sinus Medii area. Look for the deep imprint of Seeliger - named for a Dutch astronomer. Due north of Hipparchus is Rhaeticus, and here’s where things really get interesting. If the terminator has progressed far enough, you might spot tiny Blagg and Bruce to its west, the rough location of the Surveyor 4 and Surveyor 6 landing area. -

This book can be referenced as follows: Reipurth, B. 2016, http://ifa.hawaii.edu/SP1 i FOREWORD I first learned about George Herbig’s work when I was a teenager. I grew up in Denmark in the 1950s, a time when Europe was healing the wounds after the ravages of the Second World War. Already at the age of 7 I had fallen in love with astronomy, but information was very hard to come by in those days, so I scraped together what I could, mainly relying on the local library. At some point I was introduced to the magazine Sky and Telescope, and soon invested my pocket money in a subscription. Every month I would sit at our dining room table with a dictionary and work my way through the latest issue. In one issue I read about Herbig-Haro objects, and I was completely mesmerized that these objects could be signposts of the formation of stars, and I dreamt about some day being able to contribute to this field of study. -
Refined Chemical Abundances of Π Dra and Hr 7545 With
International Journal of Research in Science and Technology http://www.ijrst.com (IJRST) 2017, Vol. No. 7, Issue No. III, Jul-Sep e-ISSN: 2249-0604, p-ISSN: 2454-180X REFINED CHEMICAL ABUNDANCES OF DRA AND HR 7545 WITH ATLAS12 *Doğuş Özuyar, *Aslı Elmaslı, *Şeyma Çalışkan *Department of Astronomy and Space Sciences, Ankara University, Science Faculty Ankara, Turkey ABSTRACT We present the more refined abundances of elements (C, O, Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Zn, Sr, Y, Zr and Ba) determined using the computationally intensive ATLAS12 atmosphere model for the metallic-line stars Dra and HR 7545. We compare the chemical abundances derived from ATLAS9 model atmosphere with those of derived from ATLAS12. The abundances are in agreement with each other, within their uncertainties. We thus state that ATLAS9 may be used for the abundance analysis of slowly rotating chemically peculiar stars, such as Dra and HR 7545. Keywords: metallic-line stars; Dra; HR 7545; chemical abundance; ATLAS9; ATLAS12) INTRODUCTION One of A-type star sub-groups, called metallic-line A-type (hereafter Am) stars, exhibits generally A-type spectral behavior with some elemental anomalies. These anomalies are typically deficiency of Sc and sometimes Ca, under-abundances in the light elements (C, O, etc.), followed by an increase in iron-peak element (Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, etc.) abundances, and a considerably overabundances in the heavy elements, such as Sr, Y, Zr, and Ba, with respect to the solar values [1]. Another characteristic property of Am stars is their low rotational velocities compared to normal A-type stars (< 120 km s-1, [2]). -

Keywords: Stark broadening; isolated lines; impact approximation 1. Introduction Stark broadening parameters of neutral atom and ion lines are of interest for a number of problems in astrophysical, laboratory, laser produced, fusion or technological plasma investigations. Especially the development of space astronomy has enabled the collection of a huge amount of spectroscopic data of all kinds of celestial objects within various spectral ranges. Consequently, the atomic data for trace elements, which had not been -

I hope everybody has been enjoying this early cool front and the taste of fall that comes with it. More to our interests, I hope everybody has been enjoying the longer evenings thanks to our entering Fall. Soon, those nights will start even earlier as Daylight Savings time finally ends for the year— unfortunately, it may be the last Standard Time for some time. Legislation passed over the summer will mandate Louisiana doing away with Standard time if federal law allows, and a bill making it’s way through the US senate right not aims to do just that: so, if you prefer earlier sunsets, take the time to write your congressmen before it’s too late. -

20 CVn için elde -1 edilen değerler: Te = 6950 K and log g = 2.80 dir. Mikrotürbülans hızı 2.6 km sn olarak hesaplandı. -
