    Annex REPORT FOR 2019 UNDER THE “HEALTH CARE” PRIORITY of the NATIONAL ROMA INTEGRATION STRATEGY OF THE REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA 2012 - 2020 Operational objective: A national monitoring progress report has been prepared for implementation of Measure 1.1.2. “Performing obstetric and gynaecological examinations with mobile offices in settlements with compact Roma population”. During the period 01.07—20.11.2019, a total of 2,261 prophylactic medical examinations were carried out with the four mobile gynaecological offices to uninsured persons of Roma origin and to persons with difficult access to medical facilities, as 951 women were diagnosed with diseases. The implementation of the activity for each Regional Health Inspectorate is in accordance with an order of the Minister of Health to carry out not less than 500 examinations with each mobile gynaecological office. Financial resources of BGN 12,500 were allocated for each mobile unit, totalling BGN 50,000 for the four units. The EU reference laboratory determined the FMD virus strain found as typical of Iran and the Asian part of Turkey. Local Vet Office reacted quickly and professionally, and the outbreak was successfully confined. Only Ukraine and Moldova, which are not major Bulgarian livestock/meat trade partners banned imports from the country. Executive Summary: General Information: FMD Outbreak On January 4, Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Foods reported a case of FMD in Southeastern Bulgaria, village Kosti, near the Turkish border. This FMD case has been the first for the last 14 years (the last outbreak was in October 1996). The country had a “free of FMD without vaccination practice” OIE status. The FMD virus was identified on a wild boar shot on December 29, 2010. According to the CVO, this is the first time when the local vets identify FMD on wild carrier. Local vets think that they discovered the infection in a very early phase. The EU reference laboratory in England determined the FMD virus strain found as typical of Iran and the Asian part of Turkey. According to the Vet Office, the FMD could emerge through migration of wild boars between Turkey and Bulgaria; or it could be introduced with meat or products from hunted wild boars; or through indirect contacts with wild boars.

  • SLIVEN, BULGARIA the Folklore Song and Dance Ensemble
    FOLKLORE SONG AND DANCE ENSEMBLE – SLIVEN, BULGARIA The Folklore Song and Dance Ensemble – Sliven is set up in 1959 as an amateur group. It becomes a professional group in 1977. There are many songs and dances from the folklore wealth of the region of Sliven in its repertoire. But it includes also musical compositions from other folklore regions. There are unique musical compositions in the creative work of the Ensemble: “Kotel working-bee”, “Sliven cadences”, “Thrace suite”, “Wedding melodies”, choral compositions, as well as compositions made on the song and dance wealth of other folklore regions as: “Suite of the Sofia district”, “Suite of the region of the Pirin mountain”, “Suite of the region of Dobrudja”, etc. The Ensemble has almost 5000 performances in Bulgaria and abroad in its 50-year history. It has participated in different programmes in Russia, Ukraine, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, Germany, Hungary, Czechoslovakia (Former), Romania, France, Spain, Yugoslavia (Former), Turkey, Greece, Moldova, Tunisia, Jordan. Audio and video recordings of the Ensemble could be seen and heard on the Bulgarian National Television, on the Bulgarian National Radio and on other media. With its repertoire the Ensemble of Sliven could represent successfully the Bulgarian national folklore in the country and abroad. Over 50 dance performances and suites, 30 orchestra compositions and 100 folklore songs from the Bulgarian folklore regions are included in different performances with continuation of 15 minutes to 2 hours. The Folklore Song and Dance Ensemble – Sliven includes a director, a choreographer, 12 members of the orchestra, 10 members of the chorus and 18 dancers.

I'm not exception to this rule and I've never made a trip visit through whole Bulgaria even though I live here most of the time for the last 34 years of my life. Just before Christmas, I was in Pomorie Monastery for a 4 days spiritual and physical rest and it happened that one of the Monks Father Sergij with his novice monk Damian had to travel to a village near Yambol for an unexpected funeral of the Godfather of Damian. Since they were about to travel to Jambol (Yambol) and there was 2 places in the car, they agreed to take me and my wife for a short few hours trip to Yambol. And that's how I got the great chance to visit Yambol, Bulgaria for a first time in life. Faunistic information on 89 species is reported: 77 species from Bulgaria and 37 species from Romania (25 species from both countries). Coniopteryx (Xeroconiopteryx) atlasensis, Megalomus tineoides, Cunctochrysa cosmia and Neuroleon assimilis are new species for the fauna of Bulgaria. These first records shift the range borders of three species with 190 to 700 km northwards. Easternmost localities of Phaeostigma (Phaeostigma) pilicollis and Nothochrysa capitata and northernmost locality of Neuroleon assimilis are registered. The new localities outline the borders of the ranges of 20 species. Very rare species are Phaeostigma (Pontoraphidia) rhodopicum (Balkan endemic species), Libelloides lacteus (a single population in Romania), Coniopteryx (Metaconiopteryx) lentiae (in Romania), Coniopteryx (Holoconiopteryx) haematica and Sagittalata perla (both in Bulgaria), and Nedroledon anatolicus (in both countries).     City Profile Sliven City Profile Sliven Introduction The municipality of Sliven is located 300 km east of Bulgaria's capital of Sofia, 100 km from Bourgas, the country's largest commercial port, 130 km from the border with Greece and 130 km from the border with Turkey. It has an area of 1,366 km2 and includes 45 villages. With 112,103 inhabitants, it is the eighth largest city in the country. Manufacturing and construction occupy a dominant position in the economic structure. The industrial and tertiary sector is focused on the production and distribution of power, heat and machinery as well as on financial and insurance activities. The average annual unemployment rate is 11.69%. One of its activities for reducing CO2 emissions (by 10% by 2020 compared to 2005 levels) is the application of energy efficiency measures in municipal buildings. Key examples of these measures include reducing the costs for street lighting in urban areas and renovating existing housing stock. Sliven has not yet signed the Covenant of Mayors, the topic is still under discussion in the City Council. However, there are plans to submit the Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) in 2013 if a positive political decision is made. The Municipal Infrastructure Directorate is responsible for energy and climate policies in Sliven. Energy-Efficient Buildings and Districts Energy-saving measures in Sliven concern mainly the hydro and thermal insulation of roofs, insulation and cladding with mineral plaster on external walls and replacement of old wooden windows with new more energy efficient ones (PVC joinery). Other measures involve replacing lighting fixtures and building ventilation systems to maintain indoor temperature and humidity levels in buildings.

BACKGROUND Child poverty is one of the most pressing concerns in today’s world and a recognized impediment to sustainable economic and social development. A wealth of evidence proves the close relationship between child poverty and a long list of individual and social risks. Evidence from studies that examined the effect of lack of money (as distinct from parental education, attitudes or behaviour) has shown that children in lower income families have worse cognitive, behavioural and health outcomes in part because they are poorer, and not just because low income is correlated with other household and parental characteristics. Lack of financial resources – directly and through related effects on maternal mental health, parenting and the home environment – results in lower cognitive development and school achievement, and problematic social-behavioural development. These effects are stronger when children experience long-term poverty, and these harmful consequences of child poverty persist in the long term not only for affected individuals, but also for societies, economies and future generations. Globally, children are more likely to be living in poverty than adults, and a child living in poverty is also more likely to grow into an adult living in poverty. Bulgaria is one of the two countries in the EU with highest shares of children who suffer from child deprivation (67.7%) and income poverty (27.5%).
