WELCOME Dear Exhibitors, It is with great pleasure that we welcome spectators and participants to the 2018 Germantown Charity Horse Show. For seventy years, the Horse Show has welcomed exhibitors from all over the United States to compete and exhibit the magnificent athleticism of horse and rider. As one of the largest all breed horse shows in the United States, we see a huge variety of breeds in our show rings, with the newest addition of the beautiful Gypsy Vanners, the feathered horses, who brought a new level of excitement to the main arena, and this year promises to be as thrilling as ever. Dating to the Horse Show’s beginning in 1947, families and neighbors have met at the show to spend a fun afternoon or evening together cheering on their favorite horses and riders. It is the families that keep this show going. We are proud to boast third- and even fourth-generation competitors, who have made it a family tradition to come to Germantown to compete every year. Many of today’s Horse Show Association Members became involved through their parents’ or grandparents’ participation. Others become involved after their children become avid horse enthusiasts and there are those who are members of the various charities that the Germantown Charity Horse Show supports. Our area is known for hospitality and this show is no exception. So many of our exhibitors tell us that this makes the GCHS the highlight of their show year. As always, the families of spectators, exhibitors, vendors, and our committee come together each year to make Germantown Charity Horse Show such a fun and exciting week for all—and for a good cause. We are proud to continue to support the Memphis Exchange Club, a remarkable organization focused on family as well. The Exchange Club provides education, therapy, rehabilitation, and safety in the present, and they serve families of the future by breaking the cycle of abuse. Again, welcome to the 70th annual Germantown Charity Horse Show! Your attendance and support is deeply appreciated and we wish everyone a fun and safe week. Let’s all sit back, relax and enjoy the show! Sincerely, Bill Dudley – GCHS President 1 NEW ADDITIONS We look forward to welcoming you to the 70th Annual Germantown Charity Horse Show! Based on suggestions we received after last year’s show, we have made several changes for our 2018 event. • We’ve added two new Walking Horse Championships, each with $2,000 in prize money thanks to Nathan Lubin who sponsored them in memory of his wife, Marilyn. The Open Trail Pleasure and Open Country Pleasure Championships will be on Saturday night. • The prize money in the Paso Fino division has been increased! We’re putting $150 in each qualifying class and making all of the championships (amateur and open) $1,500 classes. • A “Gamblers Choice” class has been added for our carriage enthusiasts and will be right after the Hunter/Jumper Gamblers Choice on Thursday night. • We’re adding more speed and excitement with the addition of two new Speed Racking classes - Youth and 3-4 Year Old. • Due to the popularity of our Gypsy Vanner Liberty class, we’re adding a qualifier on Tuesday night. The top 5 will return for a $2,000 championship on Friday night. • In honor of our 70th Anniversary we’ve added several “Throwback” classes that everyone can participate in! We’ll have Ride-a-Buck, a Sweet Tea Challenge, Family Class, Stick Horse Steeplechase, and Adult Costume Class. 2 HELPFUL CONTACTS SHOW MANAGER – Mark Farrar, 615-346-0290 (work), 615-604-4616 (cell) [email protected] BOX SEATS – Kay Ross, [email protected] Boxes are $260 each and includes a copy of the official show program.
