Step 1: eAudiobooks for Installing eAudiobook Software Windows/Mac & (iPod, SanDisc, other MP3 players, and Windows or Mac computers) MP3 players In order to download audiobooks, videos, or music, you will need to install OverDrive on your computer. You will only need to do this once. OR you have the option to listen to your audiobook directly in your browser with Overdrive Listen. Refer to page 8 to see how (no software required). To download the Overdrive app for Windows or Mac, go to app.overdrive.com. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Then select Download for Windows Desktop (Note: these instructions refer to the Desktop Windows version). Click Run. Click Next. It should only Click Next. take a minute. When installation is complete, clickClose . Close all open windows on your computer. You will notice that a small icon has been placed on your desktop. Now, you can visit OverDrive Līve-brary.com Downloads and begin to download the audiobook, music, or video you are interested in. Audiobooks, music, and videos that you down- load to your home computer will download to the OverDrive media console that you just installed. CONNETQUOT PUBLIC LIBRARY September 2019 2 Step 2: eAudiobooks for Checking out an eAudiobook Windows/Mac & (iPod, SanDisc, other MP3 players and Windows or Mac computers— MP3 players including Windows 8) Before following these steps, make sure you have installed OverDrive on your computer (UNLESS you are listening to your eAudiobook in your computer’s browser- See p. 10 for more information) Visit Connetquot Library’s webpage on your home computer: www.connetquotlibrary.org/ digital Click the link for Download + Stream. Click the link for OverDrive featuring Libby. Click Sign in. Choose Connetquot Public Library from the drop down list and then enter the number from the back of your library card and click Sign In. You may also wish to save your login information. CONNETQUOT PUBLIC LIBRARY September 2019 3 Next, you will search for a title to check out. Click the Collections button to browse by category or use the search field to find a specific title or author. When you find a title to check out, click Borrow. Go to your loans page, found under My account. To download the audiobook to your computer, click the download button next to the title. If prompted, choose to Open the file— make sure you have already installed the OverDrive software on your computer. You also have the option to listen in your browser. Click the Listen Now button (details on p. 8). CONNETQUOT PUBLIC LIBRARY September 2019 4 A small window will pop up which begins the download process and acquires the license to your title. Click OK to continue. If you receive this message, click Yes to create a folder on your computer that will house this downloaded audiobook. You can choose to download as many parts of the audiobook as you wish. Leave all parts checked to download the entire book. The green status bar at the bottom of OverDrive will keep you informed of the downloading process. CONNETQUOT PUBLIC LIBRARY September 2019 5 When your book has finished downloading, you can play it on your computer using OverDrive. OverDrive has several other options you can use with audiobooks. To transfer to a device, plug your iPod or MP3 player into your computer’s the USB port. iPod users will first need to set your devices to Manually Manage Music. Plug your iPod into your computer and open iTunes. In iTunes, locate your device in the top-left corner and click the device. The Summary screen is displayed. Place a checkmark next to option 'Manually manage music…'. Click the Apply button. CONNETQUOT PUBLIC LIBRARY September 2019 6 Click Transfer on the OverDrive toolbar. The transfer wizard will begin. Click Next. After your device is detected, you can choose how many parts you want to transfer. OverDrive will begin to search for the device you plugged into the USB port on your computer. If you have only downloaded one part of the audiobook to your computer (as in the example below), you can only transfer one part. Click Next. “Gone Girl” The parts of the audiobook will begin to transfer to your device. When the transfer is complete, click Finish to close the transfer wizard. You can disconnect your device from the computer to enjoy your titles on the go. The titles you transfer to your device will not expire and can be played until you delete them from your device. CONNETQUOT PUBLIC LIBRARY September 2019 7 Listen in Your Browser Some titles are available inOverDrive Listen format, which allows you to listen to an eAudiobook in the web browser on your computer, tablet, or phone. You will need an active internet connection. Borrow a book that is available in OverDrive Listen format. Go to your loans page, under My account. Click Listen Now. Use the Play/Pause button to start or stop the player. Use the 10s button to skip 10 seconds backward in the audiobook. Click the bookmark button to leave a bookmark or highlight. Audio settings can be found under the menu button on the top of the screen. Click and drag the speedometer at the bottom to scroll through the book. You'll also see chapter breaks, bookmarks, and highlights here. CONNETQUOT PUBLIC LIBRARY September 2019 8 Tips on Transferring an Audiobook to Your Device Transfer an Audiobook to a Device (for most devices) Many audiobooks are available to transfer to a portable device such as an MP3 player or iPod. A title you transfer to a device is yours forever; the license to play it does not expire. For most devices: Plug in your device in the USB port on your computer. Open OverDrive and click on the item you want to transfer. Click the Transfer button at the top of the window. If applicable, select the parts you wish to transfer and then click Next. When prompted, you can unplug your device and enjoy your title while on the go. Transfer an Audiobook to an iPod: Option :1 In iTunes, you must choose to Manually manage music and videos. Then, follow the transfer instruc- tions above using OverDrive. Option :2 You can also use iTunes to transfer audiobooks to your iPod. After you have checked out and down- loaded an audiobook, it will be saved in a folder found under My Documents — My Media — MP3 Audiobooks. You can choose to set iTunes to monitor this folder and import titles automatically. Open iTunes. Click File, then Add Folder to Library. Browse to the folder My Documents — My Media —MP3 Audiobooks. Click Select Folder. iTunes will now import audiobook titles which you can drag to your iPod. Note: Your audiobooks may appear under the Music category in iTunes. Set your iPod to bookmark your audiobooks and remember where you stopped: Open iTunes and click on your player on the left-hand side. Find the desired Audiobook title and right-click on the file. Click Get Info. Click the Options tab. Check off Remember playback position. CONNETQUOT PUBLIC LIBRARY September 2019 9 Returning Downloaded eAudiobooks Early It is not necessary to return your eAudiobooks early. eAudiobooks will expire automatically at the end of the loan period. However, if you wish, you can return most titles early. Open OverDrive from your desktop and click View All Media to display the audiobook(s) you have downloaded. Click the title you wish to return so that it is highlighted. Then click the Delete button. Click Return/Delete to return the audiobook book back to the OverDrive Live-brary Download site. Returning a Listen in Your Browser eAudiobook Visit downloads.live-brary.com on the web browser and go to your loans page, under My account. Locate the eAudiobook on your bookshelf and click the Return link. CONNETQUOT PUBLIC LIBRARY September 2019 10 .
