2 THE TABTOUCH MASTERS SERIOUSLY GOOD TIMES

Perth Racing invites you and your horses to enjoy seriously good times at The 2017 TABtouch Masters, the second edition of the world’s only single-track racing festival featuring a Group One race worth at least $1,000,000 on three consecutive Saturdays. The James Boag’s Premium-Railway Stakes, Perth’s oldest Group One race, will get The TABtouch Masters under starter’s orders on Saturday 25 November; it is Ascot Racecourse’s classiest day of the year featuring six black type contests, including the Sky Racing- WA Guineas at Group Two level. The Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes, Australia’s last Group One sprint of the year, will be the second-up feature of The TABtouch Masters on Saturday 2 December; no-one will forget Takedown trainer Gary Moore’s post-race celebrations in 2016. And the Magic Millions-Kingston RAILWAY STAKES Town Classic, the southern hemisphere’s richest Group One 1,800 metres event, will wrap up The TABtouch Masters on Saturday 9 December; it honours one of the sport’s all-time greats. Perth Racing’s invitation is a sincere one; its Equine All Stars Incentive Scheme underwrites the up-front transport and accommodation costs associated with getting high-quality interstate- and overseas-based horses and their human carers to and from Ascot Racecourse for The TABtouch Masters, effectively providing connections of eligible gallopers with risk-free shots at glory in the James Boag’s Premium-Railway Stakes, the Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes, the Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic and, in a new addition from last year, the Sky Racing-WA Guineas. You can read all about the scheme, including its eligibility criteria, its inclusions and exclusions and how its post-race rebates work, on pages six and seven. The TABtouch Masters is part of Perth Racing’s commitment to iconic events that bring people together to share unique WINTERBOTTOM STAKES racing and non-racing experiences. Each day of The TABtouch Masters boasts a unique theme – racing purists on James Boag’s Premium Railway Stakes Day, life of the country on Crown Perth Winterbottom Stakes Day – it also features the finals of the TABtouch Regional Championship: The Road to Ascot and the WA Country Cups Fashions on the Field – and families and friends on Magic Millions Kingston Town Classic Day. More than 26,000 people enjoyed seriously good times last year so check out this year’s travel and hospitality packages on pages 10 and 11 because you do not have to be connected to a competing horse to experience extraordinary. See you at Ascot Racecourse for The TABtouch Masters in which the best of the west will take on the best of the rest in 27 races worth a total of $5,200,000 in prizemoney. Nominations for the James Boag’s Premium-Railway Stakes, the Crown Perth- Winterbottom Stakes, the Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic and the Sky Racing-WA Guineas will close at 12 noon Australian KINGSTON TOWN CLASSIC Western Standard Time on Monday 16 October.

3 JAMES BOAG’S PREMIUM RAILWAY STAKES (1,600 METRES)

The James Boag’s Premium-Railway Stakes is Perth’s oldest Group One race, a grand contest with a proud history dating back to 1887 and a special place in the hearts of the city’s sports fans.

Scales Of Justice announced himself as Western Australia’s latest thoroughbred racing superstar by beating four previous Group One winners, including New Zealand’s highest rated galloper, Kawi, and defending champion Good Project, to take out last year’s James Boag’s Premium-Railway Stakes. Scales Of Justice reappeared at Ascot Racecourse two weeks later and he went close to becoming the fifth horse to win the James Boag’s Premium-Railway SCALES OF JUSTICE Stakes and the Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic in the same season.

4 SKY RACING WA GUINEAS (1,600 METRES)

The Sky Racing-WA Guineas is Western Australia’s most valuable contest exclusively for three-year-olds and its winner frequently proceeds to the Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic versus the older horses.

Variation bucked the Sky Racing-WA Guineas trends last year, graduating from a restricted race for gallopers without a metropolitan victory in the previous 12 months to overhaul the likes of Whispering Brook, Lusaha and Ellicazoom in the final furlong of the Group Two event. In June, Variation became the first thoroughbred to win the Sky Racing-WA Guineas and the WAROA-Belmont Guineas in the same season, fending off Gatting under Brad Parnham and improving his record over 1,600 metres to three wins VARIATION from three starts over the metric mile.

5 EQUINE ALL STARS INCENTIVE SCHEME

Perth Racing’s Equine All Stars Incentive Scheme provides connections of eligible interstate- and overseas-based horses with effectively risk-free shots at glory in the four most prestigious races of The TABtouch Masters – the Group One James Boag’s Premium-Railway Stakes over 1,600 metres, the Group One Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes over 1,200m, the Group One Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic over 1,800m and, in a new addition from last year, the Group Two Sky Racing-WA Guineas over 1,600m - because the club wants the Ascot Racecourse event to be where the best of VANBRUGH, GOOD PROJECT & MACKINTOSH the west takes on the best of the rest from around the world.

Campaigning a horse interstate or overseas is an expensive undertaking. That Australia’s three most successful trainers last season – Chris Waller, Darren Weir and the Lindsay Park trio of David Hayes, Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig – were among the seven stables who sent gallopers based outside Western Australia to last year’s inaugural edition of The TABtouch Masters speaks volumes for Perth Racing’s Equine All Stars Incentive Scheme, which the club has tweaked this year to increase its scope.

The 2016 TABtouch Masters attracted 12 interstate- and overseas-based horses – Good Project, Mackintosh and Vanbrugh representing Waller, Rageese and Stratum Star representing Weir, He Or She, Keen Array and Sheidel representing Hayes and Dabernig, Malaguerra representing Peter Gelagotis, Takedown representing Gary Moore, Terravista representing Joseph Pride and New Zealand’s highest-rated thoroughbred, then five-time Group One winner Kawi, representing Allan Sharrock.

Perth Racing’s Equine All Stars Incentive Scheme is subject to strict eligibility criteria.

7 CROWN PERTH WINTERBOTTOM STAKES (1,200 METRES)

The Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes is Australia’s last Group One sprint of the year and 2016’s renewal can lay claim to being the form dash of last season having thrown black type winner after black type winner.

Three of the 12 sprinters which participated in last year’s Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes won a subsequent Group One contest before the end of the term – Sheidel (Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield), Terravista ( Lightning at Flemington) and Vega Magic (The Goodwood at Morphettville) – while First Among Equals, Malaguerra and Rock Magic all triumphed in stakes class across Australia and Takedown went down narrowly in the Hong Kong Sprint 15 days after his Ascot Racecourse TAKEDOWN victory sparked Gary Moore’s track invasion, which went viral on social media.

8 MAGIC MILLIONS KINGSTON TOWN CLASSIC (1,800 METRES)

The Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic is the southern hemisphere’s richest Group One event over its distance, a race worthy of the three-time WS Cox Plate champion, which won at Ascot Racecourse in 1982.

Stratum Star was Darren Weir’s first-ever runner in Western Australia and the 2015 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner’s thrilling triumph over Scales Of Justice in last year’s Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic resulted in him earning a spot on Widden Stud’s stallion roster and prompted his down-to-earth trainer to put $5,000 on the bar at Stone Motherless, thereby cementing his hero status with punters. The 2016 Magic Millions-Kingston Town Classic was the first of Stratum Star’s three consecutive STRATUM STAR major successes.
