ANNUAL REPORT 2015 16_A70_TV_Acad_Ad.qxp_Layout 1 7/8/16 11:43 AM Page 1 PROUD MEMBER OF »CBS THE TELEVISION ACADEMY 2 ©2016 CBS Broadcasting Inc. MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AS THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF CONTENT HAVE INCREASED in what is widely regarded as television’s second Golden Age, so have employment opportunities for the talented men and women who create that programming. And as our industry, and the content we produce, have become more relevant, so has the relevance of the Television Academy increased as an essential resource for television professionals. In 2015, this was reflected in the steady rise in our membership — surpassing 20,000 for the first time in our history — as well as the expanding slate of Academy-sponsored activities and the heightened attention paid to such high-profile events as the Television Academy Honors and, of course, the Creative Arts Awards and the Emmy Awards. Navigating an industry in the midst of such profound change is both exciting and, at times, a bit daunting. Reimagined models of production and distribution — along with technological innovations and the emergence of new over-the-top platforms — have led to a seemingly endless surge of creativity, and an array of viewing options. As the leading membership organization for television professionals and home to the industry’s most prestigious award, the Academy is committed to remaining at the vanguard of all aspects of television. Toward that end, we are always evaluating our own practices in order to stay ahead of industry changes, and we are proud to guide the conversation for television’s future generations.

  • Keane, for Allowing Us to Come and Visit with You Today
BIL KEANE June 28, 1999 Joan Horne and myself, Ann Townsend, interviewers for the Town of Paradise Valley Historical Committee are privileged to interview Bil Keane. Mr. Keane has been a long time resident of the Town of Paradise Valley, but is best known and loved for his cartoon, The Family Circus. Thank you, Mr. Keane, for allowing us to come and visit with you today. May we have your permission to quote you in part or all of our conversation today? Bil Keane: Absolutely, anything you want to quote from it, if it's worthwhile quoting of course, I'm happy to do it. Ann Townsend: Thank you very much. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what brought you to hot Arizona? Bil Keane: Well, it was a TWA plane. I worked on the Philadelphia Bulletin for 15 years after I got out of the army in 1945. It was just before then end of 1958 that I had been bothered each year with allergies. I would sneeze in the summertime and mainly in the spring. Then it got in to be in the fall, then spring, summer and fall. The doctor would always prescribe at that time something that would alleviate it. At the Bulletin I was doing a regular comic and I was editor of their Fun Book. I had a nine to five job there and we lived in Roslyn which was outside Philadelphia and it was one hour and a half commute on the train and subway. I was selling a feature to the newspapers called Channel Chuckles, which was the little cartoon about television which I enjoyed doing.

National Summer Learning Association Announces Partnerships with iHeartMedia, Clear Channel Outdoor Americas, and Litton Entertainment The media giants will help promote the importance of summer learning opportunities across the country through a multi-platform campaign BALTIMORE, MD, JULY 11, 2018 – Research shows that summers without quality learning opportunities hold our nation’s youth back in core subjects like math and reading; this "summer slide" is particularly acute among low-income communities. To help raise awareness of the importance of summer learning and to combat the summer slide, the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) has partnered with iHeartMedia and Clear Channel Outdoor Americas (CCOA), along with Litton Entertainment, in a national media campaign to elevate the importance of keeping all kids learning, safe and healthy during the critical summer months. Through a multi-platform campaign, iHeartMedia, will air public service announcements (PSAs) across its more than 850 radio stations nationwide during the month of July, featuring John Urschel, former guard for the Baltimore Ravens and current doctoral candidate in applied mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). iHeartMedia will also run a PSA that highlights the many free or low-cost summer learning activities that families can find in their own communities this summer. CCOA will run PSAs on 1,200 digital billboards across 28 markets. View campaign billboards here and listen to radio PSAs here. Litton Entertainment will run NSLA PSAs as part of its Smarter Summers = Brighter Futures campaign, which promotes summer learning and engagement opportunities for K-12 youth. Check out the PSA here which will run on Litton Entertainment’s programming blocks on the following broadcast outlets: The CW (“This Old House” and “Dog Whisperer”), Bounce, LAFF, GRIT and Go Time.
