LIVERPOOL AND MERSEYSIDE THEATRES TRUST LIMITED Andrea Nixon REGISTERED OFFICE 5-11 HOPE STREET, LIVERPOOL L1 9BH Interim Chair of the Board of Trustees, Liverpool & Merseyside Theatres Trust Limited COMPANY REGISTRATION NO. 3802476 REGISTERED CHARITY NO. 1081229 VAT NO. 241 3631 39

Liverpool and Merseyside Theatres Trust Limited is a local artistic force with national significance and an international reputation. Our two theatres, the Liverpool Everyman and the Liverpool Playhouse, are united by our passion for our art-form, our love of our city and our unswerving belief that theatre at its best can transform lives. Our mission is to use the power of theatre to inspire, entertain and nurture positive social change.

Liverpool City Region is an exciting, vibrant and diverse region with a passion for culture and a real belief in art at the centre of regeneration and inclusive growth. The Everyman and Playhouse Theatres both produce and receive artistic work, and have a strong commitment to development and growth of new creative talent, whilst engaging across the many and varied communities represented across the city and region.

The past year has offered LMTT the opportunity to regroup, restructure and stabilise the organisation, artistically, socially and financially. After entering into a new relationship with Arts Council England (ACE) outside of the National Portfolio in December 2018, LMTT has developed a vibrant new strategy and business plan for 2020 – 22, approved by both ACE and LCC, creating a resilient business model, securing funding until April 2022, at which point LMTT will reapply to join the National Portfolio. Our new direction is centred around a deep understanding of the needs and wants of our city as articulated in ’s (LCC) Inclusive Growth Plan, designed to make of the best cities in the world; a city that is known for its creative reinvention, passion, resilience, and its commitment to culture, community and fairness.

At the same time a Liverpool Theatres review is underway, commissioned by LCC and funded by ACE. LMTT’s strategy takes account of the initial draft findings of the report, responding to the important role that LMTT must play in addressing the perceived gaps across the Liverpool artistic programme of work. The early recommendations of the Review position LMTT as a key delivery partner in bringing high-quality drama to the Liverpool region, and in exploring how best to strengthen the overall theatre ecology in the city, creating new collaborative partnerships with the other key cultural organisations. The LMTT CEO will be required to help shape these discussions and explore the kind of roles each partner can play.

Our Theatres Across the two theatres - one a 440-seat thrust, the other a 670- seat proscenium - there is an opportunity to produce and present the richest range of work for the widest audience.

The opening of the Stirling Prize winning Everyman in 2014 propelled us into a new and exciting era. The new theatre opened up many possibilities for artistic development and experience; for participation and involvement, and for building our relationship with a wide range of audiences. Found beneath the in Williamson Square, the Playhouse has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building for both its old 19th century auditorium and 20th century front of house extension. Recent hires have included workshops, auditions, rehearsals, launch events and lectures, and we work with local catering suppliers to provide bespoke food options for each event, supported by our three bars.

LMTT is a registered charity, and the commercial operation is managed by a subsidiary trading company whose profits feed directly back into our work. The commercial offer oversees both the Food & Drink offer at the Everyman, and the Playhouse Bars. The Everyman operation offers everything from a bustling daily lunch service, to pre-theatre dining and large-scale events and hospitality. Our food & drink operation is varied and spans 4 discrete catering areas: The Bistro, The Street Café, the Theatre Bar and the Playhouse Bars.

We run regular events with live music, and all of our bars serve a Photo © Marc Brenner range of craft beers; interesting spirits; and wines to suit all palates.

Alongside its core theatre programme, the Everyman also plays host to a diverse range of events. From wedding ceremonies and receptions, to corporates hires and dining, the developing events business helps to support the work on stage and in the community.

Photo© Stephen Vaughan Our People Our award-winning Young Everyman Playhouse programme (YEP) is much more than a youth theatre, it is a ground-breaking, multi-disciplinary talent development programme. We have profound relationships in the communities of Merseyside, nurtured through an extensive and innovative outreach and education programme, and believe passionately that the creation, delivery and experience of the highest quality theatre must be open to all; we will nurture and develop the artists and creative workforce for tomorrow and we want YEP members to progress to work in our theatres, on our stages and in the local theatre ecology, as well as influencing and making theatre nationally and internationally and bringing new ideas, work and practice back to Liverpool. We want our workforce to be representative of our city and our country and for Liverpool to have a pool of home-grown artists and theatre makers who are acclaimed and influential way beyond our city.

Our Civic Duty Our new strategy places progressive social change, embedded talent development and artistic innovation at the heart of our place in the city. We have developed key collaborative relationships across the city and region, listening to multiple community voices to inform the projects we deliver and the work we place on our stages. The Liverpool City and Region are active collaborators with the cultural sector and LMTT is prime in ensuring our own strategy supports the civic priorities of the city. Health and wellbeing and the visitor economy are key drivers of economic prosperity and the LMTT CEO will be critical in ensuring the broader collaborative relationships and partnerships both inside and outside the cultural sector are maintained, and the plan is executed.

We are committed to diversity and equality and expect all staff to be active in promoting diversity and supporting people to experience our work and buildings. We recognise that Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) and disabled people are currently under represented within our organisation and we want this to change. So, we particularly welcome applications from BAME and disabled applicants, and we are a Disability Confident Employer.

We are a strategic partner with PiPA (Parents and Carers in Performing Arts), which campaigns to enable and empower parents, carers and employers to achieve sustainable change in attitudes and practices in order to attract, support and retain a more diverse and flexible workforce. We are always happy to discuss solutions that allow people to balance their caring responsibilities with their working lives, for example, through job shares or flexible working arrangements. www.everymanplayhouse.com
