A new college is being launched by Puduvayal Shri Veerasekara Umaiyambigai Educational and Charitable Trust from the Academic year 2016 – 2017 which is affiliated to Alagappa University, Karaikudi. To promote and enrich the rural youth with knowledge and skills on par with their urban counterparts is the major objective. Our Vision : Education is a continuous process and Vidhyaa Giri College of Arts and Science(VCAS) will always remain in the forefront and will strive to provide quality education coupled with the latest infrastructural facilities, skills based, cost effective, transforming the students, globally employability responsible citizen to be recognized as a center of excellence, which will leave a long lasting impression in the minds and hearts of the Students, Parents, Staff and all Stake- holders who have been fortunate enough to be associated with it. Our Mission : Ÿ To impart quality education. Ÿ To adopt new techniques and improve students skills. Ÿ To train them to overcome any critical situation. Ÿ To develop leadership qualities. Ÿ To train them to become good citizens. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT : The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 2016 to offer pure Mathematics courses for undergraduate programs. From 2017 onwards, the department has incorporated elective courses for undergraduate and postgraduate program and also advanced coursed for M.Sc., programs. The department has been recognized as a research center by Alagappa University in 2021. The Department of Mathematics, at Vidhyaa Giri College of Arts and Science serves as an ideal training ground for learning a broad range of analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellence and commitment are two eyes of the department as it always strives to be the centre for excellence in acquiring knowledge and skill required for engineers and technologists. The department functions from the inception of the institution with the present strength of 5 qualified and dedicated faculty members. Two faculty members are doctorate holders. Country: Varies Presented by:International Mathematical Union First Awarded:1936 Math Events Of The Year National Mathematics Day It is observed on 22 December every year to mark the birth anniversary of legendary Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan and his contributions in the field of mathematics. In 2012 , the former Prime Minister of India, Dr.Manmohan Singh , paid tribute to Srinivasa Ramanujan at a function organized on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the great mathematician Srinivasa Iyengar Ramanujan in Chennai. 22 December, was declared as National Mathematics Day. Thus, on 22 December 2012, National Mathematics Day was celebrated across the country for the first time. RAMANUJAN'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION IN OUR COLLEGE Our Department students actively participate in various events organized on Dec 22 Celebration Of - p Day On March 14 Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi) . Pi Day is observed on March 14 (3/14 in the month/day format) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π. It was founded in 1988 by Larry Shaw, an employee of the Exploratorium. On celebrating this occasion the Mathematics Association Cute p Club organized a one day seminar on “Applications of Algebra and Lattices” . Our Principal Dr.R.Swaminathan presided the function and the keynote speaker was Dr.R.Meenakshi,Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Seethalakshmi Aachi College for women , Pallathur. INTRODUCTION Pudukkottai has a familiar Historical background and it was formerly a Princely State with the title of “SAMASTHANAM” ruled by the “H.H.The Rajah’s of THONDAIMANS”. The present Pudukkottai district is encompassing the entire Princely State of Pudukkottai and parts of Tiruchirappalli and Thanjavur districts. Pudukkottai district came into existence on 14.1.1974. The erstwhile “Pudukkottai State” has been justly famous for its efficient and stable administration through the years with its seasoned administrative system, operating with well understood concepts of hierarchy line of command and discreet adherences to principles and procedures. Really this credit goes to the initial author and as well as the founder of the system of “District Office Manual”, by “Sir Alexander Loftus Tottenham”, the Agent of the British Emperor/ Administrator of erstwhile “Pudukkottai State” for his aim of trim and efficient administration. Pudukkotai District is bounded on the North East and East by Thanjavur District, on the South East by Bay of Bengal, on the South West by Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts and on the West and North East by Thiruchirapalli District. 1 2. DISASTER MANAGEMENT PLAN The main objective of Disaster Management Plan is to assess the vulnerability of district to various major hazards so that mitigate steps can be taken to contain the damages before and during disaster and to provide relief and take reconstruction measures at the shortest possible time effectively.
