VIKINGS SIGN RUNNING BACK DALVIN COOK TO MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION

Eagan, Minn. (September 12, 2020) – The announced running back Dalvin Cook has signed a multi-year contract extension with the club.

Cook, who enters his fourth NFL season in 2020, was named to his first-career after leading the fan voting as the top non-quarterback among vote-getters in 2019. The Miami, Florida, native ran for 1,135 yards in 14 games played last season, becoming the eighth player in Vikings history to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season, and the first since did so in 2015. Cook is also just the fourth player in franchise history to score 13 or more rushing in a single season. His 13 rushing touchdowns in the regular season tied for the second-highest single-season total in franchise history, only trailing Adrian Peterson’s 18 rushing touchdowns in 2009.

Surpassing 2,000 career rushing yards in just his 27th career game, Cook trails only Peterson (21 games) for the fastest to reach that milestone in franchise history. In the Vikings Wild Card victory at New Orleans on Jan. 5, 2020, Cook became the fourth Viking in franchise history to record two or more rushing touchdowns in a postseason game and the first player to do so since Peterson tallied three touchdowns at New Orleans on Jan. 24, 2010.

Cook finished the 2019 season with 519 receiving yards, ranking sixth among all NFL running backs. Averaging 11.2 yards after catch per reception, Cook led the NFL among all qualifying players last season.

The Florida State product, who ranked seventh in the NFL with 1,654 yards from scrimmage in 2019, was named Week 10 NFC Offensive Player of the Week at Dallas and FedEx Ground Player of the Week twice, in Week 2 at Green Bay and Week 7 at Detroit.

Originally selected by Minnesota in the second round (41st overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft, Cook has appeared in 29 career games (28 starts) while totaling 2,104 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns on 457 attempts.
