People of the Beetle Generation sit up and take notice when they hear it today. They are strangely touched, experience melancholy, as though remembering something long since lost. It is a sound as unmistakable as the Beetle's silhouette: it buzzes, it putters - all against a background of soothing fan noises – a feeling of euphoria which has underscored our mobility for decades and which was the accompaniment for our independence and for growing prosperity during those years. Can You Guess the Volkswagen?
When you think of VWs, do you think of the Rometsch, Hebmuller or Tempo Truck? Or are you more likely to think of Beetles and Buses? The lesser-known VWs have made a mark on the automotive world just like their more popular siblings. And like any vehicle, they had certain characteristics that were solely their own, or sometimes revised as the years went on. Mid America Motorworks takes a look at the VWs that have been making a quiet mark on the hobby. Volkswagen Type 4 The Volkswagen Type 4 is a mid-sized car manufactured and marketed by Volkswagen of Germany from 1968 to 1974 in two-door and four-door sedan as well as two-door station wagon body styles. The Type 4 evolved through two generations, the 411 (1968–72) and 412 series (1972–74). Over its six year production run, Volkswagen manufactured 367,728 Type 4 models, compared with 210,082 of the subsequent Volkswagen K70 with its four year model life. In the United States, VW sold 117,110 Type 4s from 1971 to July 1974. 411 Type 4 1968 – 1972 • 1969 411 4 Door sedan • The engine was aluminum based, more robust than the magnesium based Bug engine and went on to power the VW Bus until 1982. • 411s were 1700cc and 412s 1800cc. • All models had Macpherson strut front suspension. 1968-1969 they had carbs in the US, followed by fuel injection in later years. The horsepower was raised from 68 to 85 bhp by 1973. 412 Type 4 1972 -1974 • Stationwagen or Variant • Manufactured from 1968-1972 as the 411 and late 1972-1974 as the 412. -

The sporty coupé is celebrating its 30th birthday in 2018. The Volkswagen brand is presenting two very exclusive models from this series at the Bremen Classic Motorshow, which begins today. The Bremen Classic Motorshow traditionally marks the beginning of the new classic car season. Volkswagen is attending the small but impressive classic car show in the northern German city in its own right for the first time in 2018. Its centrepiece will be a Press contact sports coupé celebrating its 30th Volkswagen Corrado 16V G60 (1989) birthday this year – the Volkswagen Communications Volkswagen Corrado. The dynamic 2+2-seater was introduced in 1988 and Sascha Oliver Neumann Spokesperson Volkswagen Classic was originally planned as the successor to the Scirocco II. When introduced, the coupé had a high-torque 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine which was charged by a mechanically powered G-Lader supercharger. This G60 engine boasted power output of 118 kW/160 hp. Two further engines were added to the Corrado range in 1991 – a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 102 kW/136 hp and the top- of-the-range 2.9-litre VR6 engine (140 kW/190 hp) that accelerated the Corrado to up to 235 km/h. -

In fact, at least one ADAS feature is available on 92.7% of new vehicles available in the U.S. as of May 2018.1 Not only are these advanced driver assistance systems within financial reach of many new car consumers (about $1,950 for the average ADAS bundle2), they also have the potential to avoid or mitigate the severity of a crash. However, the terminology used to describe them varies widely and often seems to prioritize marketing over clarity. The lack of standardized names for automotive systems adds confusion for motorists when researching and using advanced safety systems. The intent of this paper is to create a dialog with the automotive industry, safety organizations and legislators about the need for common naming for advanced driver assistance systems. Within this report, AAA is proposing a set of standardized technology names for use in describing advanced safety systems. AAA acknowledges that this is a dynamic environment, and that further input from stakeholders and consumer research will further refine this recommendation. To date, automakers have devised their own branded technology names which, for example, has resulted in twenty unique names for adaptive cruise control and nineteen different names for lane keeping assistance (section 3.2) alone. A selection of these names is shown in Figure 1.
