    Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Marathon Swimming Qualification Dear Federation, We would like to kindly inform you that 25 male and 25 female athletes can start at the Marathon Swimming Event of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The maximum quota per NOC per gender is two (2). The quota place is allocated to the athlete(s) by name. All athletes must comply with the provisions of the Olympic Charter currently in force, including but not limited to, Rule 41 (Nationality of Competitors) and Rule 43 (World Anti-Doping Code and the Olympic Movement Code on the Prevention of Manipulation of Competitions). Only those athletes who comply with the Olympic Charter may participate in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.     Ferry Weertman is geboren op 27 juni 1992 in Naarden. Al van baby af aan heeft Ferry gezwommen. Spelenderwijs rolde hij in het wedstrijd-zwemmen bij De Otters-Het Gooi in Bussum. Later heeft Ferry ook nog bij DWK getraind, waarna hij door kon groeien naar eerst het regionale en vervolgens naar het nationale team in Eindhoven. In 2011 won hij bij de EJK open water in Navia, Spanje, een bronzen medaille. Hierna besloot hij om zich op het internationale open water zwemmen te richten. In het eindklassement van de LEN-cup werd hij (gedeeld) 1e. Bij de EK in Italië behaalde hij een mooie 6e plaats, slecht 9 sec achter de nummer 1. Ook in de World Cup wedstrijden kwam hij goed mee met een 5e plaats in het eindklassement. In 2013 ging Ferry trainen in het nationale team, werd hij 6e op het WK en kreeg hij een A-status van NOC/NSF. Hij sloot het seizoen mooi af met een Nederlands record op de 400 m vrije slag (korte baan) en deelname aan het EK korte baan in Herning, Denemarken op de 400 m en 1500 m vrije slag. In 2014 wordt het EK open water en EK lange baan in Berlijn gehouden. In de aanloop daar naartoe behaalde Ferry de 1e plaats in de Grand Prix 15 km in Mexico, en de 6e plaats bij de Worldcup wedstrijd over 10 km aldaar. Ook tijdens de Swimcup, tevens NK, zwom hij prima tijden. In Frankrijk werd Ferry kampioen op de 5 km en de 10 km bij de Open Franse Kampioenschappen.
