Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Marathon Swimming Qualification Dear Federation, We would like to kindly inform you that 25 male and 25 female athletes can start at the Marathon Swimming Event of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The maximum quota per NOC per gender is two (2). The quota place is allocated to the athlete(s) by name. All athletes must comply with the provisions of the Olympic Charter currently in force, including but not limited to, Rule 41 (Nationality of Competitors) and Rule 43 (World Anti-Doping Code and the Olympic Movement Code on the Prevention of Manipulation of Competitions). Only those athletes who comply with the Olympic Charter may participate in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The first way to qualify to the Games, according to the FINA By Laws, BL9.3.7.6.3.1, was the ten (10) highest placed athletes from the 10km event of 18th FINA World Championships 2019 Gwangju (KOR) obtain one (1) quota place: Men: Florian WELLBROCK (GER) Marc-Antione OLIVIER (FRA) Rob MUFFELS (GER) Kristof RASOVSZKY (HUN) Jordan WILIMOVSKY (USA) Gregorio PALTRINIERI (ITA) Ferry WEERTMAN (NED) Alberto MARTINEZ (ESP) Mario SANZULLO (ITA) David AUBRY (FRA) Women: Xin XIN (CHN) Haley ANDERSON (USA) Rachele BRUNI (ITA) Lara GRANGEON (FRA) Ana Marcela CUNHA (BRA) Ashley TWICHELL (USA) Kareena LEE (AUS) Finnia WUNRAM (GER) Leonie BECK (GER) Sharon van ROUWENDAAL (NED) Further qualification events and possibilities will come as follows: - FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier (BL 9.3.7.6.3.2.) will be hosted by the Japanese Swimming Association in Fukuoka at 30-31 May 2020. Only NF/NOC not having qualified swimmers through the FINA World Championships 2019 may elect to send up to two (2) Competitors per gender. Each NF/NOC can qualify only one (1) Competitor per gender. 18 Marathon Swimmers (9 Men & 9 Women). Féderation Internationale de Natation www.fina.org Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Marathon Swimming Qualification - Continental Representation (5) Each Continental Association has the right to nominate one (1) athlete per continent and per gender. - The Host Country will automatically qualify one (1) quota for men and one (1) quota for women, a total of two (2) quotas. If an allocated quota place is not confirmed by the NOC by the confirmation of quota place deadline or is declined by the NOC, the quota place will be reallocated to the next highest placed athlete in the same gender from the FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier 2020 not yet qualified, respecting the maximum number of quota per NOC.
