    For immediate release Westshore Rebels Announce Coach Shane Beatty Will Continue as Assistant Head Coach for the 2017 Season Victoria, BC, Canada – January 31, 2017 – After the announcement that Charly Cardilicchia was the new Head Coach of the Westshore Rebels it was uncertain if Assistant Head Coach Shane Beatty would continue coaching for the 2017 season. We are happy to announce that Coach Beatty has agreed to continue on as Assistant Head Coach, as well as Strength and Conditioning Coach and Director of Player Development. “After being a part of the growing success of the Rebels team over the past year I wasn’t ready to leave. I am so proud of our team and I know that this year we will come back even stronger with the help of our highly experienced team of Coaches. I still have more to teach these talented football players and I look forward to the upcoming season,” says Beatty. Coach Beatty brings decades of coaching and athletic training experience to the Rebels. His resume includes 23 years of coaching experience at the University level in the U.S., in a wide variety of roles. In his coaching career, Beatty has served as Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Coach at Reedley College, Defensive Coordinator and Head Coach at West Virginia Tech, Assistant Director of Football Operations at Iowa State, and Defensive Coordinator and Strength Coach at the College of Sequoias. Beatty has also trained high level athletes outside of football, including high school and collegiate athletes, wrestlers, Olympic sprinters, and pro golfers. During his three seasons as Head Coach of the Okanagan Sun, Beatty was awarded CJFL Coach of the Year twice, and led the team to a BCFC championship in 2015.

History of True Sport In 2001, Canada’s Federal-Provincial/Territorial Ministers responsible for sport came together to bring ethics and respectful conduct back into the way Canadians play and compete. They believed that damaging practices—cheating, bullying, violence, aggressive parental behaviour, and even doping—were beginning to undermine the positive impact of community sport in Canada. The first step they took in turning back this negative tide was the signing of what is now known as the London Declaration, an unprecedented affirmation of positive sporting values and principles. The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport conducted a nationwide survey in 2002, which made clear the important role that sport plays in the lives of Canadians, as well as Canadians’ strong desire to uphold a model of sport that reflects and teaches positive values like fairness, inclusion, and excellence. In September of 2003, leading sports officials, sports champions, parents and kids from across Canada came together through a symposium entitled “The Sport We Want.” Several strong messages emerged from this gathering.

I am constantly finding ways to narrativize it from multiple perspectives, and through different eras and generations, as well as creating imaginary versions of the capital city in two of my books where I invented parallel universes. In my talk I will investigate how London has manifested as a guiding light for my imagination, how my writing subverts the dominant narratives about the city today and in history, and how London’s rich multiculturalism presents never-ending possibilities for creativity and storytelling. Cities are where we can pursue truth and reality. What exactly does the city, or, if you like, the planetary megalopolis gives us to think? For me, above all, a historical materialism; but a historical materialism that is sui generis, of its own kind, not to be confused with other historical materialisms, a historical materialism specifically of the city. On the one hand, self- evidently, cities are always material entities, cannot be otherwise.

Aesthetic Citizenship: Popular Culture, Migrant Youth, and the Making of 'World Class' Delhi Abstract Delhi has nearly doubled in population since the early 1990s due to in-migration (censusindia.gov, 2011). These migrants, like migrants around the world, strive to adapt to their new surroundings by producing themselves in ways which make them socially, economically, and politically viable. My project examines how recent international and intranational immigrant youth who have come to Delhi to partake in its economic possibilities and, in some cases, to escape political uncertainty, are utilizing globally circulating popular cultural forms to make themselves visible in a moment when the city strives to recast its image as a world class destination for roaming capital (Roy, 2011). I focus on two super diverse settlement communities in South Delhi to explore the citizenship making claims of immigrant youth who, to date, have been virtually invisible in academic and popular narratives of the city. Specifically, I follow three groups of ethnically diverse migrant youth from these two settlement communities as they engage with hip hop, a popular cultural form originating in Black American communities in the 1970s (Chang, 2006; Morgan, 2009; Rose, 1994).

    Attachment 3: Parks Development Funding Program Public engagement summary – Spring / Summer 2019 Letters of Support 1 Attachment 3: Letters from Neighbourhood Associations 2 6 September, 2019 New approach to funding our future parks I am in general agreement with the funding proposal as presented by Parks & Buildings Planning Manager, Robert Parlane I believe our neighbourhood has already aligned itself favourably with the acquisition and development proposal being presented. The Kettle Valley development project has a higher than normal number of parks and it is my understanding that the developer’s engineers worked diligently together with City planners to make this happen by providing both neighbourhood and community parks in its original plan. As a result, the amount of green space within short walking distance of the homes here, compared to most Kelowna communities, were a key “quality of life” element in our decision to build a home in this area. It has been my home now for 20 years. Therefore, I would fully support any one of the financial proposals being put forward that will best support the Future Parks Funding submission’s acceptance into the OCP. From my view, if Council were to be in agreement, future generations will praise it for its forward-looking view of the quality of life for its residents. Baseball history doesn’t always have to be boring statistical analysis. This is a game that began somewhere in the early 1800’s and was increasingly documented after the first major professional league was founded in the United States in 1876 and Canada has been very much a part of that game as you will find below. In addition to this section we have also created a series of baseball trivia and informationals that will allow you to learn more about the game in what we hope is an entertaining fashion. As few boring stats as possible , because few of us are bookkeepers or accountants. Foxy & Tip Marchildon Too Canadian Baseball is alive and well and has contributed greatly to the Major League game, even if Ferguson Jenkins remains the only Canadian born player enshrined at Cooperstown. You may think that Larry Walker is the lone Canadian to win a Major League batting crown and if so, you would be wrong, but if you weren’t alive in 1887 then you didn’t see a Canadian lad named Tip O’Neill become the first ever triple crown winner in professional baseball history or that legendary U.S. Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill was named after that same Canadian triple crown winner. And did you know that the first player to use a padded glove (Foxy Irwin), the first retired player to start broadcasting games on radio (Jack Graney) and the first no-hitter recorded after the top players returned from service in WW II (Dick Fowler) were also Canadians? Graney also played in the same starting outfield with baseball legend Shoeless Joe Jackson as well as Hall of Fame player Tris Speaker and batted behind Cy Young in his final big league season when Cy was wrapping up his career record of 51 1 wins (Unquestionably baseball’s most unbreakable Major League mark).

    UNIVERSITY CIRCLES Athletics & Recreation Circle May 11, 2004 Round 1 Report This report identifies and makes recommendations on four areas the Circle believes to be critical to the development of an appropriate Athletics and Recreation Department for UBC Okanagan. Preamble UBC (Vancouver) has an established and well-deserved reputation for providing excellent Student Life opportunities. The combination of a strong student government and a diversified and well-run Athletics and Recreation Department enables UBC to offer students and staff a vast range of programs and activities, which enhance their post- secondary experience. In order to live up to these expectations, UBC Okanagan must take steps to ensure that students choosing to attend the Okanagan Campus of UBC are provided similar opportunities for learning outside the classroom thus influencing their perception of the relative value of their educational experience. The community’s perception of the ‘new university’ will also be greatly influenced by the institutions against which we compete. We need to support the UBC brand outside the classroom. In an attempt to proceed using a value-based planning model, the University Circle on Athletics and Recreation first drafted a vision and a set of core values as a context for developing a set of recommendations. Vision A ‘work hard – play hard’ University that supports student success and student life through active participation in an Athletics & Recreation Department that includes a strong Intramurals program, a comprehensive Campus Rec. program capitalizes on the local environment, a vibrant Active Living program and a competitive Varsity Athletics program. Mission The Athletics and Recreation at UBC Okanagan will provide a range of opportunities in which all members of the UBC-O community can participate and through which their educational experience will be enhanced.
