KILSHEELAN PITCH

The Club was founded in 1924 and the games were played on different farmers lands until Sergeant Marron Chairman of the club with great foresig,t started looking for a permanent home for the games. Eventually 8 acres were bought for [400 from William Stokes. The field was officially opened on the 31/8/1952 by the President of the G.A.A. Mr. V. O'Donoghue. Commercials and Fethard are no strangers to Kilsheelan Pitch having contested many great matches at this venue.

JIM WILLIAMS, CLONME l.

In his first 18 months of competition Jim was a member of that Tipperary Senior Football team which lost the All Ireland Semi Final to Cavan in 1935. Jim won 4 County medals - two each with Shamrocks and Clonmel Commercials. Jim got his first game when his brother Tommy was fallen ill on the eve of the 1934 County Final. Jimmy was the replacement and kept a clean sheet between the posts as shamrocks won by 1-6 to 0·5 against Templemore. Jim played soccer under the name Jim Wilson for Shelbourne. Newspaper photographs of the time showed Jim Wilson saves from the back and caused the chairman of the South Board Mick Lacey to state "having seen and studied all the photographs nothing convinces me that Jim Wilson is Jim Williams". Jim retired in 1952 his last match being against Kilsheelan when he saved a penalty from Percy Larkin who was then Tipperary's right full back. Great players selected by Jim are George Comerford, Mick Cahill, Bunny Lambe. Thank you Jim for your many great saves.

DICK ALLEN FETHA RO

When one recalls great names from Fethard Ned O'Shea, Mick Byrne, Liam Connolly, the great Dick Al len's name will always be among them. He palyed with Fethard Senior team from 1933 to 1943 winning south and county honours ('38 and '42). Dicks first game fOf Fethard was in 1943 in the South final against Arravale Rovers which Fethard won 2-6 to 2·2. Dick played minor with the county in 1930 and he won a senior munster championship in 1935. He also represented Munster in the Railway Cup from 1934 to 1939. Dick himself rates Dick Hayes of Fethard and Jimmy Lonergan of Kilsheelan as two of the best small men he ever saw playing. Other great players of Dick's era were Cly Mullins, Gus Danagher, Mick Connors, of Fethard. Dick enjoyed the game and says that if he were back &gain he would do it all the same. Thank you Dick for all the pleasure you gave us on the field. McCARTHYS HOTEL
