    MICHAEL (MIKE JOE) CRONIN SUNRISE: 12TH SEPTEMBER 1942 SUNSET: 26TH MAY 2020 Memories are a treasure, time can’t take them away and we have so many wonderful memories of Mike Joe that we will cherish forever – sometimes with laughter, sometimes with tears, but always with love. After leaving school in Lenamore he worked in various jobs – with farmers, with the Board of Public Works, in Listowel Mart, with a builder, as an honorary milk man with Tom Manaher, at Newtownsandes Co-op and finally in Tarbert Power Station where he made many wonderful friends for life. Although his two sisters Noreen and Mary moved to England, all three kept in regular contact with each other. This was very important to Mike Joe and he loved their visits home, always looking forward to meeting them for a good catch up. Stories were recalled of days gone by and new memories were made. Even though they were separated by land and sea they always held a special bond. As Noreen said to me only recently she “always knew she could rely and depend on Mike”. In later years this bond was nourished and strengthened through friendship with his brother in law Ron, nephew Tim, grandnephew Aidan and grandniece Niamh. Mom and Dad had a very special bond. Their love and friendship towards each other was plain for all to see. Their friendship towards each other was plain for all to see. They both enjoyed doing their own thing and also loved doing things together. Dad was so proud of Mom in many ways.

In that way we can keep the resolution of the photos high and the size of both sections will be less than one megabyte. Part one is the magazine section and part two is the weekend roundup. The three Cup Finals in Croke Park provided some fine hurling but the crowd was just under 4,000 so it is probably back to the drawing board for those finals. Each needs to be played as a curtain raiser to a game from the Liam McCarthy Championship to create the right atmosphere. The Munster Final had patches of fine hurling and some fine individual displays but lacked the intensity of former classics. Both teams Tipperary and Waterford are continu - ing to make progress. Tipperary still look the best challenger to the champions but Wa - terford battled with heart and could yet make a final four berth. Best wishes ‘til next week from Hurling World. Congratulations to Katie Morris, Sinéad Meagher and Eimear Meagher, our new All-Ireland medal holders. The girls were part of the Munster team that won the Girls 40x20 Interprovincial Team of 10 event in Kingscourt, Cavan. The girls were the only Tipp representatives on the team which is a great achievement for the club. Well done also to Eamonn Spillane who was one of the two Munster team coaches on their great win. VOL. 2 ISSUE 3 APRIL 2014 SEPTEMBER 2013 FINAL CIVIC RECEPTION AT NENAGH TOWN COUNCIL On Friday April 25th, our club was honoured with a civic reception from Nenagh Town Council. This is the highest award the town can award and it was in recognition of the fantastic success our club enjoyed in 2013 in a number of different codes. Firstly the camogie section was honoured because they won the county Junior League and championship while the U18's also 1 captured county championship honours. Both our Scór and handball sections had numerous successes last year and they were recognised, as were our minor hurlers who won the county title. 2 3 Special mention must go to Aislinn O’Brien who was individually recognised because not only was she on the camogie teams who were so successful but she was also on the Nenagh Town AFC teams that won Munster honours at both U16 and Senior level.

Led by Sean Barlow and the late Sean Lyons the United Sports Panel was formed. They felt the time was right to have an Award Scheme in the county to honour amateur sports stars in their chosen sports annually. In fact, one should note that these were the first such awards in the country. As well as honouring Tipperary’s outstanding amateur sportspersons the United Sports Panel had another aim, as expressed by the second chairman, the late Tom Halpin, when he presented the awards in 1964. He expressed the hope ‘that functions such as these, which brought the stars of various sports together, would help to promote unity in sport.’ Like all innovations, it was not without its teething problems. Finding ways to finance it and getting venues were just two of them. In the early days businesses in Clonmel were canvassed to sponsor the trophies. This problem was eliminated for the 1964 awards when Messrs Showerings Ltd.
