A Get French Football News Publication Rights Reserved ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !1 Note From the Editor: Welcome to the Get French Football News 100, a publication that celebrates the enactments of footballers associated with French football over the course of 2013. " The Get French Football News team got together last December to bounce ideas about a way in which we could mark the end of an explosive year in French football and we invite you to indulge in the final product. " After all, it has been quite some year. Qatari-backed Paris Saint Germain lifted their first Ligue 1 title for 19 years and were unlucky to be edged out in their Champions League Quarter Final duel with one of Europe’s greatest clubs in FC Barcelona, only on the away goal rule. " French football history was made on many fronts in 2013 with a Claude Puel-inspired OGC Nice team qualifying for their first European campaign for 15 years, St Étienne winning their first ever Coupe de la Ligue and the French national team becoming the first side in history to turnaround a 1st leg two goal deficit in a European World Cup Qualifying Playo# to book their place in Brazil for 2014. " Invariably in football, where there are highs there are also lows. One of the former mainstay clubs Le Mans FC went into liquidation and were subsequently relegated to the 6th tier of French football (DH). The French football world was rocked by the loss of former manager and player Bruno Metsu who famously took Senegal to the quarter finals of the 2002 World Cup, tragically losing his battle with cancer at the age of just 59.

Essays in the Political Economy of Organisations: Power, Leadership and Coordination Lina María Restrepo-Plaza PhD in Economics University of East Anglia School of Economics July 2017 © This copy of the thesis has been supplied on condition that anyone who consults it is understood to recognise that its copyright rests with the author and that use of any information derived there from must be in accordance with current UK Copyright Law. In addition, any quotation or extract must include full attribution 1 Abstract This study provides with behavioural insights on three components of the political economy of organisations namely power, leadership and coordination. In the second chapter, we implement a lab experiment to study how the experience of power affects the value given to powerful positions. We contribute to the literature on the value of decisions rights by replicating in the lab a real-life-like power asymmetry. Moreover, we manipulate the status and the legitimacy of the powerful positions, and elicit the value of power from the powerful and the powerless reference points. We find that those who have experienced and exercised power are willing to let go substantial pecuniary compensations to remain in charge. The third chapter experimentally compares teams versus individual in a coordination task. Since in our setting teams do not necessarily outperform individuals, our results partially contrast the state of the art on this arena. We contribute to the literature on organisational behaviour by pointing out the importance of coordinating institutions such as voting rules, communication, joint incentives, etc., to promote teams’ coordination. Finally, we empirically study the role of formal leaders in real-life organisations: football teams.

  • Ligue 1 2013/2014: Your Guide to the Season Ahead
Ligue 1 2013/2014: Your Guide to the Season Ahead Get French Football News A Note from the Editor: The transfer window begins to pick up pace as we head to its business end, the month of August. However, there is something that enthuses and excites me far more: football is back. As I look back on last season, in many ways, I wish we could merely repeat it. Whether it was PSG’s magical Champions League run, Saint Etienne’s monumental Coupe de la Ligue win or sitting there on a bleak November evening watching Reims’s utterly mundane goalless draw with Brest; the 2012/2013 campaign had it all and with some to spare. Undoubtedly, the majority of the footballing media will next season focus frustratingly on AS Monaco’s performances as they look to criticise and accuse them of ‘ruining football’. Frankly, it is an all too familiar stance that has been reiterated these past months, and Monaco have yet to kick a ball. Justly or unjustly so, Monaco will bring competition that will undeniably raise the quality of football in Ligue 1 and give the league a larger following worldwide. However, if there is one thing I want you to take away from the introduction to the Get French Football News Season Preview it is this: try and look past Monaco. Instead, observe what Philippe Montanier may achieve as he looks to revolutionise Rennes and turn them into a consistent European power; take an interest in the exceptional batch of young French talent that currently dominates Lyon’s squad; applaud the way in which Marseille have set about recruiting this summer and take heed of the way Lorient attempt to play and the exceptional example that President Loic Fery is setting in how to run a modern football club.
