Several hundred persons responded to correct or complete the infor mation on their organization. Others called attention to organizations that were unintentionally overlooked and are now gratefully included. Others called with suggestions and comments about language and categories. This publication is more complete, accurate, and richer because of each and every call. At CURA, Robyn Greene's persistence in checking and rechecking the listings, Chris McKee's and Louise Duncan's word processing expertise, and Bill Casey's computerese were all more than generously available. A special word of many thanks is due again to the members of the Advisory Committee who shaped the original directory and were unanimously supportive of producing a revised and expanded publication-Louis Alemayehu, Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs; Ed Duren; Patience Ferguson, Management Assistance Project; Valerie Lee, Metropolitan Regional Arts Council; Lou Fuller, Wayside; Pete Rode, Urban Coalition; Marilyn Vigil, Metropolitan State University; and Laura Wittstock, Migizi Communications. Any deficiencies or inaccuracies in what follows are my responsibility. Comments, sug gestions, corrections, and additions would all be welcomed. Smith, Coordinator Community Development Programs Center for Urban and Regional Affairs University of Minnesota -v- INTRODUCTION A Directory ofNonprofit Organizations of Color in Minnesota is a much expanded and more inclusive version of Nonprofit Organizations of Color in Minnesota originally published by CURA in July, 1991. The original directory was confined to larger, formally incorporated, non profit, tax exempt organizations-most of which had paid staff. It also did not include religious organizations. The current directory includes all not-for-profit associations, organizations, mutual assistance and fraternal groups. It includes religious organizations and tribal govern ments. Undoubtedly groups were missed that should have been included; we tried, however, to be as inclusive as possible given our constraints of schedule and resources. Many discussions and searches were spent on trying to find a replacement for the term "Hispanic" as referring to all peoples who share a Hispanic cultural history. We were unsuccess ful and so retained the use of the term for this directory. We hope that any future editions will have found a more broadly accepted term. The first version of this directory included a statistical summary overview. This collecti vely profiled the nonprofit organizations within each community of color that were listed in the directory. The overview contained information on various methods of board selection, staffing patterns, budget size, and so forth. Since this current version contains so many more diverse organizations for which such information is either not available and/or not appropriate, the over view was not included here. Copies of the overview from the first version are available, however, on request and free of charge. A limited number of copies of the directory are available at no charge by calling or writing the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs, 330 Humphrey Center, 30119th Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55455; 612/625-1551. -1- DIRECTORY AFRICAN AMERICAN/AFRICAN NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS 3M African American Arts Society Berean Baptist Church Bldg. 236- lB-06 3007 Lyndale Ave. N.
