Volume 29-6 A Monthly Newsletter Published by the RoadRunner Prospector’s Club June 2015 Presidents Corner June 2015 The Roadrunners have had a good spring. I was able to get out a number of times; found a little gold and hope to find more. I hope you were as fortunate. We had a very good potluck picnic and I received a lot of good feedback so I believe the Board may be disposed to do the same next year. We had a good “dig” in May and are looking forward to scheduling more digs. A lot of members found some gold. If any members have a claim or two that they rec- ommend, please contact the Board. We are open to all suggestions, but please do consider ac- cessibility. On another note, we have discussed having the Christmas BBQ in December at the Italian Club in Phoenix where we have our monthly general meetings. I brought this up to the mem- bers that were present at the May General Meeting and they voted in favor of it. This may mean we cannot do it on a Saturday in the form of a luncheon but possibly on another day or evening. If any members have any suggestions, please let the Board know, as we must make reservations early. I liked the steak fry, but we cannot do that ourselves in Maricopa County; if we try it we will get a citation and have the event shut down. I don’t like it one bit, but I must work within the laws and ordinances. We considered the claims close to Phoenix, in an adjoining county. We would really be taking a chance on both the weather and accessibility at that time of year. Some of our members are older and would have difficulty if we went that route. We will be making a decision shortly so please share your thoughts. We would try to keep the cost about the same. Next, the Board is considering another “up country” meeting this summer somewhere near Prescott. We would schedule this later in the summer in the same fashion as last year. We had a good turnout last year, so please let us have your thoughts on the matter, This would not replace the general meeting, but would be in addition to the general meting for those members that would want to attend. Lastly, it’s getting hot out there; please stay hydrated and keep on the look out for snakes. I know I say this every year, but it is to remind people that the desert can be a dangerous and unforgiving environment. Please bear that in mind and make it a good month. - Frederick Horn, President June 2015 Page 1 MONTHLY MEETINGS BOARD & OFFICE DIRECTORY General Meetings: 3rd Thursday of the month - 7:00 PM @ Arizona American Italian PRESIDENT Club 7509 North 12th St. Phoenix, AZ (No meeting in December) Fred Horn Monthly outings: Held on the weekends following the Third Thursday of the month. Yikes! For the next few seconds all I could think of is all our members out there for a backhoe dig and no backhoe. Then after a pause he said his son Joe is on his way with the backhoe. What an emotional roller coaster ride for a brief moment and a big sigh of relief. So we got the backhoe out there and assessed a nice area of reddish dirt in the mountain bank next to a small wash and the dig starts! Very nice wide trench. After a while members started to prospect and told Joe to hold tight and let's see what they get before we continue or start a second trench. Reports started coming in finding some specks here and there but not much yet. Members were anxious about a second trench so while members continued their endeavor on that trench we set off east down to a larger wash where I and other members over time have found good gold and we had Joe dig us a nice trench in the bank of the wash into the bench on the inside curve down to bedrock. Soon we saw some good pans of gold coming out of there and members streaming in so we dug another trench next to that one. With three large trenches dug so far we told Joe to stand by and see how it goes and it seemed members were very con- tent with what we had so Joe had the rest of the afternoon off until it was time to fill them in. For the most part the weather was nice but it was getting pretty warm and about 3pm all but a few had quit digging or packed up and gone so Joe did a great job of filling in those trenches and off we went. End to a successful outing and a very good turnout. – Bruce Myers June 2015 Page 3 May 2nd Backhoe Dig Pictures June 2015 Page 4 May 2nd Backhoe Dig Pictures Claims for Sale The board has decided to put the following claims up for sale.
