Reporting Without Borders

This e-magazine is part of an eTwinning project entitled “Reporting Without Borders” involving students from three European countries: , Poland and France; Romanian students from the Grupul Scolar "Dr Mihai Ciuca", Saveni, Polish students from Zespół Szkół nr 1 w Pszczynie, Pszczyna, and French students from Lycée Marguerite Yourcenar, Morangis.

From January to April 2011, the students cooperated to write an e-magazine: they got to know one another, selected some themes they were interested in, exchanged in various ways around the topics selected (and other things too!), then organized the information collected and wrote some articles together.

The goals of the project were multiple: promote intercultural education and European citizenship of course, but also encourage the practice and use of English as a foreign language through a creative and entertaining process, and foster cooperative work, team work and the effective use of collaborative tools online. It was above all an opportunity to escape school boundaries: “get out of the classroom”, cross borders and learn differently!

Enjoy!

COMMUNISM IN EUROPE WE AND OUR COMMUNITY by Ioana, Oana & Romeo by Monika, Martyna & Kasia This word communism is from French “communisme”. Communism was a social, political and economic doctrine set up on the principle of abolishing the institution of private property and promoting collective property. The beginning of the abolition movement started in 1976 with Portugal, then many countries followed, for instance, Romania abolished it in 1989, Poland in 1998, France in 1981, Spain in 1995... All these abolitions make people think about the legitimacy of the death penalty : are we able to decide that someone should not live anymore? And why could people not change? Maybe it's not so good to let justice decide such a thing? Or simply, is he/she really guilty? Are we going to kill an innocent or a criminal? All these questions join the question of the human rights, but about death penalty opinions still differ because the life of someone is something that we may not be able to judge. Movies allow them to escape from reality, it's a good way to entertain, just like music: it takes an important place in their lives. Drama, horror, romance, comedy, action and thriller are their favourite kinds of movies as they take them to another world. After interviewing our partners we learnt that Inception, The Lion King, Titanic and Piranha have a great success among teenagers. Their symbolic movies in the whole story of the world of cinema are Pirates of Caribbean and Titanic, the scene where Jack dies is a wonderful sad scene that makes them cry. Above: Johnny Depp, Eddy Murphy, Jennifer Love Successful films among teenagers: Inception, Hewitt, Jackie Chan, Chad Murray, Nicole Titanic, Piranha 3D, Lord of the Rings, Twilight, Kidman, Leonardo DiCaprio and Ashley Tisdale Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Poets Society and are their favourite actors, they find them good The Lion King actors, beautiful and funny. Musicals entertain teenagers too, High School Musical and Mama Mia for example, because you need to be brave to make that kind of movie: dancing, singing and playing a role at the same time is very hard! However we can notice a lack of interest for silent movies, which are old-fashioned and boring for the majority of our partners. A few of them think that Charlie Chaplin is immortal and that his movies are entertaining. The movies inspired from novels are not a success for them, they think that most of the time the director doesn't know well how to adapt the story, and even if the book is great, the movie doesn't represent it well. In general our Above: partners prefer reading the book before Teenagers’ favourite actors and actresses: Ashley watching the film, but some don't have enough Tisdale, Leonardo di Caprio, Jackie Chan, Jennifer patience and don’t read the novel. Love Hewitt, Chad Murray, Eddie Murphy, Nicole The teenagers we interviewed are also Kidman and Johnny Depp interested in sagas like Twilight, a story about vampires which had a lot of success in the whole world and took over in very little time. Movie festivals have a important place in the world of cinema, movies are awarded - like Le festival de Cannes in France and others in Romania and in Poland. To conclude, teenagers like to go to the cinema to see different kinds of movies, many festivals in the world are about cinema, and silent movies are immortal. Now, a lot of actors and actresses have a very good potential and the talent to make a career in cinema.

They prefer cinema, not watching movies at home - the impression is much bigger. They like watching alone. Why? Because everyone has a different ,,taste’’. Countries that answered the above and many other questions were Romania and France. Let’s see what they prefer… If we analyse types of films in detail it appears that the most popular types of movies in France are: musicals - which are about music, their favourite thing in life, horror movies - because they like being scared and it relaxes them, and also comedies- which make them laugh. Romania is a little different, because there’s only one favourite type: horror. So about the relation between films and life: according to our Romanian friends films have no connection with real life, so they cannot influence us. This TV SHOWS & TEENAGERS: A WORLDWIDE ASSOCIATION by Marion & Margaux It’s been said that TV takes the majority of a teenager’s time. DREAM AS IF YOU WILL LIVE FOREVER, LIVE AS IF YOU WILL DIE TOMORROW by Bianca & Adrian Life is the most special god-given right we have. We are grateful every day for the opportunity to be able to take a breath and watch over God's creation. But the quality of life is something each of us must work to improve. Happiness is the ultimate goal. It's what everyone is trying to achieve throughout their lives. To begin with, "dream as if you will live forever" is a statement which involves having faith. To dream means to hope, and hope is what makes the difference between being alive and feeling numb. Immortality is the single most sought-out prize in human history, the ultimate prize, the closest step to divinity man can imagine. There's a myth incorporated in every aspect of our lives, from science and medicine which works to prolong our journey into this world, to the very core of religion which promises eternal happiness in heaven's garden. Moreover, to dream as if you will live forever states that we should always look forward, never look back. Have no regrets for what has passed because the future is so much better. On the other hand, to live as if you will die tomorrow is a more realistic approach in our opinion. It leaves aside the dreams and hopes, and urges us to seize the moment because it can always be our last. Take each day one at a time and make the best of it. It is said that living "on the edge" makes one feel more alive so in a way, thinking that you could die tomorrow makes life seem longer because each day is a fight to stay alive and every sunset brings that reward. Overall, "dream as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow" is a motto we should all embrace because it encourages us to be thankful for what we have and never take life for granted. In our opinion, this motto should be considered by everyone. We believe that dreaming is the most beautiful thing possible, even if sometimes the dream is not fulfilled. Even if life is not forever, you can live every moment like the last one. We must live within the moment.

Youth: cherish life!!!!! THE MIRACLE OF REINCARNATION by Matei Truth or legend? The "myth" of reincarnation can be found in many nations. Yet, where has it come from? We only know that in 553 AD, the fifth Ecumenical Council of Constantinople anathematized reincarnation claiming that we have one life to cleanse ourselves and return to pre-sin status , removing from the Bible everything mentioning reincarnation. That did not help at all, because people started living their lives fully, just as if it was their last. With all the censorship imposed by the Ecumenical Council to the original texts, some paragraphs held references related to the reincarnation of Jesus Christ, the most famous being that of the prophet Elijah who was reincarnated in the person of John the Baptist (Bible, John 3:1 - 8, Matthew 11:14, John 9:1-3). Over time, numerous currents talk about reincarnation: Greek logic promotes Orphism, which associated the immortality of the soul with cycles of reincarnation, Hinduism speaks in the Upanishads about reincarnation, about the immortal soul and the principles guiding a self journey from body to body, which is the law of karma. Salvation meant ceasing the return to earth, and not multiplying the number of reincarnations. In the Upanishad it is said that one’s Self (atman) is identified with the Absolute (brahman) only if one’s Self breaks away from the cycle of existence (samsara), meaning the sequence of successive incarnations and that man cannot liberate himself from this cycle. In Buddhism it is said that man can release himself and enter the Nirvana. Gnosticism, the Judeo-Christian assumption that attributed to Jesus the reincarnation theory of the prophet Elijah in John the Baptist; Hebrew Cabbala also speaks about reincarnation, but so do modern philosophers. Considered a spiritual teaching, reincarnation requires the existence of a memory of the soul which includes lessons that we have to learn in every life, in order to evolve. One way to enter the abysmal memory is hypnotic regression in which we can access the contents of previous lives. An undeniable proof of the existence of reincarnation can be xenoglosia, speaking in a foreign language, unknown to the subject; there are many cases in which the subjects under hypnosis, talk and even converse in foreign languages, some of them having, in its natural state, large cultural deficiencies that make it impossible to know a foreign language, which, however, during the hypnotic regression they know to perfection. Undoubtedly xenoglosia is connected to the memory of a past life. Likewise, the states of “déjà vu”, but also some spontaneous “memories” small children have from a previous life. Reincarnation makes us ask questions and one of them would be "why know our past lives?" Students Involved
