Adventure Park Sunger MRKOPALJ TOURISM SECTOR PROJECTS Adventure Park Sunger MRKOPALJ LOCATION Project Holder The project is located in the small village of Sunger in Gorski Kotar, a wood- Obrt Bitoraj, Ivan Butković ed region of western Croatia. The village is only 2 km away from the munici- pal centre of Mrkopalj, next to a pine forest and a rock complex. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The current spatial plan envisages an adventure park as a multi-purpose sport and tourist recreational centre on an area of almost 7.75 ha, which unlike other centres will offer opportunities for skiing and sledding during the summer on an artificial surface, for which two trails of 300 m are planned. The Investment study envisages the construction of a cable car that will operate throughout the whole year. It also envisages hospitality and tourist accommoda- tion capacities – a hostel with 40 beds and 4 standard houses, for which the pro- ject documentation has already been prepared. Besides the obvious advantages of its proximity to the Adriatic coast and accessibility to the motorway, the pro- ject area is also attractive because the spatial plan envisag- es the construction of additional tourism and sport facilities on the adjacent land plots. These will include a large park- Rijeka ing lot for visitors, 10 highland holiday homes, an informa- tion centre, a swimming pool, tennis courts, a playground Sunger and restaurants with local food and beverages. ESTIMATED VALUE The first phase of the project is estimated at 3 million EUR. This phase includes the building of a hostel. The Municipality of Mrkopalj is intending to offer additional incentives to investors (partial waiving of payment - 50 % reduction in municipal contri- bution and exemption of municipal fees for a period of 5 years). It was written down in music in the 19th and 20th century (F. Ks Kuha , J. Glanc, L. Kozinovi, S. Preprek), later on also recorded, and transcribed, analysed and prepared for publication (J. Bezi, G. Doliner). The intention of this paper is to point to the link between the life of this valuable tradition and some other indicators of music practice, and, by that very fact, to the way in which traditional church singing fits into the musical needs of an environment. Although there is scant data available, it is important for understanding the circumstances under which Glagolitic singing was nurtured, and because it casts light on it as a vital and living phenomenon, and not, as is could well be regarded - - as a petrified historical stratum. Quite a lot has been written about folk music in various reviews, summaries, and specific texts about the region of Vinodol1 and Novi Vinodolski itself. Some other forms of musical activity which had their place in the social life of Novi Vinodolski in the past are also known: for example, the work of the "Narodna itaonica" [National Reading Room], one of the oldest in Croatia, founded in 1845 in Novi Vinodolski on the initiative of Father Josip Maurani (Poto njak 1958:91).
