On 7 June (D plus 1) the ship P 72 was struck by free 'floating mines 6,7 and 3 offi,cers ani 25 enlisted men were rescued by destroyers and p.lt ashore on "utah beach, Cherbourg Peninsula. .'

June On 8 June Private Peter Tamulevicz hit by flak aboard ship, small 8,9 elements of liB" Battery were put ashore and on 9 June the remainder of the 'I . 1st Echelon reached shore, the last elements arriving at about 2400. 1 'March - The 87th Armored Field Artillery Battalion in position at Esch, Germany (wF.lb16l0) attached te the 4th Cavalry Group, Mechanized, which is attached to the 3rd Armored Division, First US Army. liE" Troop, 4th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron attached to the 87th Armored FA Bn for operations. At 0830 hours Battalion less "C" Btry moved to Glesch, Germany, o~ edge of Erft Canal, cl.osed at 0930 hours, move was made under interdiction and mortar fire in town and on the roads.. Hq Btry Comdr wounded by shrapnel­ from enemy mortar round landing near cP~ "C" Btry remaining in ,Esch was able to take burden of firing from its rear position. Small preparation was fired for 4th Cay Rcn Sq. Nebe1.werfers were in quantity during day and one bomb fell near town during night. 87th Armd FA Bn attached to 4th Cay Gp, Mecz detached from 3rd Armd Div and attached to 99th Infantry' Division.
