The group focused on completing their ASDAN Leadership Award while enjoying the great outdoors the Brecon Beacons offers! Well done to all the young people that completed the training. The young people were from: Bergholt YC, Linford Wanderers, Roxwell YC & St.Joesphs YC. Clubs have been enjoying the use of our Cage football and Team Games 2018 Keystone Awards presented at the EBGC AGM sessions which is not only fun but looks at how your members work as a team Name Club Award Years Voluntary as they complete challenges!     THE ESSEX FIELD CLUB HEADQUARTERS: THE PASSMORE EDWARDS MUSEUM, ROMFORD ROAD, STRATFORD, LONDON, E15 4LZ NEWSLETTER NO. 14 August 1995 LACEWINGS AND ALLIES IN ESSEX Even non-entomologists must recognise a green lacewing when they see one. Though there are 76 British species (including four snake flies, three alder flies and four scorpion flies) we have only one which hibernates and this is the one which is frequently found lying dead on window ledges and in garden sheds during the spring. Exactly ten years ago, back in 1985, when the Passmore Edwards Museum still had a Natural History Department, I produced a set of distribution maps for lacewings and allies in the county. These showed some 34 recorded in recent years together with a further four that had been recorded donkey’s years ago but had not been seen since. At that time, the study of lacewings had, for some reason, been largely ignored by British entomologists, though our European counterparts, especially the Austrians and Hungarians, were approaching these familiar insects in a rather more thorough manner. However, things have moved on apace in the intervening decade. The Essex list now stands at a rather more impressive 46 species reported since 1979, with a further 4 not recorded since the turn of the century. North Essex and South Essex vice counties compare well, with 39 and 41 species since 1979, respectively. I am sure there are half a dozen or so more to be discovered yet! Over the same period, no less than 8 new species have been added to the formal list for the British Isles.

    South Woodham Ferrers Town Council Masterplan Site 10 – Land North of South Woodham Ferrers Policy Board (14th January 2021) Submission The Town Council welcomes the opportunity to comment on this Masterplan for this development, so far: - • We are impressed with the layout and green focus of the development and the amount of open space that is being provided. • We fully support and are pleased with the commitment from the developers to ensure the whole site is constructed to Essex Vernacular design standards, in keeping with the rest of the town. • We have noted the changes to the public transport commitments, and we are pleased that a (5 year) expansion of the 36 service, including its through journey to Broomfield Hospital, as well as enhanced links to Basildon, are now part of the Masterplan submission. We are a little disappointed that the proposals do not address the need for a more direct bus service to Maldon, especially as the submission appears to promote a bus stop at Eve’s Corner in Danbury as some major Maldon-South Woodham Ferrers-Chelmsford interchange station. The Town Council raises the following points that we believe require further clarity and understanding. • We feel the pedestrian crossing of the Burnham Road for senior school pupils still remains unsafe and we would like to see more thought and consideration for safer crossings to be examined. • We believe the new primary school should be constructed and brought into operational use as soon as possible as this will reduce crosstown car journeys, a problem already identified by the submission from Essex Highways.
