P R E S S E M I T T E I L U PRESS RELEASE He has it - Nick Skelton wins the Mercedes-Benz Championat Hamburg - "I won the Mercedes" - Nick Skelton had barely stepped out of the Mercedes convertible and grabbed his phone to spread the news of his win in the Mercedes-Benz Championat. The Hamburg spectators at the German Jumping and Dressage Derby experienced the European Championship bronze medallist and his Holstein bred gelding Carlo in best form: the quick British rider's fault free round in 46,53 seconds was enough to secure the key to the elegant Mercedes-Benz convertible. The Swiss rider Steve Guerdat finished in second place on the Holstein bred gelding Carpalo. "I'm very happy that he did such a good job. I see a lot of potential in this horse", said the Swiss Nations' Cup rider. France's Simon Delestre followed in third place with Napoli du Ry. The French national trainer recommended that his "first group" start at the German Jumping and Dressage Derby. The best German rider was fifth place finisher Ludger Beerbaum with Chiara. The four-time Olympic champion revealed his thoughts as he said, "I have Gotha and Chiara here, but as good as Chiara was today, I think I'll ride her Saturday in the Global Champions Tour competition as well". The 14,500 spectators triggered a lot of enthusiasm on the first - and somewhat cool - day of the German Jumping and Dressage Derby. They were well prepared and conquered the spectator bank and bleachers. For example in the dressage stadium. That's where the Grand Prix de Dressage was decided. The top three finishers in this international competition will be starting in the German Dressage Derby, with change of horses, on Sunday: Ex World Champion Hubertus Schmidt (GER), Aat van Essen (NED) and the defending champion Kathleen Keller (GER). Van Essen was hilarious: "I wanted to come here so I could watch the changes of horses...and now I even get to ride". The first qualification for the German Jumping Derby was won by, to date, a relatively unknown Polish rider: Oscar Murawski with Continuo.     Springreiten Springreiten ist eine Disziplin des Pferdesports, bei dem Pferd und Reiter einen aus mehreren Hindernissen bestehenden Parcours in einer festgelegten Reihenfolge überwinden. Bei den Hindernissen kann es sich um Steilsprünge, Hochweitsprünge, Geländehindernisse (Gräben, Wassergräben, Wälle, Billiards) handeln. Hindernisse können einzeln, als Distanzen oder als offene/geschlossene Kombinationen mehrerer Einzelhindernisse auftreten. Hindernisse Die Abmessungen der Hindernisse betragen normalerweise bis zu 1,60 m in der Höhe und 2 m in der Tiefe. Wassergräben dürfen maximal 4,50 m weit sein. In Einzelfällen können diese Abmessungen deutlich überschritten werden (Derby, Mächtigkeitspringen). Bei Turnieren sind je nach Klasse verschiedene Mindest- und Höchstmaße zugelassen (nach LPO2004): Animation nach Bildern von Eadweard Muybridge, die die Sprungtechnik im 19. Jahrhundert zeigt. Gewonnen hat der Reiter mit der geringsten Fehlerzahl, bei Gleichheit entscheidet die kürzere Zeit oder ein Stechen über einen verkürzten Stechparcours. Stilspringen Beim Stilspringen wird der Reiter mit einer Wertnote von 0 bis 10 beurteilt. Für Hindernissfehler (Abwürfe) gibt es 0,5 Punkte Abzug sowie 1,0 Punkte für die ersten beiden Verweigerungen, die dritte Verweigerung führt zum Ausschluss.

    FEI World Equestrian Games Stockholm (SWE), 1990 A bit of history The idea behind the World Equestrian Games (WEG) came into being in the mid-1980’s and was strongly supported, if not originally proposed, by HRH Prince Philip, the then-FEI President. The first WEG were proposed to take place in 1990 and the 1986 FEI General Assembly convening in Lisbon (POR), allocated the Games to Stockholm, although Rome was a very close runner- up. It may be that some of the voters remembered the excellent organisation of the equestrian events in Stockholm during the 1956 Olympic Games... The first WEG, Stockholm 1990 It was decided to designate Stockholm’s 1912 Olympic Stadium as the main arena for the 1990 WEG. It had, of course, undergone several reconstructions since 1912 and with the 1990 WEG in mind, the city authorities opted for a major renovation of the stadium. No equestrian competition of comparable magnitude involving all six FEI disciplines had been organised prior to 1990. Moreover, given that Stockholm had not organised equestrian events for a number of years, the Organising Committee made good use of the time leading up to the Games and held test events in one or two disciplines each year. This careful preparation certainly contributed to the great success of the Games. The successes of the 1990 WEG must also be attributed to the considerable involvement of the Swedish National Federation. The number of staff members working for the Games gradually increased and Ulf Rosengren, the Federation Secretary General, became the very successful Organising Committee Director.
