Rare Plant Surveys, Mojave National Preserve and surrounding BLM lands, Fall 2017. Botanical tech on fall-blooming rare plant surveys along a transmission line. Areas were surveyed based on summer and fall monsoonal rains, including FoShay Pass and several other uniQue habitats. Rare plant species observed included: Elymus salina, Eriodictyon angustifolium, Euphorbia parryi, Euphorbia ambramsiana, Grusonia parishii, and Senna covesii. Botanical tech on appx 1000 miles of rare plants surveys along an existing SCE transmission line through creosote scrub habitat, big sagebrush scrub and various habitats in the Owen’s Valley. Transects were walked and rare plants were recorded when observed. Vegetation assessments were also conducted and habitats mapped according to the CNPS protocol. Botanical tech on a rare plant survey team, focusing on Brodiaea filifolia, for a high-profile project in Santa Ana. No rare species were observed during Dr. Brungraber’s surveys. All rare plants observed were documented and reported, and vegetation mapping was verified during surveys. Rare plant species observed included: Funastrum utahense. Rare plant surveys, San Diego County, SDGE, Spring 2016. Botanical tech on rare plants surveys along several transmission lines in the mountains of San Diego County. All rare species were documented, and a comprehensive species list was compiled. For a list of rare plants mapped please inquire. Brodiaea filifolia surveys, Camp Pendleton, CA, 2015. Botanical tech on a team performing focused surveys for federally endangered Brodiaea filifolia in the Echo and Delta training areas of Camp Pendleton, covering appx 1000 acres. No Brodiaea filifolia were observed in the survey area, yet numerous visits to the reference populations were made. Rare plant surveys, Coastal Area, Camp Pendleton, CA, April 2015. Botanical tech, performed rare plant surveys on the beaches and dunes of coastal Camp Pendleton. Assisted in data collection for species including Suaeda taxifolia, Abronia maritima, and Calystegia soldannela. Brodiaea filifolia surveys, Camp Pendleton, CA, April 2015. Botanical tech on a large team performing rare plant surveys as part of a team covering 6000 acres of grassland and oak woodland on Tejon Ranch. All work was as a volunteer. Restoration Site Assessment and Floral inventory of Amelanchier nantucketensis study site, Nantucket, MA, 2012. Assistant botanist for assessing floral inventory and other success indicators for restoration projects using sheep as grazers to encourage growth of the rare Amelanchier nantucketensis. This work contributes to the management plan for this area, run by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation. All work was as a volunteer. Brodiaea filifolia surveys, Camp Pendleton, San Diego County, CA, 2012. Botanical tech on a team performing surveys for the federally endangered Brodiaea filifolia. Transects and data collection were performed per base regulations and reQuirements. Habitat assessments, Sunrise Powerlink, San Diego County, CA, 2012. Junior biologist, assisted with habitat assessments and comprehensive flora and fauna species lists for various areas along the Sunrise Powerlink transmission line. These assessments also included nesting bird surveys. Rare Plant Surveys; Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project, Los Angeles County, 2011. Rare plant species were encountered in the Angeles National Forest include: Quercus durata, Calochortus palmeri var. palmeri, C. plummerae, C. clavatus var. gracilis, Lilium humboldti var. ocellatum, Orobanche valida var. valida, Hulsea vestita ssp. gabrielensis, Galium johnstonii, Galium grande, Dudleya cymosa ssp. crebrifolia, Lupinus excubitus var. johnstonii, Linanthus concinnus, Lepichina fragrans, and Arctostaphylos glandulosa var. gabrielensis. Rare Plant Surveys, Tule Wind Project, San Diego County, CA 2010. Botanical tech for rare plant surveys for a potential wind farm project in Jacumba and McCain Valley. Mapped GPS locations of individuals and populations of the following rare plants: Linanthus bellus, Astragalus douglasii var. perstrictus, Geraea viscida, and Caulanthus simulans. Ocotillo Wind Project, Ocotillo, CA, 2010 and 2011. Botanical tech assisting a large team with rare plant surveys for a wind farm project site. Mapped GPS locations of individuals and populations of the following rare plants: Cylindropuntia wolfii, Cynanchum utahensis, Malperia tenuis, Mirabilis tenuiloba, and Pilostyles thurberi. Floral inventory, East African Museum, Mt. Kenya and Mt. Kilimanjaro, Kenya/Tanzania. 2010. Field assistant for the collection and documentation of over 100 species of plants growing in the alpine regions of the east Africa volcanic mountains, including a fall-flowering plant inventory which had not previously been done. Floral inventory, University of Tribhuven, Annapurna Range, Himal, Nepal. 2009. Field assistant for the collection and documentation of over 300 species of plants growing in the alpine regions of the Annapurna range. Tasks included assisting with photography, excellent field notes, computer records, and hiking over 100 miles to accomplish this task Representative Wildlife Survey Projects: Nesting bird and pre-construction surveys, Orange County, Spring 2018. Lead surveyor for nesting birds, including endangered coastal California gnatcatcher, ravens, red-tailed hawks and other potential species along an SCE access road and transmission line.
