An Introduction to Morphos
An Introduction to MorphOS Updated to include features to version 1.4.5 May 14, 2005 MorphOS 1.4 This presentation gives an overview of MorphOS and the features that are present in the MorphOS 1.4 shipping product. For a fully comprehensive list please see the "Full Features list" which can be found at: www.PegasosPPC.com Why MorphOS? Modern Operating Systems are powerful, flexible and stable tools. For the most part, if you know how to look after them, they do their job reasonably well. But, they are just tools to do a job. They've lost their spark, they're boring. A long time ago computers were fun, it is this background that MorphOS came from and this is what MorphOS is for, making computers fun again. What is MorphOS? MorphOS is a fully featured desktop Operating System for PowerPC CPUs. It is small, highly responsive and has very low hardware requirements. The overall structure of MorphOS is based on a new modern kernel called Quark and a structure divided into a series of "boxes". This system allows different OS APIs to be used along side one another but isolates them so one cannot compromise the other. To make sure there is plenty of software to begin with the majority of development to date has been based on the A- BOX. In the future the more advanced Q-Box shall be added. Compatibility The A-Box is an entire PowerPC native OS layer which includes source and binary compatibility with software for the Commodore A500 / A1200 etc. -

Another Week With Sam Seite !1 von !15 Another Week With Sam I WANT THIS BLOG TO CAPTURE MOST OF THE THINGS I LEARN AND EXPERIENCE ON THE MACHINE AND ON RELATED TOPICS (SUCH AS MY CLASSIC HW). THE TONE SHOULD REMAIN PERSONAL AND I PLAN ON UPDATING AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. POSTED 07-10-2009 AT 11:18 PM BY LSMART UPDATED 07-12-2009 AT 03:53 PM BY LSMART (UPDATE - JOYSTICK WORKS - BUT NEEDS CALIBRATION) The curtains are still drawn on a quiet Saturday morning. I am sitting in front of my »new Amiga«. It is a Sam440ep-Flex that I bought a few months ago. Behind my back my wife and the dog are still sleeping - wait - well at least she is snoozing. There is a lot to tell about my past experiences with Sam, UAE and Aros. And in fact I have told some of it - in german on my homepage. I think I might mention parts of it when there is a current theme that relates to my earlier posts. Yesterday I downloaded Vice from OS4depot and I am planning on transferring my Geos-Disks to Sam. I just hope I can find the cable. Vice seems to run really well on that little machine. I haven’t found out how to tell it to calibrate the joystick. I won’t play on the keyboard while a USB- Competition-Pro is resting on my desk. I have very fond memories of the classic Competition-Pro. I want this blog to capture most of the things I learn and experience on the machine and on related topics (such as my classic HW). -

A History of the Amiga by Jeremy Reimer
A history of the Amiga By Jeremy Reimer 1 part 1: Genesis 3 part 2: The birth of Amiga 13 part 3: The first prototype 19 part 4: Enter Commodore 27 part 5: Postlaunch blues 39 part 6: Stopping the bleeding 48 part 7: Game on! 60 Shadow of the 16-bit Beast 71 2 A history of the Amiga, part 1: Genesis By Jeremy Reimer Prologue: the last day April 24, 1994 The flag was flying at half-mast when Dave Haynie drove up to the headquarters of Commodore International for what would be the last time. Dave had worked for Commodore at its West Chester, Pennsylvania, headquarters for eleven years as a hardware engineer. His job was to work on advanced products, like the revolutionary AAA chipset that would have again made the Amiga computer the fastest and most powerful multimedia machine available. But AAA, like most of the projects underway at Commodore, had been canceled in a series of cost-cutting measures, the most recent of which had reduced the staff of over one thousand people at the factory to less than thirty. "Bringing your camera on the last day, eh Dave?" the receptionist asked in a resigned voice."Yeah, well, they can't yell at me for spreading secrets any more, can they?" he replied. Dave took his camera on a tour of the factory, his low voice echoing through the empty hallways. "I just thought about it this morning," he said, referring to his idea to film the last moments of the company for which he had given so much of his life.
