July 23, 2021 Dear AAJ Alumnae and Friends, We have included an important update for you this morning on recent developments resulting from many weeks of conversations and research. These include confirmation of Always A Judson, Inc., as a tax exempt organization, important progress updates and a copy of ‘The Case for the Next Judson’. I. Our 501(C)3 is official! a. We received the letter from the IRS this week and can now seek participation in programs such as AmazonSmile and other charitable programs that many of you have been asking about! We will keep you posted on those developments. b. Now is the time to confirm your AAJ Membership, provide a 1x time donation or set-up your monthly contributions. AlwaysAJudson.org c. Alumna Julie J. Short will be compiling our financial records and posting this information on our website for your convenience. II. Progress Update: Your AAJ Leadership has been in communication with: a. Judson’s new college president, Daphne R. Robinson ’88: Answers to your key questions: She confirmed that there aren’t any offers to purchase JC at this time. SACS obligations have been fulfilled except for minor paperwork involving student responses. Samford has formally declined to accept JC records though now digitized and discussing opportunity with University of Mobile currently. If not, the state will store our records. Judson College, Inc., remains intact until debt is resolved. b. Dr. Andrew Westmoreland: (Recently retired Samford University President) We sought his counsel on a path forward and the significant challenges ahead. We are very grateful for his appreciation and love for our Judson College and her importance as a women’s higher education institution. c. Alabama State Baptist Leadership has confirmed that the denomination has concluded its major role in support of Judson College for future years. d. Representation from the Alabama House Ways and Means Education Committee: Continuing pursuit of any opportunity to receive financial support other than standard budgeted items available to college students. Researching any serious interest of other competing state colleges/universities. e. Community, Governmental and Professional Leadership in Perry County and surrounding areas. Gaining a reliable understanding of their level of support and interest in a viable women’s college while exploring an opportunity to influence a pertinent curriculum benefitting the surrounding communities. III. ‘The Case for the Next Judson’ We have attached the document for your perusal. It is also available on our website. Thank you for your continued interest in working together! Respectfully, AAJ Board of Directors .
