Aiming to characterize the structure of the arboreal community in a riverine forest remnant of the Taquari river, State of Rio Grande do Sul, 42 sampling units of 100 m2 (10 × 10 m) were located. Phytosociological parameters were also assessed and the indexes of Shannon diversity (H’) and Pielou evenness (J) were evaluated. A total of 39 species, 21 families, 2.83 nats ind-1 for H’ and 0.77 for J were recorded. Among the species found, the endemic Callisthene inundata O.L. Bueno, A.D. Nilson & R.G. Magalh. and Picrasma crenata (Vell.) Engl. are included in the list of endangered species. The density found was of 1,557.14 ind ha-1. Luehea divaricata Mart. and Lonchocarpus nitidus Benth. showed the highest indexes of importance values. Besides contributing to the knowledge of species distribution and community structure, this study points out the need for conservation of existing native forest remnants. Com o objetivo de caracterizar a estrutura da comunidade arbórea de um remanescente de fl oresta ribeirinha do rio Taquari, foram estabelecidas 42 unidades amostrais de 100 m2 (10 × 10 m) e calculados os parâmetros fi tossocioló- gicos e índices de diversidade de Shannon (H’) e Equabilidade de Pielou (J). Foram amostradas 39 espécies, 21 famílias, 2,83 para H’ e 0,77 para J. Dentre as espécies Callisthene inundata O.L. Bueno, A.D. Nilson & R.G. Magalh. é endêmica, estando, junto com Picrasma crenata (Vell.) Engl., na lista das espécies ameaçadas de extinção. A densidade encontrada foi de 1.557,14 ind. ha-1. Luehea divaricata Mart. e Lonchocarpus nitidus Benth. apresentaram os maiores índices de valores de importância. Além de contribuir para o conhecimento da distribuição das espécies e estrutura da comunidade, este estudo alerta para a necessidade de conservação dos remanescentes fl orestais nativos existentes. The objective was to evaluate the floristic composition and the successional stage through the ecological groups, the Shannon diversity index (H') and the dispersal syndromes of species, also using the H' and the McGinnies index (IGA) to determine the pattern of spatial distribution of species. 14 transects were installed, each with 1,000 m2, considering all trees with Diameter at Breast Hight (DBH) ≤ 4.0 cm. In total, 2,125 individuals were sampled, belonging to 113 species and 34 families. Myrtaceae and Fabaceae were the families with the highest species richness, with 14.2% and 11.5%, respectively. Euphorbiaceae and Lauraceae added approximately 25% of the individuals. The most abundant species were Actiniostemon concolor (Spreng.) Müll.

Gedoz *** Resumo : Este estudo identifica as linhas gerais do processo de desenvolvimento socioeconômico da região do Vale do Taquari, no período de 1822 até 1930. O trabalho de pesquisa que fundamenta esse artigo baseou-se principalmente em fontes secundárias e trabalhos de historiadores locais. Buscamos descrever de maneira ordenada o processo de ocupação do território dessa região pelos primeiros povoadores e a posterior introdução da “colonização” (assentamento de pequenos proprietários rurais) e seus desdobramentos sócio-econômicos. Nesse processo, inserem-se a mercantilização da terra, a criação de novos municípios e integração do Vale do Taquari ao mercado regional. Introdução Nesse estudo, identificamos as linhas gerais do processo de desenvolvimento socioeconômico da região do Vale do Taquari, 1 no período de 1822 até 1930. O trabalho de pesquisa que fundamenta esse artigo baseou-se principalmente em fontes secundárias e trabalhos de historiadores locais. Buscamos sistematizar episódios históricos já conhecidos e apresentar sua interpretação desde um ponto de vista socioeconômico. Thus, more advanced methods of productive and organizational development are necessary, such as the institutionalization of Local Productive Systems. Our study sought to identify and characterize the industrial settlement of the Alto Vale Taquari. The mechanisms adopted to identify the Local Productive Arrangements (LPA) were based on the evaluation of the data of the Annual Social Information Report, on-site verification of the existence of industries and indicators of industrial agglomeration. We identified 33 mate industries, in 5 municipalities. The industrial agglomerate was characterized as a Local Development Vector. Therefore, we observed a need to implement actions that promote the structuring of the agglomerate, especially regarding the institutionalization of governance. The Atlantic Forest Southeast Reserves contain the best and largest remaining examples of Atlantic forest in the Southeast region of Brazil. The 25 protected areas that make up the site display the biological richness and evolutionary history of the few remaining areas of Atlantic forest of Southeast Brazil. The area is also exceptionally diverse with high numbers of rare and endemic species. With its "mountains to the sea" attitudinal gradient, its estuary, wild rivers, karst and numerous waterfalls, the site also has exceptional scenic values. The Committee decided to inscribe the site under natural criteria (ii), (iii) and (iv). It also recommended that the State Party should be encouraged to restore natural conditions in the Serra do Mar State Park, which potentially could be incorporated in the site. The Delegate of Morocco noted the values of the site but highlighted the challenges of the management of serial sites. The Delegate of Australia noted that management in serial sites is complex but can be done with careful strategic planning and an appropriate legal framework. BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS The Atlantic Forest Southeast Reserves in the states of Parana and Sao Paolo, contain some of the best and largest examples of Atlantic forest in Brazil.

Aceito em 24/04/2012 RESUMO (Flora lenhosa do Uruguai: inventário e implicação na região Pampeana). Contar com um conhecimento adequado da flora é fundamental para o desenvolvimento de investigação em diversos campos disciplinares. Neste contexto, nosso trabalho surge da necessidade de atualizar e melhorar a informação disponível sobre a flora lenhosa nativa do Uruguai. Nossos objetivos são determinar objetivamente a flora lenhosa uruguaia (arbustos e árvores), avaliar a completude do inventário e explorar sua similaridade com regiões vizinhas. Ao analisar a flora do Uruguai, produzi- mos definições operacionais de arbustos e árvores e obtivemos uma lista de 313 espécies (57 famílias, 124 gêneros). Usando 7.418 registros de distribuição, geramos curvas acumulativas de riqueza de espécies para estimar o potencial máximo de riqueza de espécies em escala nacional e local. Concluímos que a completude a nível nacional é elevado (89-95%), mas em escala local é menor e bastante heterogêneo. Existem ainda grandes áreas sem dados ou com pouca informação. Encontramos que as espécies arbóreas do Uruguai, comparativamente, apresentam similaridade elevada com a Província de Entre Rios (Argentina), média com a Província de Buenos Aires (Argentina) e baixa com o Rio Grande do Sul (Brasil). Conclui-se que a riqueza de árvores e arbustos da flora uruguaia é maior do que a esperada para uma região de pradarias, e as diferenças encontradas nos indíces de similaridade com as floras lenhosas vizinhas estimulam estudos futuros para reavaliar o esquema fitogeográfico da região.
