Kurt Swauger & Martha Wells AAPD 2020 Local Arrangements Chairs Welcome to AAPD 2020 in Nashville! Welcome to AAPD 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee! Music City USA is the center for country music, singers, and songwriters from all over the world. The Ryman Auditorium was built in 1892 as the largest auditorium south of the Ohio River. It is known as the Mother Church of country music. The Grand Ole Opry is an American icon, the longest-running radio show in America, and has helped launch the careers of countless country musicians. Nashville isn’t just country music; music of all types can be found here. It is the home of the Nashville Predators and the Tennessee Titans. Nashville is a vibrant, growing city, breaking out with new businesses, delivering a dynamic food and cocktail scene, and hosting stunning outdoor scenery. However, music is the common thread that is woven into Nashville’s social fabric. The bright lights of Broadway are a reminder that this is the place where music is written, recorded, and performed 365 days a year. AAPD 2020 will take place at the Music City Center located in downtown Nashville. It is surrounded by numerous hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Tour the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Ryman Auditorium to experience the evolution of one of the fastest growing and most influential genres of music. Nashville also boasts the museums of the country legends: Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and George Jones. For fresh air, enjoy the beauty of outdoor Nashville at Centennial Park, where verdant greens attract wildlife around a gorgeous lake with waterside paths all against the backdrop of a full-scale replica of the Greek Parthenon. Take an afternoon stroll through Hillsboro Village or East Nashville to check out local shops, restaurants, and cafes. Explore Green Hills for the city’s most popular retailers. Go antiquing in the charming historic downtown Franklin. For the history buffs, explore the Carter house to find out about a decisive battle in the Civil War. The Welcome Reception will be held at multiple venues centering on 2nd Avenue. The Wildhorse Saloon will offer live music, line danc- ing, and Southern cuisine. Experience George Jones’ legacy at the George Jones Museum, and see his memorabilia up close and personal, immersing yourself in his powerful story. To the east, you can find Riverfront Park with fun for the whole family. On behalf of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Local Arrangements Committee, we would like to welcome you to Nashville for the 73rd Annual Session. The Scientific Program Committee has been tireless in organizing a program and line-up of speakers that brings contemporary topics to the forefront. We are certain that you and your staff will find the topics appealing: trauma management, behavior guidance, interceptive orthodontics, minimally invasive caries management, and more! We would like to thank John Rutkauskas and the AAPD staff of Kristi Casale, Colleen Bingle, Caroline Oliva and Kelly Stancato for their hard work in helping to plan the wonderful venues for the program. Mark your calendars and please join us at AAPD 2020 in Nashville, May 21-24. The Honorable Mitch McConnell The Honorable Nancy Pelosi Majority Leader Speaker of the House of Representatives United States Senate United States House of Representatives Washington, DC 20510 Washington, DC 20510 The Honorable Charles Schumer The Honorable Kevin McCarthy Minority Leader Minority Leader United States Senate United States House of Representatives Washington, DC 20510 Washington, DC 20510 March 20, 2020 Dear Leader McConnell, Leader Schumer, Speaker Pelosi, and Leader McCarthy: We are America’s travel industry, an economic sector that directly employs 9 million American workers and supports a total of 15.8 million jobs. The travel and tourism industry—including but not limited to transportation, lodging, recreation and entertainment, food and beverage, meetings, conferences and business events, travel advisors, destination marketers—is comprised of businesses of all sizes, but the vast majority, 83%, are small businesses. Together we are grappling with the immediate and devastating impact of the current health crisis. Furloughs of American travel workers are happening right now. Travel to and within the United States has essentially ground to a stop due to the actions needed to halt the spread of coronavirus. Aggressive financial relief is needed immediately. Taking care of our employees will always be our top priority, but the hard fact is we cannot continue supporting them through this disaster without relief. To that end, we greatly appreciate and strongly support provisions in the ‘‘Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act’’ that provide: • $300 billion for enhanced Small Business Administration (SBA) loans distributed through an expedited process and can be partially forgiven for employee retention; and • Tax relief to mitigate economic losses, including deferral of tax liability, extension of the Net Operating Loss deduction, and delay of estimated tax payments.
