We’re not just purchasing equipment or funding programs: together we’re truly helping people and changing lives. 7 8:20 a.m. The doctor will see you now. At TMC, providing the best patient care means treating the whole person, not just a disease. It means not only finding the best treatment plan for each patient, but also working to discover why he or she is sick. And it means looking at the long- term effects of treatment, and taking every possible precaution and providing every opportunity to ensure each patient enjoys the best quality of life. Hematologist Sheshadri Madusudhana, M.D., cares for a patient at TMC Hospital Hill. Picture this: TMC in-patient care and specialty clinics rely on state-of-the-art imagery With 24/7 care, TMC’s high volume of patients requires up-to-date, accurate, and reliable medical imaging to support inpatient and ambulatory patients. As Kansas City’s downtown hospital, TMC admits over 19,000 patients and handles more than 329,000 medical outpatient visits per year. Between two departments, Radiology Services and the Orthopaedics Clinic, more than 30,000 outpatient and inpatient x-rays are provided at TMC Hospital Hill. Generous donor funding helps TMC replace and update medical imaging equipment to ensure state-of-the-art care. GENEROUS DONOR FUNDING this year provided vital replacements and enhancements to TMC’s radiology systems. 8 9:38 a.m. “No se preocupe, usted va a estar bien.” “Don’t worry, you’re going to be fine.” The Level I Trauma team at TMC Hospital Hill. All hands on deck: The Level I Trauma team at Truman Medical Center Hospital Hill tends to more than 101,000 patient visits each year. Dr. Douglas Geehan, a board certified trauma surgeon at TMC Hospital Hill knows first-hand the significance of an accessible Level I Trauma Center in the heart of the community. “This is one of the busiest ER’s in the city,” states Dr. Geehan. Quality benchmarks ensure TMC is doing the best job possible in caring for our injured. That brings a measure of comfort to residents in neighboring Hospital Hill areas, but also peace of mind to anyone who happens to be within the TMC vicinity when a critical injury occurs. Physicians in specialties ranging from neurosurgery to OB/GYN are on standby, and nursing teams are ready in the operating room and critical care unit as well. “Our community is fortunate to have Truman’s team of exceptional trauma physicians and nurses,” said Dr. Geehan. LEGACY OF CARING TMC provides the highest quality of care with less revenue than other hospital systems in the Kansas City area. With generous community support, TMC’s legacy of caring continues, in providing state-of-the-art, essential care 9 through innovative ideas and a commitment to excellence. 10:25 a.m. “For as long as I have life, I will live with hope.” Hope: always, everywhere, and close to home. The Truman hospital system is critically important to low-income and underserved patients who generally present themselves for cancer treatment at later stages. An essential component of our vision is to ensure that patients have access to the newest and most effective therapies. As a partner in joint research initiatives through the Midwest Cancer Alliance (MCA), TMC is actively engaged in the discovery process, collaborating with the University of Kansas Cancer Center to provide important access to distinctive patient populations. This helps the Alliance conduct clinical trials that improve cancer research and care throughout the region. Pharmacist Stephen Smith prepares medications at the on-site pharmacy in the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Center at TMC. 10 The on-site Appearance Center offers patients a selection of new wigs, prostheses, and lymphedema garments. Generously funded by ArtBra KC, the items renew hope and dignity in patients coping with the effects of cancer. Patient navigator Tina Shropshire assists patients in the Appearance Center. The Center, funded 100% by donor contributions, features an array of patient-centered amenities that encircle our patients in care. Features include an on-site pharmacy, nutrition café, a research library, and wig and prostheses boutique. Triple the size of the former facility, patients see their doctors, consult with nurse navigators, and receive chemotherapy and other infusion medications, all with their loved ones close by. 11 11:00 a.m. New parts.
