ABSTRACT In this quantitative study of locational and social dispersal at the individual level, we show that bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops sp.) continued to use their na- tal home ranges well into adulthood. Despite substantial home range overlap, mother–offspring associations decreased after weaning, particularly for sons. These data provide strong evidence for bisexual locational philopatry and mother–son avoidance in bottlenose dolphins. While bisexual locational philopatry offers the benefits of familiar social networks and foraging habitats, the costs of philopatry may be mitigated by reduced mother–offspring association, in which the risk of mother–daughter resource competition and mother–son mating is reduced. Our study highlights the advantages of high fission–fusion dynamics and longitudinal studies, and emphasizes the need for clarity when describing dispersal in this and other species. The infuence of Allee efects on the existence and persistence of positive steady states as well as global bifurcation diagrams is presented. The method of sub-super solutions is used for analyzing equations. The stability condi- tions and the region of positive solutions (multiple solutions may exist) are presented. When the difusion is absent, we consider the model with and without harvesting, which are initial value problems (IVPs) and study the local stability analysis and present bifurcation analysis. -

India Abstract: Ants are dominant insects and highly developed social animal. They are widely distributed throughout the world. Currently there are 28 subfamilies and 408 genera. (Bolton et.al, 2007) The species Messor himalayanus Forel belongs to the subfamily Myrmicinae of family Formicidae. The present study was carried out in three places of Kollam district viz. Kuriottumala, Punalur and Yeroor. The ecology of this species ie; nesting pattern, habit, habitat, food preferences, active involvement in day timings and colonial behavior are observed. The species Messor himalayanus Forel resdescribed, compared with other species of Messor and similarities and dissimilarities are also provided. Currently there are only two species of Messor reported from India and only one from South India and the species Messor himalayanus Forel adds a new report to South India. Keywords: Messor himalayanus, Myrmicinae, New report, Resdescription, South India. I. Introduction The genus Messor was established by Forel in 1890 as subgenus of Aphaenogaster . In 1892d Emery synonimised as Cratomyrmex based on the type-species Cratomyrmex regalis by monotypy, 1895 as subgenus of Stenamma . In 1903 Bingham raised Messor as genus based on the type species Formica Barbara, , in 1917 Veromessor by Forel as subgenus of Novomessor. The genus Veromessor was recently synonymised with Messor (Bolton, 1982). -

In interactions with live animals the 35 behaviour of robots can be standardised, morphology and behaviour can be decoupled (so that 36 different morphologies and behavioural strategies can be combined), behaviour can be 37 manipulated in complex interaction sequences and models of behaviour can be embodied by 38 the robot and thereby be tested. Furthermore, robots can be used as demonstrators in 39 experiments on social learning. The opportunities that robots create for new experimental 40 approaches have far-reaching consequences for research in fields such as mate choice, 41 cooperation, social learning, personality studies and collective behaviour. -

Am. 108(2): 201–210 (2015); DOI: 10.1093/aesa/sau013 ABSTRACT The ant genus Aphaenogaster Mayr is an ecologically diverse group that is common throughout much of North America. Aphaenogaster has a complicated taxonomic history due to variabil- ity of taxonomic characters. Novomessor Emery was previously synonymized with Aphaenogaster, which was justified by the partial mesonotal suture observed in Aphaenogaster ensifera Forel. Previous studies using Bayesian phylogenies with molecular data suggest Aphaenogaster is polyphyletic. Convergent evolution and retention of ancestral similarities are two major factors contributing to nonmonophyly of Aphaenogaster. Based on 42 multistate morphological characters and five genes, we found Novomessor more closely related to Veromessor Forel and that this clade is sister to Aphaenogaster. Our results confirm the validity of Novomessor stat. r. as a separate genus, and it is resurrected based on the combi- nation of new DNA, morphological, behavioral, and ecological data. Gelder2 1 Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, Rooseveltov trg 6, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia 2 Department of Science and Math, University of Maine at Presque Isle, 181 Maine Street, Maine 04769, USA There is very little information on the genus Branchiobdella and the species relationships with their freshwater crayfish hosts in Croatia. Therefore, a base-line study was needed so that future changes in available habitat brought about by urban development and the probable introduction of non-native species can be accurately assessed. This investigation used preserved freshwater crayfish collected from across Croatia between 1995 and 2005 as its source of the ectosymbionts. Crayfish species included Astacus astacus, A. leptodactylus, Austropotamobius pallipes, A. torrentium, and the allochtonous North American species, Orconectes limosus. Only native European species of branchiobdellids were found: Branchiobdella astaci, B. parasita, B. pentodonta, B. hexodonta, B. italica, and B. balcanica, and this is the first report on the occurrence of these species, apart from B. italica, in Croatia. The distribution of these branchiobdellidans is compared with climatic and river drainage systems, and literature reports of populations in other countries in the region. Thus, inclusion of biological control agents is being explored as part of the IPM program. There are two species of larval parasitoids of Drosophila spp. currently registered in Mexico: Leptopilina boulardi (Barbotin, Carton et Keiner-Pillault) (Hymenoptera Figitidae) and Ganaspis brasiliensis (Ihering) (Hymenoptera Figitidae), but the response of D. suzukii against the attack of these parasitoids is unknown. The objective of this study was to determine if Mexican populations of L. boulardi and G. brasiliensis could parasitize and complete their development on D. suzukii; as well as determining if there is a preference to parasite either D. suzukii or Drosophila melanogaster Meigen. In laboratory tests, both species succeeded in parasitizing D. suzukii, and even though the larvae did not complete their development, they killed the host. Additionally, in choice test, both species had a 2:1 ratio of preference for using D. melanogaster as a host rather than D. suzukii. Although neither of the parasitoids complete their development on D.
